I have a soft spot for malfunction junction. It's the campus I remember. I'm better for having endured it.

I'm also extremely jealous of all the students down there today - they don't know how good they have it.

A total of 6 different roads converged on one spot. I think I only saw one wreck there in the 4 years I was at MSU.

The night of the pre-UK game midnight pep rally in 1999....

....we came in off Hwy 12 and went all the way counterclockwise around Malfunction Junction to University on green lights. It was amazing.

Funny this comes up today. I was in Starkville with my son yesterday and road through/by the Junction and mention to him what is was like 25 yrs ago. We had a good laugh.

There were rarely wrecks there because everyone always paid attention when they got there. One did not simply drive through malfunction junction. It required extreme focus. Every. Single. Time.

I didn't realize it was still there as recent as 2005. I thought it disappeared back in the late 80's or early 90's. Damn, I'm getting old!

My fondest memory was one Spring evening in 1983, that we went through there, headed to Dudy Noble with a keg of beer and about a dozen folks in the back of a pick up. One of the guys fell out and bounced about three times. We never slowed up as he jumped up and raced to catch up .
Maybe you had to be there to appreciate, but ah, life's sweet little memories!!

And there was the intricate system of interminable stoplights that made getting through there a chore. One late Thursday night I was leaving a study group and trying to get home (seriously, I was studying and not drinking at all). I still needed to study up some and I was really nervous about the test, and I was stuck at a redlight in Malfunction Junction. The light would not change, and there was absolutely no other traffic. After carefully looking all around and getting impatient, I ran the redlight, and sure enough there was a campus cop hiding in the shadows up by the stadium.

He really didn't want to buy my study group story, but once I got out of my car it was obvious I was not drunk or anything. He actually let me go with a stern warning.

I aced my test.

Back in the day, during our Old South week at the KA house, we would shoot tennis ball out of the cannon and hit cars there.

I took the wife up for her first visit last year. I was on campus from 99 to 04. The place is hardly recognizable now.

I almost went with 7, but then got confused trying to count them. You could really even say 8 since 2 roads merge to become #3.
