What about Ryan Walters? He was a very good DC at Illinois and Missouri and he knows the B10.

Schiano has a pattern of rehiring former RU coaches.
Robb Smith was at RU a lot and is an "analyst" at PSU

Hard to see that happening. Smith was brought in when the Dolphins got Campanile. He was then replaced by Harasymiack and the d clearly took a jump up. To go back to Smith now optically wouldn't be great.

I don't know these guys well enough to say much - but I though bringing back KC was a reach too. I don't know how many ex-Rutgers defensive coaches are out there but I could see a retread. GS prefers the devils he knows.

Whoever gets the DC spot will have a lot of quality freshmen talent to work with.

2025 with its brutal schedule and our losses on the Defense side of the ball will make the new DC’s job very daunting. The foundation is there with the recruits coming in to make 2026 and beyond highly successful for the new DC.

I would consider bill bellichick (not Steve) or saban if either wanted to get back into coaching as DC.
Spags if he ever wanted to come back to Jersey and he did work with Flaherty before.
I consider all 3 of those to be home run hires

To be fair, not one of those three is realistic for Rutgers.

Bill isn't going anywhere that doesn't make him HC and despite the report, I don't see him coaching in college.
Saban is retired and enjoying it and if he ever came back it would be as a HC.
Spags hasn't coached in college since 1997, not only is he one the NFL's best, but there like negative chance of him ever going back to college.

But would Spags want to coach the Chiefs all playoffs and potentially win a 3rd straight Super Bowl??

If he won’t come immediately then we should disqualify him immediately…….

True . Probably should disqualify Saban too if he insists staying at ESPN through the entire CFP

The only way there is a shot with BB is if wants something a little less stressful than a HC job but still be involved with the game. He and Schiano got along well both when Steve playing lacrosse AND football at Rutgers.

They’re up to 12 coaches and 15 gm candidates that they’ve interviewed. Nothing a narrow, precision search
That’s not just the Jets. I don’t follow the NFL anymore but do follow CFB media and some NFL media when there’s an intersection of news. It seems just about all the teams with openings interview every Tom Dick and Harry out there.

You can't say the schedule is brutal when we have no clear idea of what teams are bring to the table for next year. Other then the name on the front of the Jersey that's about it.

?????
Replacing Michigan St., UCLA, and Nebraska with Oregon, OSU, and Penn St is not more difficult? 3 teams from the Playoffs.
And playing an improved Washington team on the road and on the road at Illinois. Add in Iowa who has won 6 B1G games last season and won 10 games overall in 2023.
Disagree with you. Next year’s schedule is brutal.

Just because the name on the Jersey has history doesn't mean that team will be great the next year. It's all about matchups such who's returning, the coaching staff, personnel, etc. Penn State will not be as strong as last year with some key transfers, but I doubt anyone considers that when judging that team. I'll give you another example: Michigan was the defending national champs and a top 10 preseason pick. They were never close to being that good. In fact, some average teams took them to the mat. Hell, the year the they won it we took them to the mat. We had no offense then. We have to get away from that narrative of this team is great because they have history.

the schiano tree is amazing
now Greg needs to grow a new branch for that tree and hire a DC so successful he's too good for the Jets .

Now the question I ask for TKR members:
anyone know who Greg is looking at, or rumored to be candidates ???

Saban’s VRBO commercial is funny. Maybe a media career next like the Manning brothers.

Michigan lost their HC and Coaching Staff and that had a lot to do with it.
I think Penn State will actually be as good or better. The following passed up the NFL draft and are returning: RB Singleton, RB Allen, QB Drew Allar, DE Sutton, DR Durant, Center Dawkins, etc.
Also picked up a total Safety in Portal : Mack from Alabama.

Our Offense should be as good or better if RB’s Raymond and Campbell are as good as we think and the OL needs to stay healthy. The Defense is TBD. The Transfer portal has brought in talented DL. LBs must stay healthy and the Secondary has to rebound in 2025.. as you know.

And this is what I'm talking about. We won't know much about teams until we get closer to the start of the season. Right now, it more of a guessing game at this time of the year. They're too many variables to guarantee team X is going to beat team Y because of last year's results.
