New Mexico DC Cosgrove demoted to LB coach

New Mexico DC Kevin Cosgrove has been demoted to linebackers coach.

Rather than actually search out a new defensive coordinator, New Mexico will try to mend the unit internally, with S coach Jordan Peterson being slotted up to DC while Cosgrove takes a step down on staff. The Lobos ranked 119th in total defense during the 2018 season. It comes as no surprise to us that they're making a change, though the promotion of Peterson feels like a situation of shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic.

I actually think he's a pretty good LBer coach and he can recruit. FWIW a family member knew him in when he was in Lincoln and said he's a really good guy. It might be a little awkward at first for the new DC but this kind of stuff happens on offensive staffs all the time where a coordinator loses play calling duties and it doesn't seem to cause problems.

It's hard to forget the 8-10 yard wide holes the USC RB's had available to run through.
