i need a break from webex and shelter talk. Unbelievable that i spend almost all day 7 - 4 on one call after another. i'm busier now than before. Little secret: sometime i drink during working hours - seem to be a little more creative at times too.

i recently have been locked in to OF when i could go to restaurants. Assuming liquor stores are considered essential, what are some good at-home OF recipes?

Sorry I’m hogging the thread. Some purists use rye with their Old Fashioneds but I prefer bourbon.

I just go basic. About an oz of simple syrup. Few shakes of bitters. Bourbon/rye. Cherry on top

Drive to BR drop off a bottle of Bulleit Rye in a Brown bag with your phone number on it and $40 inside. He will call you in one week and your bottle of Bourbon will now be the best Damn Old Fashion you ever drank. Only it’s in the bottle. Just pour over the rocks and enjoy.

When I was in high school a good friend had keys to his parents convenience store, they had a Slush Puppy Machine! Slush Puppy syrup and everclear or Bacardi 151 was glorious.

Whatever is in that bottle is probably what started this whole pandemic

Nice thread because I’ve been drinking Old Fashioned nightly since last Friday. I’m pretty basic with with Woodford or Knob Creek over rock half glass, 2 splash bitters, then 5-6 orange bitters. And since I’m staying away from sugar I do pack of Stevia and water to top it. Simple and delicious.

2 oz bourbon (i prefer makers but many others are great. Don't go too expensive because those should be over rocks and that's it), 1 tbsp of simple syrup (this is the key. Get rich simple syrup or make your own), 2-3 dashes of bitters (angostura or GTFO), orange peel around the rim and dunk it inside. 2 ice balls and stir and enjoy.

Found some bitters that give it a little different kick from the standby Angostura (my usual go to). Made by Bittercube. I’ve tried the Blackstrap (cinnamon, Kola nut, Nutmeg) and the Bolivar (chamomile, jasmine, cinnamon, raisin). Both are excellent! They have others as well if you’re interested.

The cherry matters. These are my new favorite. I usually use bullitt or sazarac rye.\

He makes his own Bitters and own Sorghum Rock Candy that is the pulverized and blended in the bottle. I go through 1-2 bottles a month. For $60 it is a no brainer. It is fantastic.

We used to make something similar with in a big orange water cooler with three different liqours, 7-up, sherbet, cherries, and I can't remember the rest and end up fighting over the cherries in the bottom.

Every Christmas or New Years or Both.
