This is the first time in a long time RU is competitive. Let’s face it, some games we are going to get the whistle (see Purdue) and some games we’re not. I don’t know what it is, but no sport has worse officiating. It’s annoying, but after yesterday’s game, we have to ignore it.

The inconsistency of the whistles is my biggest problem. It shouldn't be a guessing game as to what causes a foul. If they're going to call touch fouls like they did in the 1st half, it's not fair when they're hacking the **** out of us under the hoop in the 2nd without any whistles. I get game to game differences with different crews, but it shouldn't change from half to half. Aggressive defenses get penalized unfairly.

Rewatched the game last night and we just got hosed again by the refs time and time again we got hammered on our drives and nothing called;
But one of the biggest missed calls was the play where we pressured the out of bounds in the first half and the Michigan player saved the pass from going out of bounds and threw it back in to the other Michigan player only problem there was the guy who saved it was in the front court and the guy he threw it to was in the back court so that should have been a back court violation refs just completely missed this. Now why was this missed call so big because as a result of the missed call Myles Johnson picked up his second foul on the play. And there were at least 5 other terrible missed calls against us.
I know this is not the reason we lost as our defense was poor I think our lack of coaching adjustments against wide open 3’s and the pick and rolls was horrible and of course we couldn’t shoot a lick !!!
But it just appalls me how many calls referees miss in a game

"Poor" Defense, couldn't shoot a lick, yet it was a 2 point game with under a minute left.

I don't think it's inconsistent at all. It's not a guessing game. The home team will get calls in conference. The road team will not. It's a disgrace, but it's not unpredictable at all.

On the play were Johnson got his second foul, The receiving player left his feet in the back court but landed in the front court. If he left his feet out of bounds and landed inbounds, he would have been considered out of bounds. However, I don’t know if that rule applies to front court /backcourt. Do you know the rule on that?

No idea what the rule is on the front court back court situation. All I know is, the second that play started, I knew Myles was about be called for some horse crap foul. And sure enough, he was

I usually don’t like to complain about the officials...but we were very physical and aggressive on offense...including a high 26 offensive rebounds and took an INCREDIBLE number of shots (83!!!) and only got five free throws ?!?!?!?

The 14-18 foul shots attempts we didn’t get cost us the games from the zebras

The refs usually reward the teams that take it to the hole and make the extra pass to an open player, and penalize the teams that settle for outside shots and drive the lane against 3 defenders.

that is not their job.. and stats from Michigan game showed that did not really happen. We had so many put-back opportunities where they hammered us and no call. No over-the-back, etc. And them getting so many open looks would suggest fewer foul shots for them.. instead they shot 19 more FTs than we did... and we had.. what.. 39 more shots? That's crazy.

83 shots and 5 FTs doesnt add up.

Refs will always be bad bc it's a hard sport to ref. The frustrating thing as a player is consistancy. There have been many games where the refs completely change how they are calling fouls mid game. That is ridiculous

yep...we did get hosed, but it's part of the rebuild back to respectability. everyone tries to make it black and white..."it's not why we lost"...there is rarely ONE REASON for a loss. but it's a factor. especially in a game that came down to 1-2 possessions at the end. Same with the road game at Iowa. It's a factor. A potential game changing factor.

as we continue to become a valid top 20-30 team, this BS will happen less and less.

while it's frustrating, I get it, and know that over time it will dissipate.

What burns my balls is people who won't acknowledge it...that just grinds my gears.

I know this will be an unpopular opinion, but there are at least 8-10 instances in a game that don't involve officiating calls, that impact the outcome of the game. I always hate the default excuse of "the officials robbed us from winning that game." Yes there are some calls that are not correct, but they're not the ones missing shots or turning the ball over.

End of game Michigan is an example, as Rutgers settled for trying to take a tough 3, instead of trying to go inside and get the 2, then put Michigan back on the line to extend the game. High risk, high reward.

And to pre-empt all the backlash..I'm not an official..nor am I Patriots fan.

not unpopular, and I respect that.

I think that many here will tell you we WERE taking it to the tin and not getting the calls.

but yes, we took some BAAAAD shots on Sat. no doubt.

here's the thing...both things can be true.

it's not a zero sum game.

I would refine some of my earlier remarks to suggest that I don't think we got "jobbed" as they say.. it wasn't as blatant as what some of those Big East refs used to do... which seemed to be to make sure the NAME teams (with a chance of earning tourney money) didn't lose to a "Rutgers". On the football side I wonder if that happens in the Big Ten because we could be well on the path to losing yet see dominant teams like OSU get "help" from refs when they do not need any help.

The Michigan game calls and non-calls just seemed weird. There was one ref who I thought might be biased.. was too quick to call fouls on Myles.. and he saw out of bounds by Michigan as out on us... stuff like that. But most of the time I see what I think is a "bad call" or miss I can view the replays and look to see where the ref is and guess what he might be able to see or not see and that explains it..

Like a non-call on Simpson badly hooking Myles to get around him. The closest ref probably could not see it.. but the one opposite him should have seen it. The ref underneath.. he's usually look away from the ball. But there were non-calls on a lot of contact in the pain with us.. and while I hated it, I also think if they started calling more fouls they would have given Michigan more calls too.

The calls against us that drive me nuts are the ones where our guy has position in front of the basket with his hands up (no swatting or initiating contact by our guy) and the offensive player initiates slight contact while our guy doesn’t take the bait and STILL gets called for a foul. This happened 4 or 5 times against UM and led to a number of and 1s.

How do you even adjust for that let alone defend that? Might as well just not play D at all and give up the basket.
