If Dolly's contributions to humanity fail to reach a level worthy of lowering flags, we probably shouldn't lower them for anyone.

[ckDOG]

What a dumb 17ing hill to die on in 2026.

[jethreauxdawg]

I’ve wondered if somethings were worth the honor. This was not one of the things I wondered about. Interesting stance to take publicly by the mayor.

[msstatelp1]

If it was a gas station, storage area, or hotel he’d approve it in a second. Seems to be all we have going up nowadays other than a couple of fast food places.

[dickiedawg]

It is an interesting question as to where the line would be.
But Dolly Parton… if America had anything akin to sainthood, she would be a candidate.

Dammit I hope Trump doesn’t read this.

[BreckyBratt]

Sorry, but Dolly never made any man be at half staff! Why lie with the flags?

[She Mate Me]

One of the dumber, more tone deaf things I can recall a politician doing.

Fire his A$$

Is there a non-fatal Darwin award for small town politicians ?

[Maroon13]

I agree with the mayor.

[She Mate Me]

I agree with the mayor.

100% agree. Also agree with the Mayor, but I certainly wouldn't have publicly stated that.

You kinda just did…

[PrimeDog]

Why would that guy jump on this train. The orange pedophile ordered it and even faked a photo with Dolly to pretend like he cares

[Pars]

Yeah she’s arguably done more for children reading in America than any one person.

Donated 10s of millions in disaster relief and medical research.

she was one of the best among us if they aren’t lowered for her no one deserves it

17 that guy

[OG Goat Holder]

delete, double post

[OG Goat Holder]

I agree with the mayor.

So only military and the like can be heroes? That's interesting.

[11thEagleFan]

I agree with the mayor.

And I agree with him - did we lower them for Hank or cash? Will we lower them for rupaul or Mamdami?

[thatsbaseball]

Amazing what some will do on the internet to draw attention (good or bad) to themselves . Oh well trolls will be trolls .

[She Mate Me]

And I agree with him - did we lower them for Hank or cash? Will we lower them for rupaul or Mamdami?

They’re not being lowered because she was a successful entertainer. They’re being lowered to honor an exceptional human being.

And I agree with him - did we lower them for Hank or cash? Will we lower them for rupaul or Mamdami?

The reasons why go completely over your head but that’s not surprising.

[MagicDawg]

I posted exactly about this a few days ago. I am not usually a fan of entertainers getting half staff honors unless there are extenuating patriotic and/or humanitarian circumstances. Bob Hope, for example. I think Dolly's literacy program, disaster relief, and hospital building put her in the honor category. Lots of public service going way beyond performing arts excellence.

Didn't the Southaven mayor recently tell residents that if they don't like the data center, they should move?

Shut your wohore mouth.

We did fly flags at half staff when Johnny cash died.

He did. He also pushed thru an ordinance that residents could be fined up to $1000 for broken window blinds.

The world is full of uneducated morons, and educated derelicts...

[Bulldog Bruce]

My issue with his statement is that it is filled with his opinion. What if in his opinion he doesn't like chocolate ice cream and thinks it should not be sold in Olive Branch. He can't unilaterally decide to remove all chocolate ice cream from the city.
Multiple celebrities have died during his time as mayor and the President has not declared flags should fly at half staff for any of them. So for him to declare that someone who works in the entertainment industry is undeserving of such an honor, that is pretty predjudicial.
