If WVU was in the market for a proven HC (let's not kid ourselves, if you want to be a contender in big boy football then you cannot hire a coordinator for the job - we need a PROVEN HC), then who is at the tops of the list? Whatcha got.
Of course you basic premise is wrong. Every head coach was a coordinator before he became a head coach. Dana is the 37th highest paid coach, but he produces top 25 teams, so we’re getting good value.
Harbaugh is the highest paid coach. I don’t think he’d do well here. See coaches and salaries below.

Did we lose a HC? I thought we had one? Damn, miss a couple of days and all hell breaks loose. If WVU was in the market for a proven HC (let's not kid ourselves, if you want to be a contender in big boy football then you cannot hire a coordinator for the job - we need a PROVEN HC), then who is at the tops of the list? love your team and the coach....be careful what you wish forIf WVU was in the market for a proven HC (let's not kid ourselves, if you want to be a contender in big boy football then you cannot hire a coordinator for the job - we need a PROVEN HC), then who is at the tops of the list? Whatcha got.
No it's not. WVU is now at the point where our next HC should already be an HC and not have this be his first HC coaching gig.
WOW, read the entire group of posts and NO-ONE posted an answer to the initial question. Just goes tto show that a lot of loud mouths inappropriately ***** and moan about Dana, but none of them have a reasonable answer as to whom they would hire if he were not here. Amazing. Resembles the idiots screaming for tougher gun laws and then spout platitudes with no substance. We have plenty of laws (as we have a very good HC and staff) but the woeful idiots want to be heard and have nothing really to say. Why are ignorant people so very desirous of looking foolish by speaking volumes and yet saying nothing? If WVU was in the market for a proven HC (let's not kid ourselves, if you want to be a contender in big boy football then you cannot hire a coordinator for the job - we need a PROVEN HC), then who is at the tops of the list? couldn't agree more, who is out there better than Dana, who would even consider coming here. As much as I hate to admit it WVU is not a destination job for big time college coaches, Dana is a quality coach and the longer he stay's here the better he get's, and the better we get.WOW, read the entire group of posts and NO-ONE posted an answer to the initial question. Even worse, Dana is #7 in pay among Big 12 coaches. So who will WVU get that passes up 36 other better paychecks to come here, including 6 Big 12 schools paying their head coaches more? You can't just dump Dana without someone better in mind WHO WILL COME HERE for WHAT WE CAN PAY HIM. Nick Saban isn't coming either.Of course you basic premise is wrong. Who knows, but why insist on proving it with every one of your posts? Why are ignorant people so very desirous of looking foolish by speaking volumes and yet saying nothing?
I agree with you on all that, I just can't see firing a coach who just won 10 games, I see a lot of room for improvement. I think we need to think long and hard before we go switching coaches. But if after a couple of years we start to regress or stagnate then we need to think about it.I don't know about quality coach. I suppose it's subjective in many ways of the definition of what quality is in a coach.
He does some nice things, I like the fire in him albeit out of control at times. But he doesn't seem to fight at the end of certain games at times as in using timeouts instead of taking them home with him. There's been a few games in the past several years where we were down by more than one possession with three to four minutes left. Nearly hopeless but still. you don't quit like that. He took all three timeouts with him at the end. Inexcusable as far as I'm concerned.
Another thing, I like how he's adapted the running game more into his plans but there still seems to be that one track mind business of chucking it deep in either short yardage situations on 3rd or 4th down or when its 2nd and 18 like it was against TCU on that last possession. We needed first downs and nickel and dime them down the field. Now it's 3rd and 18 and almost completely behind the eight ball. He doesn't play to move the sticks enough.
Overall though, DH aside, I think our program is far advanced to the point we don't need to be hiring on the job training coaches anymore. Just as a general statement and not a shot at DH.
People keep talking about improvements. Yes, the record has improved each year for the past several but real improvement is to be consistent with 8 to 9 win seasons and the occasional double digit season. I know what our history says about wins but we've never been in this high profile of a conf. before.
DH has earned time but it's not limitless as far as I see it.
No, I’m happy with the status quo.I notice you are afraid to say who you’d suggest.
Joe Moorehead PSUBret Bielema
That situation he inherited in Fayetteville was a total mess. His only mistake was taking the job but I have to say he did a much better job than expected.
Losing LSU as a rival and the entire Petrino situation kicked Arkansas in the gut
Brown-Troy
Forgot his first name but he is a Kentucky guy.
I believe Danville Do not know how near to WV that is but he played football at UK
Campbell Iowa State
The ever funny screw a conference rival.
This would be good for WVU to create some hatred in Ames. He is a great coach. More importantly he is from Ohio. Has a lot of connections in the state
Rocky Long SDSU
Older guy so that may be a minus
Major Applewhite Houston
It looks like he is a decent head coach. Familiar with Texas recruiting
Chad Morris SMU
Same situation. Inherited a program that June Jones could not even win at
Joe Moorehead PSU
Jimbo Fisher. Now's the time.....

Patterson never had HC experience before taking over TCU. But he had 18 years as an assistant coach.
Lincoln Riley never had HC experience but is now OU HC.
Kliff Kingsbury never had HC experience is now at TTU
Major Applewhite never had HC experience is now HC at Houston
Tom Herman was never an HC until Houston
Many first year HC in Big 12.and many other teams.
I'll stick with Holgorsen as he grows to a HC as this takes time as it does building a national program top 10.
Jimbo Fisher. Now's the time.....
Let's ask another question here.
How bad of a season does FSU's have to have to fire Fisher. Better question is how many consecutive horrible seasons does Fisher have to have.
I doubt that Fisher would ever leave FSU for WVU even if 10 million dollars was offer.
Might as well say Saban. Isn't Saban a WV native
I'm are you are attempting humor, but, if this is an example of the quality coming from you, don't start turning down your welfare check.RRod.
Have you noticed a change in tempo with WVU.
I haven't watched them enough this year to notice.
A lot of schools in the Big XII this year especially UT and TCU are attempting to use most of the play clock.
UT is doing it because their run game is a mess because of OL injuries.
Tech tried to play slow at times and run the Ball against Okie Lite because of Mason Rudolph.
I think coaches like Mike Gundy who refuse to change tempo will be pushed out of the Big XII soon.
Because if every team runs up tempo then up tempo becomes the speed of the game. To control the game now you must slow down tempo.
I think the Big XII is slowly undergoing another transitional phase on offense
