i mentioned that it would be interesting to see what kind of production they had after their illegal bats were taken away....well, it turns out, they cant hit worth a **** when they are swinging with what everyone else in the nation is. its incredible it took this long. it makes me wonder how different the landscape would be had this been done throughout the season or at the beginning of the regionals instead of at the cws only. i have a sneaking suspicion that ULL would have a few bats down as well. that said, i think this is happening on a lot of teams. maybe next season, we can get our hands on some of these because one thing is for damn sure, we sure as hell didnt get the hookup as evidence by our total lack of extra base hits all season.

Haven't been paying attention. Fill me in on the bats thing. Were there inspections at Omaha or something?
yes, om fans are saying all teams participating in the cws had bats confiscated, but im not sure on that. the bats in question were dented which would be a sign they had been rolled and thus had manufactured additional pop in the bats. these bats were not able to pass the ring test....i dunno....i read somewhere on the interweb that bat testing was new this year, but i also read that (per an om fan), state had bats confiscated last year, which is seemingly contradictory (since it is allegedly new this year) and news to me, as the first i had heard anything about it is from a bear...obviously, it must be true.

Left hander that can hit 95 with a wicked slider that he throws for strikes. I was hoping he would have an off night. He didn't.
I think our approach hurt us though too. It was clear our scouting report said to attack him early in the count. I think we could've made him labor some by being patient and forcing him to throw strikes early in the count, rather than allowing him to nibble and have us chase.
It was a nice pitching duel but it did appear UVA may be the team to beat in
this thing. They got a bunch of guys in scoring position and you guys found a way to keep them from scoring to your credit. The Bousfield catch was a thing of beauty. I know nothing about Texas Tech, who will they be pitching?

Maybe true BUT not a single mention about ANY OTHER TEAM LOSING bats other than OM in the national media or here in Virginia covering the Cavs in the CWS.

others associated with the Ole Miss baseball program. There hasn't been one shred of evidence produced other that what

UVA is definitely the team to beat. We needed to be able to find a way to knock them to the loser's bracket.
We probably have a better hitting team, slightly, but they still hit really well, and they have a better AND deeper pitching staff.
They used two great pitchers last night, and they still have like 4 or 5 elite level arms left that still haven't pitched.
Only chance we have in my opinion is to have TCU beat UVA, so we only have to put together one win against UVA. I could see us being able to come out of the loser's bracket if we have to beat TTU, UVA, and TCU twice, but if we have to go through UVA twice, I don't see it happening.

It's because the ONLY way we could get to Omaha is to cheat of course, just like we never get a recruit we didn't buy, and MSU never signs a recruit that doesn't sign with MSU just for the love of all things Starkville, Mullen, and Bulldog. Does it really burn you up THAT bad for us to still be playing?
You were there last year and made it to the title series. You shouldn't have a hang up about it, yet you still seem quite consumed with us being there this year. You can believe what you want if it makes you feel better. It won't change anything though. We will still be playing Tuesday, and we'll likely be back to Omaha again at times in the not too distant future. If it burns you up that bad, you need to start working on excuses/conspiracy theories now to get you through those future trips as well.
I wonder how many fans are so consumed with a rival, to the point where they are writing letters to media members asking them to investigate something like this further to see if other teams had bats confiscated or not. I'm assuming there really isn't much of a story there, or the media would have spent more effort following up on this.
By the way, it wasn't our "juiced" bats that held ULL and their "juiced" bats to 3 earned runs over the last 18 innings of the Super Regional....

Look, all I'm saying is that I'm tired people posting that "they are hearing" or "have read reports" that teams other than Ole Miss had bats confiscated. The only report of that was in an interview that Bonner did with Sikes Orvis. I have looked, and can't find any reference to other teams having bats taken, except from the interview with Orvis.
All I'm asking for is that if anyone is going to post that "other teams had bats confiscated", they should be able to provide some evidence other than this interview.
"Better hitting" is relative. Y'all are probably the best hitting team of the 8 on a normal day, but in TD Ameritrade against elite pitching, y'all lose the advantage. UVA looked much better equipped and I wouldn't be surprised if a few of the others are as well.
You're right though. Y'all need TCU to beat UVA. Not sure if UVA would pitch Kirby again whenever y'all would play your 3rd game, but you'd definitely see him if y'all have to beat Tech and TCU first.

Absolutely. Pretty much after 2009, I was ready for him to go.
For me, it was primarily driven by the fact that I thought he'd created too big of a mental hump by failing that many times at the Super Regional level, and I certainly think that has played a role in the past. Sometimes when you're close enough times but fail every time, it can creep into the psyche of the team when they get in that situation.
I thought we needed a change just to break that mental block. Fortunately, Bianco and this team were able to break that mental block themselves. I've had my gripes about some of the things he did on the field as well. He made some really poor assistant coaching hires that contributed to my disgust with him, and some things about his approach always bothered me, but the Godwin hire was a very good hire, and the approach, especially at the plate, was much more well-rounded this year.
That's why I'm confident he'll take a few more teams in the not too distant future back here. When future teams are more believing they will make it rather than hoping something doesn't go wrong to prevent it, it's a lot easier.
The one key is what he's going to do when Godwin is hired away. Godwin is gone either after this year or after next year. Someone's going to make him a head man. Who will Bianco go get to replace him, and will that coach bring as much to the table? That's my only concern going forward.
Godwin and Lafferty certainly brought in a great class this past year. Our freshman group is really solid.
Their approach is to hit bombs and when they don't leave TD Ameritrade, their cocks shrink down and they lose confidence it seems.
I don't believe TD Ameritrade works against our offense really.
The only hitter we have in our order that relies heavily on power for production is Orvis. Our next best power threats (Allen, Anderson, Bousfield) are all line drive/gap type hitters that just happen to lift a ball on occasion.
If anything, with our outfield speed and a pitching staff that doesn't walk a lot of people, I would say we are a team that should do well in a large park.
However, I do agree that our slight advantage on offense is negated by the pitching. I think it has less to do with the park though and more to do with the fact that most of the teams left have elite pitching, and therefore, these games are going to be lower scoring. We'll see if we can advance to later in the week if getting past some of these aces up front allows our bats to make a dent (pun intended) on the field.
On UVA, I'm not sure how they'll handle their pitching. I've heard that even their No. 4 guy is pretty special, so if they go through the winner's bracket, they may stick with a 4 man rotation and pitch the 4 guy if they get to the "if necessary" game. That's the tricky part.
If you're in that spot, do you bring back your ace on 5 days rest in order to try to give it your best shot at making the finals? If you do, then the best case scenario for that ace is to have to pitch on only 3 days rest in Game 3 of the finals, so you risk not even being able to throw your ace in the championship series.

Maybe. Or maybe UVA's pitcher is that good. He also 1 hit Arkansas over 8 innings in the Regionals.
That's why it's so essential to win the first two games. You can manage your pitching far more effectively not having to play two extra games to get to the championship series. If you somehow make it that far, usually your best guys are not available for more than a few innings at a time and that can play against you, especially if the team opposite you did move through the winners bracket. Even an incredibly deep staff better pitch lights out top to bottom to have a chance.
The Omaha format today helps a little bit with coming out of the loser's bracket, since you have more rest for your pen and have the chance to come back with some of your starters later in the tournament, but obviously it's a lot easier to go 3-0 than to have to go 4-1 while trying to win the last two against a team that's only played 2 games to that point.
Virginia, in my opinion, was the team best suited to be able to come out of the loser's bracket and still make the championship. They have pitching for days and a solid offense that can make weaker pitchers pay.
That's why our only shot, in my opinion, is to have TCU beat UVA. TCU is stout too, but I think they are beatable coming out of the loser's bracket. It would take a lot of good fortune for any team to come out of the loser's bracket and eliminate UVA with two straight wins.
