On a serious note - opiates

I am just looking for resources here. A pretty good friend of mine was fired from work because he dropped a packet of heroin at the office. I found out from another friend. I am stunned. I never expected it from him. I called him last night. Got the usual response.....it was old.... Holding it for a friend.... made a mistake.... the typical denials from a user. But what bothers me is that I knew something was not right and never put two and two together.

I noticed a change in July. He started smoking cigarettes this summer as an adult...I never saw him but I could smell it. I saw a pack in his car. Maybe he was trying to mask the smell of smoking heroin? I have no idea. He started borrowing small sums of money and always paid it back until he borrowed $300 late September. That never was repaid. But the biggest issue was that he became withdrawn. The dude I knew was absent. He was easily agitated but I thought that was because he didn't want to discuss the loan. I never even guessed drugs let alone heroin.

He doesn't have much close family just a handful of friends. This is the 3rd time I have been personally impacted by opiates. The first was a kid of a another friend. He ended up in jail after robbing a pharmacy. The 2nd was an admin assistant at work that lost everything including her husband and kids. Just wondering if anybody can't point me to a good on-line resource. I suspect this will go downhill quickly now that he has no income. This stuff is pure evil......

How does somebody go from occasionally smoking weed to heroin.......this makes no sense to me. I just read that heroin is always almost addictive. Freaking horrible

I've lost one son to OD and another is basically lost and in jail. I know of no online resources to help you. Sorry. You can look for help at local churches or rescue missions. All opiates are addictive.

I'll Pray for you OM1 for your strength and some Wisdom to offer your friend. It's a Spiritual Demon (addiction) only Christ can ultimately break that bondage. Don't know how you can lead him, but at least point him in that direction. It's a hopeless battle without the strength you can only find through the power of Christ and Almighty God's amazing Grace.

You should ask God to help you too, so you can help him. Christ is your answer...no joke.

I am not a big church going person but I am a believer and I do pray occasionally. I guess the feeling of hopelessness is the issue. When I called last night, there was complete denial even when I KNOW this has been going on for months. There isn't anything anyone can do until the person asks for help or at least realizes their is a problem they need to deal with.

Damn, I am so sorry. I can't even imagine what you and your family have experienced.

I messed this up in the past. When my admin assistant came to me and told me she was prostituting herself for drugs, I called HR. I'll never forgive myself for not trying to get her help even though the last communication I had with her, she was working again and said she was clean. In this case, I want to help. I just don't know what to do. Call his family members? It just won't end well.

Don't want to sound like a complete jacka$$, but I have nothing for drug users/abusers. This "addiction" problem is a copout. In today's society, we are all pretty much exposed to situations where we could choose to be "addicted" but CHOOSE not to. It comes down to this: make the right decision or face the consequences. I've had friends of mine that have gone down the "addiction" path and can say that they are no longer friends of mine. Hope all that use/abuse go to prison and never come out. I feel nothing for them. Sorry. We all have choices, and it's time for people to start focusing on those that make the RIGHT CHOICE and not spending BILLIONS on trying to fix the problems of those that don't.

Is the government going to pay for my children's college 100% for making the right choice? Nope. But they will a heroin user? Pathetic.

And you are all for the government paying people to have more children. Free phones and other various welfare goodies.

The trouble is knowing where to step and when. I would let your friend know you would like to help and if there's anything you could do. My ex and I got divorced in 82, children were young and the oldest was affected most, he was 9 and now is 44. He got his youngest brother, I have no proof but I think it's accurate, hooked and Jason couldn't survive it. That was in 2006. Great kid. I never brought to here when it happened. Probably stay away from family members.

Agreed. That's why you ask for "help" by asking Almighty God to forgive you and save you from that Sin (addiction/bondage). It can't be done any other way...not with any long term success because it's a Spiritual battle and flesh is powerless against Spiritual forces of darkness.

Here's a story you can share with him;

excerpt

"Addicted for more than 25 years to cocaine, crack, or alcohol, Lindell found himself the object of an intervention by his own drug suppliers in 2008. Three of Minneapolis’ biggest drug dealers refused to sell him crack after he had been up for 14 consecutive days. They also put word out on the street that no dealer was to sell to Lindell".

There is zero doubt that some drugs have a strong and severe physical addictive properties.

Says who? You don't know **** when it comes to my beliefs. I stopped at one of those "free phone" handout places before and let them have it.

You are for this funding for recovery because it personally affected you. But you are against food stamps for poor people.

Yeah, should the government treat everyone with AIDS with free health care? Nope. Why not? Because they had a choice. Same with drugs. (EDIT: Well, those that got AIDS from sexual activity or drug activity had a choice)

Did you read what I posted? I never said anything other than offering his support and personal help. I said a local church or rescue mission. Gosh, where does my offering up that advice get to govt funding?

I'm against food stamps for half of the 48 million that's for sure. No reason for there to be more than 20 mill.
