That was fun to read.

But there are two takeaways from me:
1) The blame needs to be more on Freeze than Luke
2) What kind of garbage is SI really putting out? My how the mighty have fallen.

Our program got nuked. Doesnt surprise me we have no NFL talent. I didnt want Luke going forward but he had a thin roster playing hard. Cant question his ability to motivate.

My goodness, what a horrific piece of writing. The Yahoo bot writer could have produced better writing than that piece of excrement.

Maybe Engie can step in with some writing instruction for the current crop of SI "writers."

I wonder how much OM's "party culture" has to do with issues like this. Seems like they way they recruit...slobbering all over them on the Square, hooking them up with "girlfriends", inflating their egos constantly, etc....would just be a huge distraction throughout a recruit's stay there. They either are attracting the wrong recruits or their campus lifestyle isn't conducive to consistently developing the talent a recruit may have.

Their media has already shifted focus to dogging Leo Lewis for not getting drafted. Predictable.

If a school has to get shat upon by the national Media, it might as well be Ole Miss.
That is a really bad article though & it is a worse look for Sports Illustrated than it is for Ole Miss

I cant imagine anything has really changed from when we were pulling classes that had us competing for the West. Well except for the whole global pandemic thing, you know.

The fact is we had no NFL talent. Everything else is pretty much irrelevant at this point.

It does actually make SI look worse than what was said about UM. It read like some 6th grader's essay. Not to mention the fact that it was one draft and everyone in the SEC knew Ole Miss's best players this season were freshmen.

I hate to have to admit I clicked on the link of such a "hit" piece.

If they want to write a "hit" piece about the draft they should talk about the even field of college football when most of the first three rounds were just about the entire Bama and LSU teams.

^^Difference bt State and OM fans right here^^

Their fans would take this article, claim it Gospel, and probably mail it to every recruit in a 500 mile radius from Starkville.

Our fans critique the writing and give OM the benefit of the doubt.

They do a much better job at putting the fan in fanatical.

The benefit of the doubt goes to a Little, Metcalf, and Brown. Those guys could have been drafted in the 3rd round after their Freshmen Year. They were already NFL made. Those guys didn’t get developed at Ole Miss. they got “fed”. The fact that they dropped from Top 10-15 picks is THE reflection on Ole Miss, not on those players individual assets.

What about Dawson Knox, Evan Engram, Marquise Haynes, and Jordan Wilkins?

Treadwell and Nkmediche obviously didnt live up to the NFL billing they got coming from Ole Miss. Should they have been drafted higher?

Everyone in the NFL had a chance to draft Chris Jones once and passed. He is for my money the best DL in the NFL not named Aaron Donald. Is that Mississippi States fault?

Should they have? Seems like you've got your answer.

Fault?

Yeah it ain't hard to explain. The 2016 class had a bunch of superstars who left early last year, and the middle part transferred out. The 2017 and 2018 classes were bombs due to the threat of probation. I doubt you'll have many drafted next year either, but year after that they should pick up again as the 2019 class will be draft eligible.

All I'm saying is that Leach better go up to Oxford and win this year. This is likely the last truly 'down' year of Ole Miss football as I expect Kiffin to add some talent, if nothing else.

Perhaps that was poorly phrased. I dont blame MSU for causing Chris Jones' draft stock to fall to the second round. I blame poor evaluation on the part of 32 NFL teams. CJ did everything he needed to do at MSU to be a first round pick.

As for the first four names, they are all a response, or rather an obvious refutation, to the notion that Ole Miss doesn't develop players and only send players to the NFL who were NFL ready when they got on campus. None of those guys were close to NFL ready from the start.

Obviously Nkemdiche and Treadwell were overvalued coming out, but if the NFL couldn't get the former's head on straight and the latter better speed, I dont see why anyone thinks any college should've been able to do it.

Actually, I think it means MSU further developed Jones from the "2nd best DL" out of HS to the best in the NFL unlike Ole Miss destroying the apparent best DL, Nkemdechi.

No telling how Brown and Metcalf would have turned out had they gone somewhere else.

What? The point is that Chris Jones should've been a sure fire top ten pick. It's not MSU's fault he wasnt, or wasnt a first rounder. It's the fault of the NFL for not evaluating well.

Brown and Metcalf turned out fine. You are correct that no one knows how they would've turned out elsewhere, but where should they have gone? They got immediate playing time at a school that has sent several WRs to the NFL.

It is absolutely dishonest to pretend that Metcalf's injuries did not affect his stock.

I laughed out loud at this.

So I didn't realize that SI had been sold and was being published by some digital media company called Maven. It's become essentially a Rivals/Scout/247 knockoff just without the depth of content. I wonder if they have DFWLandshark on staff...

Fortunately, Mississippi State does not have a 'community' there: https://www.si.com/college-football/community
One less thing to ***** about.

I'm not so sure about that. I think most of us agreed in a thread a while back that Simmons and Cox both had better college careers than Jones. The guy is a beast, but he didn't play to his full potential in college. I assume NFL scouts noticed that and had concerns.

Not taking anything away from those guys. They are great players. I thought Chris Jones should've been Super Bowl MVP this year. I would take him over anyone but Aaron Donald.

I thought he should have been MVP, too. He's a beast. My earlier comments are no slight to him at all. I think he needs to do it a little bit longer to catch up with Fletch and Simmons has as much or more upside than both of them.

Of course, Chris is the one with the championship right now.

No draftees in the class of 2013.... yet that was the year they had the number one recruiting class... Isn't that right?

I would disagree. I thought Jones played pretty hard every game. He was our D-Line for at least one full year.

Cox on the other hand phoned it in for more than half of each season. He could damn sure take over a game, however, if he wanted to. Cox's stats could have been much greater.

Chris Jones doesn't get a lot of attention (except for OL) because he is not a flashy pass rusher. He is a force in the middle that never lets up pushing the line backwards, giving the others a chance to make plays. Next time you see them, watch the difference in pressure or run defense when he is out of the game.

Nkmemdiche should have been something similar. Damned shame.
