No matter who UK hired......a significant portion of the posters on messages boards would have been irate about it.

None of us know how any coach hired will perform. What works in one circumstance doesn't necessarily work in another circumstance . Pope might well be a bad hire that gets canned in 3 years. Could have been true of Hurley, Drew, Pearl and Donavon too.
Pope might go on to create a 20 year dynasty with multiple titles and a dozen Final Fours. None of us know that either.

The one thing that is indisputable....hes our guy....and I'm going ride or die with him until he shows that he's not. Not a second thought about woulda coulda shoulda.

So true. I was huge on Oats and Pearl.

A big portion of the fanbase would have been upset to pay the buyout for Oats.

A bigger portion of the fanbase would have been upset to take a big greasy cheating sweathog.

It turns out we got a great dude with an immaculate reputation, and he truly bleeds blue.
