I thought Swid looked like a guy who had been sick all week. Maybe it’s just cope for that whoopin’ he took, but it’s hard to jive tonight with how he looked at the ASC.
Actually, I did not say it I typed it. Merrill turned disappointing, to a win in the last few seconds of the match. Got a clutch escape and takedown.
Merrill was being ridden, got an escape, faced his opponent, then got a TD.
They were reviewing if it was an escape/TD or reversal. Clear separation.

Possibly Stanford escape but that would be the difference between 5-3 & 5-4. Merrill would have won either way.

Doucette with a tech with about 6 takedowns. It might be that we will not with great accuracy be able to predict Doucette's matches, score.
He really needed that confidence boost. Had the look on his face like he was gonna let it go. Then out of nowhere with the speed to get the reversal
Doucet was so happy and coach smith even looked surprised on the TV
Stanford wrestlers looked so much bigger than our guys at most weights. Figs looked like a pup standing next to Knox. Some bright spots tonight but several questions to be answered at several weights.

That’s because figs up a weight. Vega, Robideau, Lockett true freshman. Facundo up a weight, Ryder up a weight.
Novice here, I’ve only been really watching us wrestle for a few years but really enjoying it. Hope you’ll don’t mind having someone green in here. Some observations through very inexperienced lenses:
-these freshmen are gangsters
-sparky as expected
-loved Vega’s fire and aggressiveness
-Robideau is absolutely terrifying. There’s nothing behind those eyes
-Dee hung in there and did what he needed to do
-Figs looked out of shape. His opponent was quirky, he’s a problem
-Casey.. idk. Looked out of it?
-Ryder a little underwhelming
-Alex, solid
-Cody.. shaky but great finish
-who is this guy and what did he do with Konner Doucet. Love the pace!
-we lack a lot of length

If so, makes a huge difference. Lost to a guy trying to fight through the flu 3-0 and then teched him 18-2 the next time we wrestled.
It’s due to Konner being willing to do what ever it took to be the HWT at DT’s OSU. He worked his a$$ off
Doucet didn't even look like the same guy as when I last saw him wrestle. Looked kinda like Hendrickson. I really would like to see him have a big year, looks like he worked for it.
Casey and. Zach would've been on different training cycles then the rest of the guys with the all star matches. Let's not start saying they were sick without thinking a little bit . They will be fine those were trap matches.
You’re probably right but I don’t think them coming down from something is that big of a reach. I agree they will be fine tho.

He looks completely changed. Looks like he's lost a lot of weight and more in line with a slimmer, more powerful HWT. More of a Hendrickson vs Schultz type comparison. Doucet wasn't as big as Schultz in 23-24 but wasn't as lean as Hendrickson was in 24-25.
They flashed the attendance of nearly 7600 on the board last night , good crowd
Physically, Spratley looks as good as he's looked in his time at OSU. Was razor sharp last night, and has that wild-eyed look that you need at that weight and for the task at hand.
Figs, not sure what to think. That match was WILD, all Funk. Thought Figs had the right strategy, came out hot and aggressive. Kudos to Knox for stabilizing the match and putting together the comeback. Did Figs get gassed? Also, I'm certain this will set off a firestorm, can't decide if he looks too small for the weight or not.
Vega, what can you say. Hard to imagine anyone beating him in the room. This is what is used to look like, and this is what it looks like at PSU - combine elite talent with elite program & coaching. Just a mauling.
Swiderski - someone said it, something looked way off, wrong with both him and Ryder. Completely lethargic, couldn't get anything going. Hate to see this coming off the big win the previous week. Will be interesting to see how he responds. Side note, Swiderski sort of resembles Teague Travis in the way he's built and moves around.
Robideau - see Vega, heard some insight into how the staff felt about Robideau, and was curious to see if the performance matched the hype. Too early to say the sky's the limit? Nothing like #4 overall for your 1st every collegiate match.
Lockett - was cool to see how much it meant for him to be out on the mat in Orange and Black. He was feeling it. He hasn't quite figured out his pre-match ritual yet, does he want to go more Hardell or Daton? Looking for his own signature. For those who have been following him for the past 5 years, sort of surreal to see him out there. Oh, and huge win BTW. Like Robideau, nothing like leading off and beating #4.

More offense in one match than in previous seasons! He's got his body in perfect shape, and has to bang heads with Wyatt every day. That does not mean he's going to be Wyatt or have Wyatt's gifts. What it does mean is, you have infinitely tougher days in training than in duals.

25 - expected! We talk about people getting broken…Tboy mentally broke that kid. He’ll need counseling.
33 - he’s gonna need some gas tank work if he’s going to compete up a weight. IMO, he’s better than Knox but he’s got to finish his attacks quicker and stronger or his season will be lackluster.
41 - Consiglio was a pretty stout recruit with some very good HS results. Vega made him look like somebody else. Very impressive debut.
49 - Not sure what it was, but he was gassed in the 2nd period. Valencia looked great. Disappointed for Casey, but he Wrestled bad after the first two minutes.
57 - WOW! Welcome to the F’n SHOW! True freshman, going against a very stout veteran and just destroyed him! My co-MVP from the dual.
65 - Dee better get locked in. Yes, pretty good D1 debut, but he’s better than Garvin in the talent column and he pretty much Wrestled not to lose. He didn’t have many attacks and seemed to gas until it was time to celebrate. He will figure it out, but if he wants to challenge the Top 2, he better get some offensive lungs.

I actually left feeling ok about Figs. He wrestled conventionally and looked quick and strong. Seems like he gassed and Knox obviously had him in the scrambles. This feels like a 6-10 place finisher.
Loved watching Vega wrestle at his potential. Still have some concerns about his strength but he put it on a kid that was too 35 big board in ‘24.
Equally perplexed about the Swiderski match. We’ll find out next Saturday. If Ski is as pissed off as I think he is and just had a bad night, we will see a beat down against Cornell. If that match is tight, then
.Robideau is such a stud. He’s going to be a problem at the weight. He has the hand fight and strength to give Duke all he wanted and the athleticism to beat Melvin Miller twice last year. To me, he’s a 4x AA, 1-2x NC caliber guy. Lives right, trains right, makes those around him better.
I think Dee has more ups and downs this year than Landon. AA floor this year though. Great to see him ride out the 2nd!
I thought Facundo looked fantastic! He very much looked the part of a high AA finisher to me. Will have the opportunity to prove it next week.
Thought last night was more indicative of how Zack normally wrestles than the Smith match. The Smith match showed the potential if he trusts and diversifies his offense. AA
Cody stumps me. My gut says we have a year similar to Surber’s last year. Hope I’m wrong. Actually loved the pace he came out with… the problem is it only lasted a minute. From all accounts, Posada is no slouch and kind of has the Mower body type so maybe that’s a component?
KD: LFG. Won’t know if he reverts back to a plodding defensive style against stiffer competition but that was fun to watch!
I’d put our AA over under at 6.5
Am I crazy for thinking that Robideau has 2-3 time NC potential?

Has the talent for sure. Has to deal with Taylor, Kasak and Shapiro next year. Waters for the next 3. I think Landon goes into his junior and senior years as the favorite (assuming he holds 157).
I’m no guru but him and Vega will be multiple time National Champs! If Dee gets his O going, he could also be a National Champ!
Figueroa looked winded. He should roll with Fix more and learn to counter those rides. Fix is the master at double boots
Ski and Ryder both looked slow. Probably due to wrestling at the all star classic
