Omaha/Nebraska Drivers???

Anyone else notice how slow folks in Omaha drive? Had an opportunity to drive around a good bit of the city while I was there. It seemed like everyone drove the posted speed limit or below on the Interstate, main streets and side streets (imagine that lol). I wouldn't say I have a lead foot but I keep up with traffic for the most part here in BHM. Just seemed but out there like everyone was driving along easy as you please. From KC to Omaha everyone (including the Semi's) didn't seem to be in a big hurry either. Just wondered if any of y'all noticed this while out there.

ETA: Don't get me wrong...I'm not complaining. It's just an observation. I loved the city, the people and the topography of the area. The place was clean and the folks were very hospitable.

Heck I was in a line of state folks from kc to Omaha and on the way back. I was getting blown off the road doing 87.

In and around town, it did appear locals were going pretty slow.

It may have to do with the amount of law enforcement. In MS, MHP and most local sheriff's are stretched very thin. I drive 55 from Jxn to Grenada dozens of times per year, rarely do I see MHP, although I've seen more this year, that in the last decade combined on that stretch.

I was impressed with the PD presence around TD Ameritrade.

I drove up for Father's Day. While travelling the State of Missouri (I-55, I-70, I-29), I noticed the roadways littered with deer, in various states of decay.

If you have ever been to Omaha outside of the CWS, it has the least amount of traffic I have ever seen in a downtown area. I remember counting cars on 480 from my hotel room one time in the middle of a weekday and there were around 4-5 per minute right through the heart of downtown.

I actually took pictures a couple of years ago. This is 480 downtown near Creighton at 7:15 am on a Wednesday in April of 2019. It should have been rush hour gridlock in my mind...It was so ridiculous I took pictures because I didn't think anyone would believe me. It felt like a ghost town compared to any other city I have been too.

And Kansas City is a breeze. Came through about noon on Monday and Thursday. Thursday was a little more hectic, but still not as bad as Jackson Ms.

A couple of years ago we drove to Maine and then across to Niagara Falls before heading back South toward home. Our observation was that in general, the further North we got, the slower and safer people drove. I think a lot of it had to do with the dollar amount associated with traffic tickets in some of those States. In driving across the State of New York, it seemed that absolutely no one broke the speed limit. A conversation with locals revealed that a speeding ticket could cost in excess of $1,000 bucks. Yikes! Pennsylvania was about the same. In Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina, everyone acts like they are in a NASCAR race, it got much better after that. At our age people flying around on the highways makes up pretty nervous. FYI, Maine is beautiful!

I got off the Interstate and drove through downtown Omaha Wednesday about noon. Nice/clean like the rest of the city but it had a ghost town feel to it. Very little car traffic and even less foot traffic - during lunch. Drove out to Omaha Country Club (hosting the US Senior Open this week) an old Perry Maxwell design. Would love an opportunity to play that track next time we make the CWS.

I did notice the same thing.
Also was getting passed going 78 to KC.
At least they drive the speed limit though.
I've driven from Seattle to Portland several times and it's worse there, people drive 5mph under the speed limit regardless of congestion. Drives me nuts.

I made this comment to my wife while we were staying downtown. It seemed very slow for a downtown business district during a work week. Very few cars on the road and just not very many business type people. I found it odd to have so many large buildings with very little traffic during weekday mornings.

Nebraska/Kansas folks tend to be rule-followers. I find them to be some of the best drivers in general.
