Not much, but not because of the politics of it all. I just don't enjoy watching many of the winter sports.

I watched Stihl's lumberjack games on the Deuce a few years back. Highly entertaining and wasn't political at all. I'd watch that again.

Was at a bar Saturday night and they had on a couples curling event. USA Vs Somebody. I was locked in. We left before it was over. That is all I will watch.

I haven’t watched any. I may tune into some skiing since I’m headed out to tear up some runs next week. But otherwise screw it. F#*% China.

too many subjectively judged events. Give me some track and field and I'll watch. Maybe some downhill timed skiing events or ski jumping. Bobsledding maybe.

Olympics are ridiculously expensive. Most countries ask "is this worth it?" The right answer is no.
The bids for the 2022 winter games were Beijing and Almaty, Kazakhstan. And that's it. A few decades ago there were a dozen countries all vying for the games. They were considered a money-making opportunity and a chance to show off to the world. Then we had Greece bankrupting itself and leaving behind derelict venues, China and Russia spending 50 billion each for the games, terrorist attacks in London before the 2012 games, and Rio barely able to get its venues done on time and way over budget. Sooner or later the realization is that the games are more of a massive expense and headache for the citizens than they are worth. There is more interest in the summer games than the winter games, but both need to be scaled back substantially.

I think the last time the U.S. hosted the games it was a money loser as a stand alone event but it has to be tough to judge the economic impact accurately of having the games in your country. IF you make it stand alone on sponsorships, TV rights and admission fees then it has no chance of turning a profit. China is using it for propaganda purposes.

Another overlooked impact is a lot of the places that host, end up with delipidated, unused Olympic campuses that just sit and rot.

Not watching. The games should not be in China. Part of the reason they are is so very few countries even bid for them. The Olympics need to be scaled back in size to make hosting them easier for more countries. Get rid of the fringe sports that didn't exist 50 years ago and sports that require special unique venues like curling. Stop turning the opening ceremony into a massive brag-fest for the host country. Stop forcing countries to build gleaming hotels for elitist media and dignitaries.

As far as China, they covered up the true origins of Covid-19, enslave and abuse their own people, and are threatening to take over what should be a free, independent country in Taiwan. Our political leaders sold our economy to China and we have a president with family business dealings with a corrupt communist regime. We should be trying to move manufacturing out of China and partnering with countries in Latin America to do that.
This. China doesn't create much but they sure copy and steal a lot.

Maybe if we got more manufacturing in the America's we'd have less immigration problems. But you also need natural resources

Utah did quite well hosting the Olympics, but that was due in large part to a big infusion of federal money. As a taxpayer, Mitt Romney's plan to finance a no-debt Olympics pissed me off. But as an economist, I had to admire it. The guy sure knew what he was doing.

Your solutions are idiotic. Curling is the fastest growing winter sport. A large part of the growth in events in the Olympics is adding a substantial number of women's events to roughly equal the men's events. China is the fastest growing country for interest in winter sports.

Being from CO, love the Winter Olympics. Just watched women’s moguls—incredibly difficult to do what those ladies are doing. Sad to see Mikaela Shiffrin skid out on her first giant slalom run, but she’ll be back (snow looks like complete crap). I know one of our snowboard cross racers so will be rooting for him on Wednesday night. Go Mick go!
Not watching except it is on the TVs at the gym. Curling was on this morning. I used to ski at Mammoth Mountain in the Sierras. Once in awhile they would have a downhill event. Started at a saddle at the top of the mountain ridge and went down what was black diamonds all the way. Watching the skiers go by so fast on that steep run was truly amazing. I couldn't figure out if they were extremely brave or just plain crazy.

It's obvious a lot of people posting here don't know the first thing about these sports. So let's just propose that we get rid of them. Yeah that's always the solution when you have an incredibly narrow world view.

The Olympics are like the Pro Bowl, the Super Bowl, Major League Baseball and the NBA.. something to sell advertising with little substance to care about.. I would agree that the Lumberjacking competitions are much better to watch..

If there was just a way for the US and the world to kiss the bully’s ring and they would start to play nice and not do what the leaders of the nation want to do and have done since the nation was restructured by Mao. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

The Chinese are all about the end game and that is world domination.

And that my friend does not include freedom and liberty
If that's the case, they're going to do it anyway. Antagonizing them will only speed that process up, I can guarantee you that. Every advantage the US had in the 20th century to become the preeminent world power, China now has in the 21st century. Only idiots who are too stupid to see this are in favor of antagonizing China.

I bailed on the Olympics years ago. NBC which stands for Nothing But Crying is horrible. They cover it like a silly reality TV show instead of a sporting event. ABC did a much better job with Olympic coverage.

Ok. You might be right. But I'm going down swinging rather than dropping my draws and bending over. When the doc puts on rubber gloves I will to. Makes them take a step back!!!!

Really poor taste in your opening line. Maybe try something like, "Your solutions are debatable", that's alittle more user friendly.

He’s got Tourette’s or something… whenever he sees something he doesn’t agree with he drops the ‘idiot’ moniker.

And now that I’ve posted this, I’m now in his sights.

I never called him an idiot. I said his specific ideas that were listed in his post were idiotic, likely because he doesn't have much experience in this area. I don't think you're an idiot either, just a snake.
