SVP is doing well in pushing back at Bilas, who is being ridiculous, but SVP didn't take the next critical step in logic, which is that not only was Louisville on probation for dirty recruiting, but Bowen (a star recruit) just fell into Louisville's lap right before the season. That is why there is no way in the world you can argue that he shouldn't have known. Bilas looks really bad trying to say "reasonable minds can differ" on that point.

This whole interview is just a "poor, pitiful me" response for the most narcissistic coach ever. It's beyond ridiculous for him to think the world(outside of those that adore him) is going to believe him

Jay Bilas is proving to be the ACC, and their coaches, biggest suck up for the past 5 or so years.

P.S. -- I thought Bilas did all he could do during the interview, given the circumstances. But then he ruined it completely in this interview with SVP, as I discussed in my post above. Bilas looked really bad.

Agree. I almost gagged at the end when Pitino suggested by the time you hit 50 you can't help but develop humility. That guy wouldn't know humility if his life depended on it.

I do think it more likely Rick didn't know about the latest issue, vs the hookers in the dorms. But then again, I find it hard to believe an assistant coach would work out a $100k deal with a shoe company, without his head coach have giving the "green light". As an assistant, the risk/reward seems pretty high to just land 1 specific recruit.

Maybe its not that Rick said, go out and get Bowen and use Addias to funnel $100k to him. But at some point, I bet Rick gave some private direction to his assistant coaches, to "do whatever it takes" to land recruits, but I just can't know about it.

Jay Bilas has lost all and any credibility he ever had with his commentary on this interview along with the UNC scandal.

He erroneously stated that AD's and Presidents should also have strict liability not mentioning that both of those positions were terminated at UofL. Also, he sure didn't hold UNC's coaches, AD and President under that same scrutiny.

He is nothing more than a puppet!!

just some random thoughts....Pitino looks like a reanimated corpse.....they kept showing close-ups of Pitino and his eyes were all red...i assume Bilas was blowing him during the closeups.....Pitino said he didnt even believe the his assistant was guilty and yet he's suing Adidas??? The only person Pitino said he had to answer to was his god...did he mean Jurich?? I've seen Pitino in hundreds of interviews and press conferences and he just comes across as so disingenuine....just a cheap con artist. Love SVP and he did grill Bilas pretty well but Bilas will always defend coaches...wish SVP had done the interview.

Which makes Old Rick responsible.

How are people still acting like Pitino was not implicated? According to the FBI complaint, "Coach 2" called Gatto to discuss getting money for the recruit. You can choose to turn a blind eye to that testimonial evidence, but to act like there is no evidence out there is absurd.

He broke the 7th and last 9th commandment. Thou shall not commit Adultery and thou shall not bare false witnesses. I doubt God likes that.
Which might be the reason why his life is sucking right now...not that I'm perfect in any way...I'm just sayin'...be careful when you start throwing God's name around Rick.

Looks that way. Pitino is Coach 2 and Larranaga is likely coach 3.

Pitino just looks weird when he talks. I guess to drive home his points he moves his head constantly. Looks like one of those dogs people used to have in their back window of their cars with the dogs head on a spring. The guy looks defeated. Looking back it’s funny how he preached to us about setting a program back 10 years which is exactly what he has done to UofL.

another weird thing....when Bilas asked about the lawsuit he filed against Adidas, Pitino said something like they have to take responsibility for their employees like I have take responsibility for two of mine...i assume referencing the assistant in Hooker-gate and the other assistant in the vegas hotel room....Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the Birds appealing the NCAA ruling from Hoooker-gate citing that Pitino wasn't aware and then isn't Pitino also suing Adidas because in coordination with his assistant coach they were paying players to go to U6.....in what world is this Pitino taking responsibility for his assistants??

Hate to say this but I don't see him living much longer. If he ends up not coaching again and gets caught up more in the FBI case it just might be the last nail in his coffin.

Joe P didn't last long after his career ending scandal

RP won't be coaching again IMO. Hopefully he'll take a REAL LOOK in the mirror and decide to turn his life around. I like to poke fun at him because of the way he's acted these last several years but I do respect the fact that he helped pull UK BB out of the mud...but that doesn't excuse what he's been doing at UofL...The dude has some issues that he needs to resolve.

just checked some dirty birds forums just to see their response to Pitino's interview, here are a few responses:

Man...it was hard watching the interview with Jay Bilas and seeing the pain in Rick's face. Sad, sad, sad situation. I couldnt help but feel terrible for the man. I hope he finds peace soon so the stress doesnt eat him alive and ends up affecting his health.

I believe him too. He is hurting. You can see it in his face. I just think he had the bad luck of hiring two awful assistants after a string of 50+ good ones over the course of his career.

I believe him. I will always be a fan of Rick Pitino. That championship year was a hell of a ride I'll always be grateful for.

Yet there still many here who believe he's lying. Jay Bilas said it best. To paraphrase, "Ask any parent if he knows what his kids are up to at all times."" Yet we have those who will pound their firsts in defiance shouting, "It was his job to know everything!" As a parent, myself, I think I'm pretty clear on what Jay was saying.

poor little rick.....

That was painful to watch. Pitino looks TERRIBLE!!!! :scream:

Pitino said something like, "I worship the ground my players walk on. Both past and present. Like David Padgett, they are like sons to me. I told them not to contact me because this is Padgett's team now."

He also said he takes full responsibility for his assistant coaches, but hasn't quite figured out why the Board of Trustees locked him out of his office. "The UofL that I LOVE isn't the one that I know. The Board of Trustees were appointed by the governor."

Basically just said they didn't know what they were doing.

He also said he turned his phone records over to the FBI VOLUNTARILY. I'm guessing the subpoena had nothing to do with it? Perhaps this was taped before he knew the world would be aware there was a subpoena issued quite a while ago?

Rick is such a religious man maybe he should go into the Priesthood. Then he could really answer to God like he says he does...or whatever god it is that he believes in.

He reminds me of that scumbag Hugh Freeze always making references to God when asked questions. Like he seems more trustworthy because he believes in God and makes references about God. You're not fooling us Rick.

Bilas really sold out near the end. Would you hire Rick Pitino? He says he would consider it. WTH? Then he goes on to put ADs and Presidents on blast for them not taking responsibility for the coaches they hire. News flash: They just got canned too. Too funny. I really expected more from Bilas.
