Is there any chance under Mickeys tutelage and with a passing qb Omar finally lives up to the hype?

Hopefully. It appears to me his problems are all mental. If he gets his mind right, maybe he breaks out.
Agree and I think Betts will benefit too. Two guys that should be the most excited about our new WR coach and our new QB.
He was Director of University Relations for Canvas Credit Union, so you really can't be sure he knew what he was doing in that job, either.
Add Mr Whipple who loves to chuck the rock around and that WR room should be the most excited on the team about now.
I think Omar has a big year. I’m betting on at least 700 yards from him if he stays on the field. Him and Palmer will be a great 1-2 punch, their strengths really complement each other. I like the kid out of New Mexico as our #3 as well.
JMO but I haven’t seen it come together yet for Betts. He still plays really hesitant aside from his designed runs or simple routes. Looks like he’s still figuring out the mental part. But if/when that clicks he’s going to be a monster.

Manning needs to learn that just being out there and running around, doesn't get you the ball. He has been a "star" at lower levels and IMHO he didn't have to know option routes, and complicated coverages of the B1G. When he figures out what it takes in all facets of the game at this level, he will begin to shine.

Omar is a mismatch for a lot of small Corners but we haven't done a good job of taking advantage of any our guys strengths. It's been like that at WR, RB, and TE. It often feels like we just randomly throw our guys out there and watch Adrian wait for someone to get wide open.
I'm hoping the odd roster usage changes this year with our new offensive staff.
Examples of not taking advantage of players strengths:
-Wan'Dale being used at RB in short yardage and goaline situations while Dedrick Mills watched from the sideline.
-Rahmir being used for short yardage while Yant and Stepp watched from the sideline.
-6'9 Austin Allen never having a chance for a jump ball.
-WRs height advantages like 6'4 Manning, 6'2 Betts, and 6'4 Liewer have never utilized.
-Liewer playing over a bunch of highly recruited guys while never being put in position to prove why he should be on the field.
-Quick, shifty WRs like Brown and Nixon watch from the sideline while we throw screens and run option with guys like Manning and Falck.
-Forcing our QB, the nations leading fumbler every season, to have the most carries on the team each year. Meanwhile we have 5-6 scholarship RBs watching him fumble games away.

Omar was probably his own worst enemy at times, but I thought he looked pretty good this year and we did not target him enough. A competent QB making timely decisions will help.
I often noticed him blocking well on the outside. Mickey will coach him into a beast.

Think he started to get it turned around the last 1/2 of last season. Now with him it is definitely mental issues on and off the field. Maybe this being his last year and with a legit WR coach he will put it all together. I think the biggest player that is going to benefit from Joseph and CT coming here is going to be Betts. I look for him to have a big year.

He's one of our better route runners, and he'd probably be even better if he knows he's getting the ball when he's open. There was a play in the Oklahoma game where he just made a simple 7 yard in cut, and if AM hits him it was gone because the defense had no safety help. Instead AM rolls out and ends up taking a 4 yard loss out of bounds. I'm glad those days are over at least.
Betts doesn’t give me the impression that he has the aggressiveness, competitiveness, and sense of attack needed to be great. Super talented, but seems too laid back and chill out there. I hope he can tap into that killer instinct.
Plenty of successful WR’s are silent assassins, but still have that edge.
Please. For one thing, you can't see the routes of every receiver on every play. There is a reason he has not seen the field for several games since coming here, it's not because he can't catch a ball. This isn't JC ball where he can dominate and run what he wants. If he was open as much as Toure was, he would of had the ball thrown his way, even with AM.

Agreed, he's exceeded my expectations as an underclassmen, yet at the same time I feel his ceiling is limited.
Everyone is talking about what Whipple did for Picketts career… but whip also coached Jordan Addison this years Belinekoff award. Hopefully our WR benefits too
