I don't know if many of us really realize what we've got in this guy. For the first time maybe ever, we've got a bonafide blue-chip quarterback, with the rating AND the offers. I didn't realize Alabama wanted him so badly. And he comes from a great family.

We really need to give Moorhead the benefit of the doubt going forward, to see what he can put together around him.

Man, Moorhead, in my opinion, got the benefit of the doubt last year. I wish he would start fixing some of the constant issues we have seen out of his team going on 16 games now. Just have a game where there are not 3 total dumbass things happen. Just one game, that matters. Not Abiliene Christian. This UK game can build up some of the "benefit of the doubt" stuff. Like always says, this weeks game because it is the next one.

Shrader is certainly a gigantic bright spot. He has looked ready from the first snap. I've been very impressed.

I was going to post this as its own thread but honestly, I have a theory that Moorhead lost a significant part of the fanbase when we didn't beat Florida last year. Everyone who follows our program wanted badly to win that game for obvious reasons and talent-wise we should've won it. Losing left a bitter taste in everyone's mouth. Until Joe accomplishes something truly special (like upsetting a Bama or UGA type team or winning the West) I think many fans are going to remember him as the guy that let Mullen walk off our field a winner. That's not totally fair to him, but I think it might be true.

That's probably very true. On the flip side, I'll always remember Dan Mullen for letting Cam Newton walk off our field a winner too.

Maybe this is why I'm in such agreement with a big change like this. We have a lot of soul-crushing memories even in the best of years. Why not go a different direction, at least for a few years.

It's true.

That game put him in a huge hole that must now be dug out of. The entire season would have been viewed differently if you win that game. You likely have a ranking and excitement going into this season, albeit potentially more than deserved. But in today's world, keeping that momentum and your name in the conversation is critical for sustained success....particularly for the small market schools like us.

Last year it seemed that had we not beaten Auburn, some were getting ready to light the fire and have JoMo burned at the stake. Luckily we won that game in fairly convincing fashion, but it almost feels like we're back to that point. After last week's showing, he'd better have some redemption against Kentucky. I have a feeling if we lose at all things are going to get bad, but especially if we lose unimpressively as we have in some of our last 16 games (Florida, Iowa, Kansas State)...

Everything is in our favor for this UK game. Just can't lose this game. UK is not very good. And Josh Allen is thankfully gone.

Add in:

RB: Witherspoon and the 4* freshman
OL: Smith, Dolla Bill, Cross and 3-4 others
DL: Lovett, Crumedy, Pickering

Then a host of others who have shined like Emerson, Purvis, etc. The 2018, 2019 and 2020 classes are all very solid.

That is why I have hope for the future.

If alabama wanted him badly and he ends up beating them, we'll be on probation by the end of that year
I'm sure they ended up dropping him because they signed two QBs in that class, one of which was Tua's brother. But the point remains that he's the type of QB that we've really never had.

38" vertical?! Wow, that's really impressive. Wonder if he plays hoops? *

Once he puts on about 20lbs of muscle and get more confident in his throws, he will be SEC ready. May take a season of learning though.

UK is not very good.

I heard the same thing about KSU, but found out otherwise when they rolled into town. I don't disagree that UK is not very good, but looking at what I saw last week, I can't say that we are either. If we allow UK to come in here and execute a game plan like we did with KSU, we're going to see similar results. Kentucky's backup QB made some mistakes, but performed admirably against Grantham's defense, and UK has some receivers that are going to cause us trouble if we play as tentatively on defense as we have been playing.
This game is really big for Moorhead, and unless we come out and play at lot more motivated and disciplined than we have been playing, things might start to get ugly. We'll see. I hope Moorhead can turn things around and maintain it.

I guess it's not making the required seal. **

As long as he plays with the effort he has so far, he can grow his beard however he wants as far as I care. Did he have the beard in high school when Joe recruited him?

He needs to learn how to throw a slant. He's thrown behind his target every time. He'll get better. Other than that, he's shown promise.

I think the 2018 season in general was tough to swallow. We gave up 12 TDs and lost 5 games.

There should be state and federal laws against that type of abuse.

Yeah. Right now, he's a young Nick Fitzgerald. That's not a bad thing, but he's got a long way to go in the passing game.

And the other QB was a descendent of Bear Bryant himself. Hard to say no to either of those QBs to pick up Schader if you are Bama.
