Speed and Motor are still something we need to see improve. I trust the staff has a plan to maximize those things.
Two traits that are partially genetic of course but can also be trained to max out a kid’s potential.
The effort level was far better last year in my opinion compared to other recent years, but still too much film showing guys not giving it their all on every play.
That’s a mentality that can get some attention this off season.

I think those qualities are things you look for in a recruit. My younger brother was always played great defense. He seemed to have a nose for the football. Joao has it. Nelson has it. I hope Mauga has it. But I get what you are saying.

I sure hope this isn't over hyped like last year, our OL looked pathetic to start the season.
Call me out if you want but I'm just not super hyped up over what looks like a bunch of photos of them doing field drills together thrown together on a computer screen.....just looks like they're putting up a subtle status update on twitter. That should not be looked at as hype.

We're not seeing as many pictures or videos as we did this time last year.

This time last year we were all drunk from the kool-aid, I think Frost and Co. are dialing the social media posting back A LOT, as they should.

Sure, we're going to get better but so are 10 other Big 10 teams. Our players have to get better and our gameday coaching does as well.

I might just think a little differently but I'm not worried about what everyone else is doing. We have zero control over that. As long as we get better each day and control what we can control in our own building, that's about all we can ask for realistically.

Yep, I think they learned their lesson. They were trying to get the fanbase energized, and pumped up. It worked a bit to well and probably made everyone's expectation unrealistic. Hype is all fun and good. You can show 1,000 videos of guys running and lifting and team building. It doesn't' mean anything if you go 4-8 and 5-7.

I could type out a really long response to this but let me first say this, I'm a nobody. To the world of Husker football and Husker athletics, I'm not important. What I do have that I think very few people on this board have is a unique experience, I explained this to I think only one other poster, is that I've not only been an athlete in Husker Power about 5ish years ago now, but I also coached it for 2 years. I learned A LOT, and there is just so much to it that is almost too much for a message board, but it is a great conversation. Sure, I'm somewhat biased. But yeah I also know it works. I think this new 2020 class will be the ones to benefit the most from it because I'd assume the strength staff isn't holding anything back anymore like it was noted that they have been because the team just wasn't in good enough shape yet to handle it. It's hell
You are an athlete in Husker power and coach it? What does that mean exactly?

Some of that I suspect was to try to drum up excitement on the recruiting end of things. I think Frost and his staff are caught up with recruiting now to the point that meaningless posts about the weight room aren't necessary to try to pump up the base and recruits.

"Was on both" Long story short, and I'll explain further if you want me to but I did it through X-Edge in Omaha with Zach's brother, Gib. Zach opened it and ran it for a while like 15 years ago or something like that. X-Edge is a simplified version of Boyd Eppley's Husker Power that we've all come to know and love. I was an athlete in it during my Sophomore year of high school in 2008-ish, when a lot of the Eric Crouch era Huskers were strength coaches there, and then did it again for like 2 and a half straight years in my early 20s for baseball. Did wonders for me. Gave up baseball, started real life and was a strength coach there for another 2 years before my now wife decided she hated the hours and wanted me around more. Absolutely loved every minute of it though, sometimes wish I still could go back to it. For my credibility disclaimer, I was actually Ben Stille's lifting partner during on of the camps back when he was still in high school. I also helped to coach/train Ben during I believe his freshman year at Nebraska for a 4 week camp that he did. Can't remember what time of year it was. Haven't been around him for a few years since I've been out of it but he's a really good dude.

Simple, access to internet has made recruiting, marketing, advertising, knowledge much easier and quicker. Every program knows exactly what the others are doing and can easily copy their system. They can easily reach recruits. Most games and teams are also on TV now. Again that helps get their name and brand out there. Back then it was only the top few teams. Now yes money still plays a factor. Obvious a team like Nebraska who has access to better funds can do a bit more than a place like South Dakota St. The advantages they had in the 90s are much much smaller now.
This is also why I think we are seeing more and more "upsets" compared to the 70s- 90s. Why we are seeing more G5 type teams breaking into the top 25 even top 10.
I don't think a lot of those advantages hold true through the 90s, yes definitely the 70s and most of the 80s.
