If we are going to hire one of the premier coaches in the country, then we are going to have to pay him a premier salary. This is Nebraska. This is as good as it gets and I think if we are going to get as good as it gets then we are going to have to compensate with that.
I don't know if just throwing money at a coach is the answer. Frost got a pretty sweet deal to come to the Huskers. Jimbo Fisher and Mel Tucker come to mind. Are they worth their contracts? Jimbo is a great recruiter and maybe the most media friendly coach in football. However, He can't coach his team out of a paper bag. Aggie fans will gladly give us Jimbo. I think Tucker has finally stayed at one place long enough to show the world how good of coach he is, average. I am betting he doesn't elevate MSU to a perennial Top 25 team.
Throwing money at the wrong coach(Jimbo or Tucker) is not the answer. If you have a shot at Urban you throw the kitchen sink. After that its fair market price in each individual case.
Yep, outside of Urban, I don't see any candidates worth throwing the kitchen sink / opening up the checkbook / backing up the brinks trucks / whatever for.
