If I took that type of pounding in the Peach Bowl, that ring would be in a pawn shop by now.

It was a pretty weak effort. I'll say that. Uncharacteristic for the quality that the video department usually puts out. It seemed disjointed, and I didn't quite get what the message was supposed to be. At least they didn't do a good job bringing it all together.

Do the schools use a lot of student interns when they create these things? Or is there just a lot of turnover? Seems like a few years ago UM had really good hype videos and we didn't (except for those from the guy that did it in his spare time that was threatened with legal action). Now it's the reverse.

ETA: going off other people's comments; I haven't actually watched the hype video

This is the first one I can remember that wasn't up to snuff. Our video department is still generally killing it, but this one was their weakest effort in a while. It's possible that they gave some autonomy to the lower-level guys on this particular one. I don't know, but it seemed disjointed to me.

That has to be staged, right? There's no way he used that in an actual

You are THE FLAGSHIP**

locker room speech. He even seems to glance at the camera when he's saying it.

I don't know which is worse: that they staged him acting that scene out for fan video use, or that he would actually say it at halftime and think 19 year old football players would get fired up hearing that they were the "flagship"... WTF

That is exactly what I have never understood about the whole flagship thing. Why would that get you excited? Is it supposed to mean you're the best? Being the "flagship" has not kept you from getting your *** beat 4 out of the last 6 years and finishing behind state in the standings for a half decade.

Again Ole Miss lies when they call themselves the "flagship" university.

If you have to try and convince people that you're the flagship, you're not the flagship. You've just got self esteem issues.

I don't really see much difference between Hugh Freeze's use of "flagship" in that context, and the "Our State" marketing campaign. I think people could reasonably take either statement as a jab, but I've always seen them as a means to get a fanbase fired up. No disrespect intended, but I just don't see either one as something to feel slighted over.

Maybe so. I've never heard Dan say "This is our state!" but I could have

missed it.

Fortunately I've never heard him talk like Jimmy Swaggart either.

"State" is what we're known as. Y'all got flagships, sharks, rebels, tottys - it's hard to keep up.

To be fair to them though, they had to scramble because of a late scratch from Hulk Hogan...

Not that the Rebel Confederati had any issue with his TMZ video.

From my understanding, part of his image rehabilitation is to distance himself from casually racist iconography.
