The Abner’s blimp and the Rick’s Furniture recliner free throw shoot at the Hump. Also the Dawg House at the Union with the big screen box tv on your left as you entered from the Perry side.

The recliner Im sitting in right now came from winning the halftime shoot(layup, free throw, and 3 pt...had plenty of time to spare). It was the game we clinched the sec west championship against LSU..2003-2004 season

I laughed.

What about the old alumni center with the big screen TV in it? I sat in there and watched Eli Manning's Rebels beat Alabama while we were evacuated from the stadium (the Troy State tornado game). Well, I watched as much of it as I could in between the wall to wall severe weather coverage from WCBI.

That was a horrible day.

That's amazing. Even more amazing is a 17 year old recliner. Are you sitting on a pile of hardware and splinters? Need the brand sir.

I remember all of these.

I was actually a 3 point contestant one time over Thanksgiving weekend my sophomore year. My roommate signed me and his fiancee up. We both got selected. I made 3 and my opponent hit one just at the end to win that round.
It was so cool, but I hadn't been planning on coming back until Sunday. Had to get back by Saturday around noon or so.

I also went bowling a few times on the bottom level of the Union. Only a few times.

Off campus, I saw one movie in the old white building close to where Chick Fil A is now. One. Realized how much it sucked and never went again until the "New" movie theater opened. I also watched us play in the SEC tournament ( in 1996) at Toby Nash's in front of the hotel that was around at that place. So much fun.

My freshman year roommate was an avid bowler. He had to teach me how to correctly keep score, because even in 1997, that place had paper scorecards.

Some of you will laugh, but that original Chinese place in the Union got a lot of my meal plan $. I thought it was great, as well as all you could eat dinner at the Perry Cafeteria (when MSU ran it).

Abner's blimp? You youngin. The National Bank of Commerce balloon was where it was at!

perry’s....we discovered very quickly whatever you stack on top of a bed of lettuce counts as a “salad”. 5 course meal on top of a salad.

My freshman year, Burger King switched from Pepsi to Coke and gave away a free 2-liter with every meal purchased. My roommate and I destroyed that lil' log cabin BK the first semester (but not in the way that horshack smelled).

Damn, these type threads

Make me kick myself for ever graduating.

I know the new Union is nicer and more functional, but that old food court was the best. Those dudes running the subway were professionals. I swear they would look 10 deep in the line and know what everyone wanted, the sub was half made before you ordered. Fastest subway ever. That Chinese food was on point. Chick-fil-A was always good. Wendy’s would give me get whatever was leftover when I showed up 1 minute after it closed. That went on until the manager caught on. I regret arriving after the bowling alley closed.

Bringing back some memories. Not all of them good like when my truck died in the middle of malfunction junction at 7:45 one morning.

Then there was the night my roommate and I wanted to see just how many levels were in the stacks at the library. We never made the top as an overly amorous couple decided the stairway was a good place to get their freak on. Maybe that was Ozarka or Clinton in Helen come to think of it.

One of my favorite memories from the Union was from Jackie's first couple of years. He would meet with students in the Union on, I think, Mondays and talk about the previous game and preview the upcoming opponent and answer question from students. It was great. I was always amazed at how few students would show up and looking back it is amazing that no reporters where ever there either.

I remember there was a beautiful oak tree in front of the union when I started. A huge storm came through and trashed it while I was there. In its place went a horrendous piece of modern art.

That big oak tree always had a bunch of squirrels sitting on the ground around it when I was there. We worked up a bet about who could catch one on the ground. Beer might have been involved...

OG’s would remember that the loser of the hole, carries the cooler in disc golf. OG’s also had the GB’s set up in strategic places around town, for maximum efficiency...with multiple GB’s in the Commons, ready, loaded.

Its a Lane. They gave me a certificate to go pick out any recliner in the store. I walked in the next day with and in typical broke college kid fashion asked for the most expensive leather recliner I could get. He took me to this one and we loaded it in the back of my 1995 z71. I looked at getting some leather work done one my head rest that had the MSU/LSU final score and had SEC CHAMPS. Just never could find someone to do it. This recliner is ageless tho, and im 6’3 270 lbs. The only issue it has is if my wife sits in my lap the foot leaver automatically kicks up.
The recliner has successfully made it through 2 years at MSU, 2 year at our first home after getting married, a 3 year move to Hendersonville, Tn, 1 year stay at a rental in Florence, and now 9 years at our home in Madison.

My Humphrey's halftime claim to fame was the Pennzoil bowling competition back in about 2002ish. I was first and felt a twitch in my wrist right as I let the ball go and missed the pins completely. Crowd boos mildly. I figure, well that's it. But the guy I was going up against missed the pins too. Crowd boos more. So, I'm back up for round 2. Bowl a strike. Crowd starts to get into it and cheers. My competitor also bowls a strike. Crowd cheers more. Then I won the 3rd round something like 8 pins to 6.

I bought a Lane recliner there while in college. It lasted a good 20 years and still looked brand new. I used it a ton and it finally broke. Best $299 I ever spent on furniture.

For all I know it may have been you.

He was the kind that really understands the value of a good recliner too. It may have been the best sports moment at MSU that year.

That place was a Chinese plot to make the American college student as fat and tired in class as possible to dumb us down. It worked. I loved that place and the gargantuan portions they used to give.

Real OGs didn’t eat (or have) Taco Bell and Subway in the Union.

Real OGs ate at the House of BBQ after a night at the landing. Steak Sandwich with cheese please...can someone describe the napkin holders?

Bringing back some memories. Not all of them good like when my truck died in the middle of malfunction junction at 7:45 one morning.

Growing up in a town that doesn't even have a 4-way stop, I stayed the hell away from malfunction junction or just followed the vehicle ahead of me if I wound up there by accident.

Speaking of breaking down in an intersection, the gas gauge had gone out on my car and I miscalculated how much I had and I ran smooth out and died right in the middle of Hardy and Morrill one morning about 7:45. I turned my flashers on, locked my car and ran to Hand Lab before anyone could catch me and beat my ***. I called security and told them that I was out of gas. They said "So?". When I told them that I was in the middle of the intersection at Hardy and Morrill, they said "We'll be right there". The campus po-po showed up with a gas can in about 2 minutes.

The Landing . . . tears well up in my eyes when I think of that beautiful place.

Beers were $1 per bottle. I spent a lot of money there. Good times.

The House of Death is a different story.

I made that mistake once . . . ONCE!

After that, it was always the two-piece fried chicken basket from B-Quik.
