So does this rule us out for gettin Sarr?

I would say no, he was always trying to get a waiver. I actually feel better about Sarr because you have the transfer to Michigan too. Unless they just decide to rule all of those transfers have to sit just can’t see them doing that to all the kids... Sarr left because his coach was fired...

The always impersonal, always nameless evil NCAA is going to get us again! They probably blood sacrifice their children to Moloch as they pray naked under the moonlight and ask the pagan gods to curse our program...

No, I just imagine them as condescending psuedo-sophist a holes what think they have a right to constantly lecture others for thinking the wrong way, under the guise of thinly veiled humor.

I just don't see Sarr playing for UK this year. Has any player gotten a waver because his coach was fired ?

We know the NCAA is corrupt on many levels, there’s no way certain schools repeatedly get away with issues while others get looked at over mere rumors. The laws of probability are pure fiction if we are to believe that is coincidental. So I would be shocked if Sarr was allowed to play for UK.

I think Toppin will sit & I think Saar will play. JMO.
Bingo . I have zero concern about anyone sitting who lost a coach or moved back closer to home ( like Juzang or Baker did) they will play like the NCAA always lets pass. Toppin is 50/50 and I think he sits. Cal isn't worried so I am not .

Happens all the time . For example Tate martell got it for UM as Urban meyer left. Feilds from UGA got it and no coach left. Baker got it from UK . And the list goes on. If you are concerned you aren't paying attention. Not getting the waiver is the big deal not getting it. It will be fun people making a big deal of this for 2 months though.

the most important part of all of this is how Cal and Sarr are acting . If Cal was at all worried he would he hunting another center. He is not . Sarr is content. We are good. But people will stress none the less [laughing]

If you truly do what’s best for the student, you allow them transfer with a coaching change. We would absolutely be livid if someone transferred if Cal left but the players usually do really sign with a coach they built a relationship with even though the scholarship is to the school so it’s thr right thing to do. That’s just a nuance that really should just be automatic.

Martell’s waiver was approved because his waiver request stated that Ohio State ran him off and Ohio State did not dispute this. His waiver had absolutely nothing to do with a coaching change.

Fields’ waiver was approved because of circumstances at UGA that negatively impacted his well-being and UGA substantiated these circumstances to the NCAA.

Baker’s waiver was approved in large part due to the injuries he had sustained, the amount of missed time at UK and his desire to be closer to his “support network”.

What each of these three examples have in common is that their waiver requests and supporting documentation were 100% consistent with the applicable guidelines at the time they were filed. That’s why they were approved.

Toppin already said he was redshirting and wasn't applying for a waiver

Now I’m really worried about Sarr. You’re like 0 for 847 on guarantees. Dang it!

Why did Quade get a waiver? His coach didn't get fired. If anything, your coach getting fired only helps your case.

And Sarr's waiver request will document that he had a special relationship with Coach Danny Manning, that he had been assured Manning was returning, thus forfeiting other professional options he had like pursuing an NBA draft selection. And then when Manning was fired that he felt deceived by, and estranged from the Wake Forest staff. And that his professional and financial future would be adversely affected if he was not allowed to pursue the benefits of working with the staff at the University of Kentucky to improve his NBA prospects. And Wake Forest and their new coach have already said they would support his transfer request and not contest his version of events.

So, he has a waiver request with some of the same elements, and no weaker than Baker, Fields, Martell and others. And I'm sure Kentucky's legal staff can make it all sound at least as good as I just did.

That’s great, but none of what you mentioned is at all relevant to the transfer waiver guidelines. If they run with that argument, Sarr’s request will be denied. They better have something else and the documentation to back it up.

From my understanding, a basketball players are rarely (very rarely) granted immediate eligibility with the sole reason being his coach left. He’s going to hang his reason on not turning pro because he was told Manning would be back. Fingers crossed.

It is the NCAA so consistency isn't their strong suit.

You keep saying this, but it's simply NOT true. A coaching change or wanting to move closer to home, standing alone, have never been considered sufficient grounds. You need something more.

The reason Baker got a waiver was because he'd already sat out an entire season with injury and thus shouldn't have to sit out a second season and lose an overall season of eligibility, it had nothing to do with wanting to move back home (especially since he's not even from Arizona), as you've been falsely claiming.

The sort of special circumstances that have successfully gotten waivers are if a kid has a unique injury history, has already sat out an entire season, or some sort of serious family crisis requiring him to return home. But just wanting to move nearer to home or a coaching change alone has never been considered enough.

I have never believed from day 1 that he would see the court for us. The only hope IMO was the 1-time transfer happening and that didnt seem to be happening. And now this pretty much puts the nail in the coffin. Cal needs to come up with another option.

Martell’s waiver was approved because his waiver request stated that Ohio State ran him off and Ohio State did not dispute this. His waiver had absolutely nothing to do with a coaching change.

Plus, Martell had already had to sit out an entire season as a redshirt at OSU's direction. Thus his situation would've been uniquely unfair without a waiver (OSU makes him sit out a season, then runs him off, then he's forced to sit out a second and loses a season of eligibility, etc.).

The grounds where a player has already been forced to sit out a prior season are ones the NCAA has given a very sympathetic ear in recent years. But, unfortunately, those grounds don't apply to Sarr.

The thing about Sarr is Wake Forest, assistant coaches, and the head coach all lied to him and he turned down the change to go pro based off of that information. He should be eligible immediately.

What about family crisis? Was the family crisis proven?

It's not just that his coach was fired but the fact of when. The coaching staff sat down with him and laid out a plan which kept him from entering the draft and then a day after the deadline to enter the draft they fired his coach. I would think they knew they were firing him way before the end of April. It seems like they knew what they were doing and wanted to keep Sarr from leaving for the draft which is just dirty pool.

I’m fairly confident that the forthcoming waiver request was discussed and prepped with the NCAA prior to Sarr’s commitment. It would be foolish not to grease the skids before putting all your eggs in that basket. The messaging from all involved imply confidence in that matter as well.
