This ain't a PETA issue but we've got to be smart enough to keep the dog out of harm's way on the sideline. Pissed me off when it happened.

Probably wouldn’t have happened had we tackled the guy before he made it to the endzone instead of after. ***

Isn't the mascot basically a pet of the handler? Doesn't the handler own and care for the dog?

Yes, I agree. Jak should have been directly in front of the stands near the wall by our fans. There's no reason for him to be halfway out to the field.

Jak is by far one of the most benign mascots that PETA could be complaining about, among those worse are LSU's tiger, Arkansas's wild hog, and Auburn's use of an American Bald Eagle. Thank goodness OM couldn't find a live landshark ....

I agree with you on this.

Had some friends that were going to adopt a young dog, from a shelter. (good people)

When quizzed where they lived, which was on a highway but actually back off of it. (but a country area) and they did not have a fence.

They were turned down. They had rather euthanize, than give the dog a chance at a good life.

^^^THIS^^^. And I'm not just referring to mascots but anybody that would stand that close to a football field knowing that the action may come your way is just plain stupid.

How many bulldogs are living the good life right this very second BECAUSE their owner is a Mississippi State (or I guess a UGA) fan, and specifically chose them?

Keenum's response might should be: "You're welcome."

The Bulldog was the only one to get a decent hit on that running back all night.

Even though he didn't get a hit on Boobie, Jak definitely showed good form and was low and ready for his defense. Our DL should take note of Jak's form in the pic. I'm sure Boobie was thinking "Is this dog really gonna bite me?".

I'm glad he is ok and didn't get pinned against the gate. Might need to hire some "Bully" bodyguards from here on out. A couple of walk-on linemen should do the trick.

Bully did a better job of slowing down Auburn players than our players did.

What an ignorant, virtue-signaling, arrogant moron.

So, Marta, the alleged purpose of your letter is to get the President of Mississippi State University to sympathize with you and make the change you desire, and you decide the best way to do this is to insult him and our university in your close? Really?

"May we please have your assurance that you will bring Mississippi State into the 21st century by giving Jak the retirement he deserves and pledging not to use real animals as mascots?"

So, Marta, you not only consider us dumb hicks to be at least 19 years "late to the party" that is the 21st century, but you also, in your superior intelligence, think your best way to convince us we need to change is to insult us.

Yeah, you're a smart one, alright.***

Several years ago I remember a game in which I think it was Auburn as well? But not against us.. anyway, Auburn receiver catches a touchdown pass deep in the end zone and it carries him against the wall. There stood an officer with his k9, in which the k9 lunged and bit the receivers hand. He got lucky he didn’t get more of the bite. I wonder if anyone still has that video.

The purpose of the letter (since it was issued as a press release before it could have ever reached Keenum) is to generate publicity and donations. This organization exists to provide employment to otherwise unemployable people.

Allow me to quote from the article:

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—opposes speciesism, which is a human-supremacist worldview.

Speciesism.
