Everybody is talking about turnovers and HH, but what about the kicker. He doesn’t seem to be reliable from more than 30 yards out. Given how games tend to be within one possession in the BIG West Division, seems invaluable to have a reliable kicker.

I wonder if it’s a mental block like Connor Culp?

His one miss Friday was a bobbled snap and iffy hold. He’ll be fine. Going to be money.

He had a really good game in the State Championship

He's getting better

lots of the "year 1" people are demanding an awful lot of perfection from our young players getting their first taste in the big leagues

the more experience our best players get, the better they're going to be down the road

this is the most excited I've been about an NU team since Suh was here

hope EJ gets a ton of run against NW

The holder did a great job of placing the ball, that shouldn't be used as an excuse.

But, since he'll be fine that's great.
What about me? Will I be fine if we lose these meatball games because of missed field goals?

The holder got the ball down but the laces were wrong and the ball wasn’t quite right. No doubt Alvano seeing what was going on screwed with his kick.

Culp suffered from a hip flexor...common, yet bad, ailment for a kicker

100% placekicking is all about timing. If the timing is off at all, it can affect the kick. The great ones may be able to adjust on the fly, I don’t know, but, since the holder did a great job, well, that’s great.

He’s young and talented. He’s struggling right now, but will be amazing before he’s done.

In his presser Rhule said it was the snap/placement and not the kick.

LOTS of kickers get worse at Nebraska lately for whatever reason. It used to be the complete opposite.

Anyone remember the kid from Ord a few years ago that could kick everything out of the endzone with space to spare? All of a sudden Nebraska got a hold of him and he couldn’t reach the end zone.

He's a frosh that was thrown in the fire and it seems like Rhule is going to let him cook till till he is ready for prime time.

I would have sat him before last Saturday's game, assumed most of the prior misses were good holds, etc.

I get so freaking tired of the "fragile-psyche Kickers and QB's" position taken by so many coaches.

In high school I played on a team with an underperforming QB, and to work hard moving down the field and coming away with zero points because your QB can't pass or your kicker can't hit a FG is very deflating.

No idea what happened to him. You can see the leg is there, and was rock solid in HS. Sometimes these outside coaches **** with these kids. Needs to go back to whatever his natural boot was at OWS

People are frustrated because the AD has asked for patience for a lot of years. People continue to support and spend money and need to see some results, it's not an unreasonable position.

Yep. See: our defense the second half of the CU game.

I agree it's not unreasonable

which is why it's so funny that when we finally start seeing the results we've been desperate for many demand for something different

Stockholm Syndrome but with losing

Pretty sure that kid had an injury.

Looked good WHAT, isn't he like 3-7 on FG's. sorry but that's not good. Sure he might be good eventually but he most certainly hasn't been good this year and his kicks haven't looked struck solid to me.

Friday night he looked good other than the one with the bobbled snap

Define "struck solid". The attempt he hit the upright on against CO was from 45 yards out & would have been good from at least 55 yards as high up on the upright that it hit. To me, that was "struck solid". His aim was a little off on that one but aim has nothing to do with "striking it solid". His 1st two attempts against IL appeared to me to be "struck solid".

Opinion? I think he's a young kicker that has had some early struggles but might be an all-american in two years. Stick with the development.

My opinion is you have two scholarship kickers and if one is having trouble you go with the next man up. Kicker should be no different than any other position as far as having to earn the right to start each week.

My opinion is if you have two scholarship kickers you send one packing and put the scholarship to better use

I remember the laces being in and it seemed like the ball was held at a bizarre angle, not really gonna blame Alvano for that.

I also remember Josh Brown struggling at times between 2000 and 2001, and then turning it on in an otherwise ugly 2002 season, working his way to a decent NFL career.
