I understand there are rumors Holtman is on the hot seat. Which I think is silly. I looked up OSU previous coaches and their records. They canned Matt’s after two non NCAA years. Talk about a short leash. Rutgers would have a statue of Matta with his success.

Sensibol is Ohio State best shooter but he is playing limited minutes. He might not be be at Ohio State next season and Holtman clearly is on the hot seat.

Matta resigned because of health concern.

OSU is about as bad a job coaching as you will see. He’s in deep trouble.

OSU should be 2-9 in the B1G without the ref gift. They are an absolute disaster this season.

He is rightfully on the hot seat. OSU fans wanted him gone weeks ago when I stalked their board. I'm going to have to take another look now but I can imagine the pitchforks are out in full force

Unless there is something going on besides just the pure results, I don’t think it is “rightful”. Firing him after this year would be pretty absurd imo but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen. I understand why the fanbase might use the logic you are giving in your post, I just don’t think it is really the right logic

Just bc you are on the hot seat doesn't necessarily mean you'll be fired, but he hasn't won anything at OSU. No regular season or tournament titles and no final fours

I don't think he has ever won his conference as a head coach

Keep in mind OSU has a rich bball tradition with the 6th most final four appearances. Kcg88 just pointed out the last 2 OSU coaches got there

I don’t expect a fanbase or administration to think the way I do. But imo focusing on tournament success is foolish.

I don’t think he’s very good personally, but I also prefer him there vs. someone like Shrewsberry who with the school name and bball history would be close to a lock to get them into where we and Illinois are now, at least.

Their AD came out publicly defending him a couple days ago, said he's their "coach of the future"

What rumors?

He is making 3 or 4M per year to lose in 2nd round where they should compete for final fours. I think firing is fair game

I don't think he'd get fired for that, but no Sweet 16 and then going 5-15 in the Big Ten will get you some heat.

Depends why you lose in the 2nd round. If it’s because you never have one of the 16 best teams, sure. If you take a few tough tournament losses at the end of otherwise top level seasons then firing is foolish.

I mean if the true expectation is final fours he’s obviously not living up to it so sure

The talent is there, but the chemistry won't be there this year. Only 2 players, Key and Sueing, are back from last year's team, 21-22. Their fans are delusional if they thought otherwise to suggest Holtmann would perform miracles this year. It's not a coincidence that the teams at the top of the standings are teams that kept all or most of their players from the portal.
