The main college football transfer portal window for all FBS and FCS players is January 2–16, 2026. This single, 15-day window replaces previous December and spring (April) windows and opens shortly after the College Football Playoff quarterfinals. There is also a separate, 15-day window for players at programs that undergo coaching changes, starting on the day the coaching change is official.

Key details of the new transfer window
  • One main window: The NCAA has consolidated the transfer window into a single period in January for all undergraduate athletes, which starts on January 2, 2026.
  • Eliminated spring window: The traditional spring window in April has been eliminated.
  • Timing: The January window begins on January 2, after the College Football Playoff quarterfinals are typically completed.
  • Graduate transfers: Graduate transfers are now also required to enter the portal during this January window, whereas before they had more flexibility.
  • Coaching changes: A separate 15-day window is available for players at schools with coaching changes, beginning the day the new coach is announced or the change is official.
  • Enter the portal: Players only need to enter their name into the portal during the window; they can take more time after that to make their final decision about transferring, according to CBS Sports.

Needs per Bruno:
1. DT starter and depth
2. WRs, doesn’t matter. We just need WRs
3. CB starter and depth. I think we are better here than most with our young guys coming up. But we could always use a good CB or two coming in.
4. OL starter and depth, particularly an OT. I am actually pretty confident with the young guys on the IOL but wouldn’t mind a starting level caliber player there too.
5. Safety if Koen leaves, if not a depth piece back there would be nice.

I don’t think the team NEEDS any portal starters per se. I suspect they will heavily focus on depth and multi year guys to develop instead of getting bonafide starters

For DL they have Merrieweather, Allen, Hawthorne, and Epenesa. One of those guys will have to move inside- but there’s a starting 4 that we can run with.

On the OL little jones is waiting in the wing, Myslinski is back on an injury redshirt, and Dotzler can move from LT to RT.

LBs will be Reis, Buffington, and Montgomery.

Lee returns, Watson starts the other side. I think Godfrey might drop back and take X’s spot.

The returning receivers won’t we worse than what we’ve got, and they’re young at least with maybe some potential. Hecklinski and brown are ready to duke it out at starting QB.

I think they could rock with the current roster, continue their own development, and be fine TBH. Though I certainly won’t say no to any bonafide starters coming in. Except for WR, they need someone good. At least ISM caliber.

I actually like the ceiling of Allen and Merriweather more than what Llwellyn and hurkett had and they were solid ones. Then we have our other young DEs coming up. I am very confident on the edges.

I am going to trust Phil here when he talk s his young LBers he has. Excited to see Reis next year.

I do like our CB room right now but If we can upgrade there I would too with the type of WRs we play. We have good depth there currently.

The reason I say we need a really good OT is because we need to protect our QB. We suck horribly at passing but if we can keep investing at LT I think that would help the cause bigly. It would be great if we have a guy on the team that will be that OT next year and if we think we do then get some high level depth there.

This brings me to my next point, let’s keep developing Brown and Hecklinski and our other guys. This is what we need to do in our QB room before we can demand high level QBs to come here. But to make this work we need to invest at LT and our WRs. If we have a good LT waiting in the wings then push more into WRs.

Also would love a Playmaker anywhere whether that is at TE, WR, PR/KR, or RB (we are good here)

We're 5 deep at RB

Patterson will be a Sr
Moulton a Jr
Washington a Jr
Williams a Soph
McNeil a Soph

Does anybody leave? Would hate to lose McNeil. He has potential.
I would imagine 1 or 2 but I would have thought Jaz would have left by now. Jaz, Moulton, and McNeil will be top 3 so maybe the other 2?

Sure you can. I buy season tickets, concessions, don't need my paltry money to buy college kids. And BTW, it makes you look stupid when you say.. fact... about something that is completely not a... fact.
Or don't know how to use then instead of than

If you don’t help with NIL than you can’t ***** about lack of personnel; fact
More of this nonsense. Just because some folks have been suckered into giving their hard earned funds to high school and college kids to play a game WHEN their sharing in 20 million dollars in rev share and have REAL NIL opportunities should they be marketable, doesn't mean we are all being duped. But you feel free to burn yours up for no good reason. I'm sure you'll get thank you letters from each player....

Iowa lacks a back that can take it to the house so wouldnt care if any left if it means they get a rb in the portal that has the homerun threat

If you don't want to give to NIL, then no judgement from me. However, you come across as a dbag by implying that you do enough to help the program by "giving" money to season tickets and concessions.
When "Swarm" people tell me that I can't complain about results if I don't give money to their Pay For Play plan it's rather ironic to call it NIL.

Two can play that game, sir.

Dont all the players get paid now and if that is so then we only need big nil for the big transfers.

Get the NIL from big business who want to do some Caitlyn Clark type commericals.

Hoping he might be the next CDJ/Wetjen return guy as well. Although theres more to those plays then just speed, instincts and courage come to play as well.
What about Safety?. I did not follow Doll’s HS career so no clue if he has or can play D but Safety is one spot where speed is a huge asset (right behind instincts/smarts)

Iowa has the OLine humming now 2 years in a row and they are Joe Moore finalists so I could see a proven younger OTackle wanting to portal in to fill Dunkers shoes at RTackle and you might not need to pay super big money because that player increases their chances of making the NFL.

A 300 lb really good run stopping DTackle from the portal would be excellent Xmas present.

Otherwise I think you are correct as TEnds should be very good with Ostrenga coming back. PhilP just molds really good DBAcks out of clay somehow and they have some experience there.

A fast, athletic, proven 6 foot+ WR would be grand

For WR it is interesting. I do think these young guys in the system will take a nice step if they stay. I would imagine a couple leave because that’s been a trend for the hawks but with Lester who knows. Here are returning WRs:
