I don't get it.

I'm not saying that we looked like the second coming of the Cowboys OL, but we've got a pretty talented group out there.

Rankin is Rankin. Williams is a SO who was a 4* out of HS (stars seem to matter so much with many). Jenkins is a JR and he was rated as having the 2nd best pass block efficiency in the SEC for 2016. Calhoun is a veteran (JR) who was the 7th best OL out of Alabama his SR year of HS. Reese is just a freshmans, but he's a 4* (again, going with the star folks).

I'm pretty excited with this talent, and what they can do (if they stay healthy) this season, and next.

They didn't play well on Saturday. I think / hope they'll be fine, but they have a lot to work on.

It's amazing to me how we consistently have good offenses with such poor OL play as the experts on this board say we have. We put up 42 point in the 1st 35 minutes of the game. OL couldn't have played too poorly.

I would give the OL a C grade for that game. They should've manhandled CSU's DL. They allowed way too much penetration. That most likely will be the weakest DL we play. Not encouraging going forward.

Mullen was pretty critical of them today. A lot of problems at OC on saturday.

We have been led to believe that the OL will be a strength of this team & it was not on Saturday against a inferior competition. I think the issues are correctable. Reese saw his first playing time & the low snaps for Jenkins disrupted the offensive rhythm. Hopefully this group develops as the year progresses. We need to be a lot better against LSU.

It seems like our pass blocking was inconsistent

and Fitz had to catch the ball at his shins which took his eyes away from the field. I saw more bad snaps in our game than the other 14 teams I watched put together. I do have optimism this group can be pretty good though. We'll know a lot more after we face La. Tech's pass rush which is touted as being the best in the conference.

Maybe they will grow into a decent group this year. We'll see. People are speaking on what they saw on the field. It's ok for people to have concern after watching the game without being a negative Nancy. You said you don't get it but then used their high school accolades as a reason. Just from my perspective, it was frustrating watching dominance in most areas while some of the OL were just getting blown back on a lot of plays. The position just stood out compared to other groups.

Well folks are

always touting recruiting stars, so I just showed where that's not the case. I also showed Collegiate accolades. You can't have it both ways.

If you listened to

that and came away with "Mullen was very critical of the OL" you either are 1)lying about watching/listening 2) heavily medicated/drunk 3) have an extremely loose vocabulary 4) all of the above.

"There was some really quality, quality play."

"Some inconsistency, but that happens"

He makes various remarks about "some teaching moments."

I didn't take anything he said as being extremely critical.

Our O-line did not look very good, especially in the beginning. They vastly out-manned their competition, outweighing them by, I believe an average of 60 lbs. We should have blown that FCS D-line off the ball any and every time from the get-go, but we did not.

Eventually, their defense got tired because their own offense couldn't make a first down. They just got worn out by being on the field too much, and having to push against our, "kitchen appliances" as their coach called our guys.

We ran 86 plays compared to their 47. They did not have the talent or depth to keep up with us at all. We will not enjoy that kind of lopsided advantage again this year...and will be playing many teams that are the equal or better athletically and depth-wise. If our guys don't step it up in a big way, and soon, you are going to see why so many of us are concerned.

We are in the SEC, and most of our opponents are SEC. That O-line performance will not fly going forward.

He was critical of the OL play. As we're multiple posters in this thread. They weren't great on a Saturday.

Im hopeful they can get it rectified. I'll keep you updated on their progress.

It's really not uncommon for an SEC line to struggle some with a smaller, quicker line. In the SEC, they're used to bigvguys their size...against the app st.'s of the world, those smaller quicker guys stunting can cause a few issues.

Dude they averaged 5.6 YPC, gave up no sacks. You don't blow anybody off the ball in pass pro. Only state fans can melt down after a 49-0 *** whooping. It's crazy.

I just don't get the constant bitching of them.

Did the first string have a penalty all game? I only remember the backups getting a couple. Oh yeah, no sacks allowed.

As another pointed, we rushed for nearly 6 ypc.

When needed, on short yardage (3rd & 4th downs), we pretty much got it every time.

I'm not making us out to be the best OL in the country, but at the same time, they were far from bad or terrible.

You call my comments a "meltdown"? Really?? Give me a break!

Our YPC were inflated because we busted off a few really big ones. Nearly 1/3 of our rushing attempts were 3 yards or less, That should not happen vs an FCS team on any field, much less our own. And that doesn't get into the inconsistency on passing plays.

Only a sunshine-pumper could look at that performance vs a vastly over-matched opponent and feel pretty good about our O-line heading into a tough part of our schedule.

Im not looking at our performance from Saturday and saying "we finally got Bama this year!1"

However, I'm just saying it wasn't a bad performance.

We had our way running the ball Saturday, in short yardage situations.

From a rushing standpoint, it seemed like we were feast (24 rushes for 5+ yards) or famine (21 rushes of 2 yards or less). The second drive of the game was particularly bad from a rushing standpoint, as 5 of the 6 runs in that drive were 0 or 1 yard rushes.

Good breakdown of what we all saw Saturday. Couple in countless low snaps. Several ugly QB pressures. Several snap count issues.

Yeah, for sure.

The 29 rushes of 3 or more yards and 0 sacks w only the freshman having a couple of penalties certainly was a good showing. It'll be interesting to see them improve. Being successful on 60+% of your runs isn't too bad. Especially given the first game of the year with very vanilla playcalling.

I feel we took an outstanding guard and turned him into a mediocre center.

I saw a RT that's going to struggle against SEC DEs and he may struggle on saturday.

I saw a LG that got Bull rushed by an FCS opponent.

I saw a second unit that doesn't appear ready for this level.

And overall, I feel this is the one position group that has held our program back save 1 year.

So that's my concern. Hopefully I will be wrong.

The OL was my biggest concern before and after Game 1. They didn't look good, but I think OL is the unit that can improve the most with game reps. I'm hopeful they look better against LA Tech.

Yep. If they

can continue to run the ball like they did Saturday and protect Fitz the same, we will put up some great numbers.

see where I've been disproven that we ran the ball well Saturday and protected Fitz. Surely you have something tangible, other than relying on another message board posters' opinion?

Youre creating some straw man argument that I'm saying our OL will crush SEC opponents.

Arky gave up 2 sacks and averaged 5.2 ypc vs famu

Georgia gave up a sack and 6 TFLs and averaged 5 ypc

You don't wanna know kentuckys vs USM

Auburn gave up 3 sacks and averaged 6.6

LSU average 5.2 and no sacks given up.

Do you see a trend here? I guess everybody's OL sucks
