If it’s Spavital, TU football is done. I can’t believe they would make hire so foolishly.
If it was Spavital, they would have already announced it. Doubt Spavital, considering he doesn't have that many suitors. If it's Spavital it would be announced on Wednesday at the earliest, and would be because he was their 3rd or 4th choice, and everybody else got scooped up by other programs.

I hope you’re right.

Stupid dyslexia, I read "no" as "on", thought that was bravely honest.
No, the guy was probably just bitter because BA wasn’t in the semi-finals as usual, but he wouldn’t let us in the gate because it was after halftime and they were no longer selling tickets.

I tried to explain that my daughter was playing in the band and that we had just came from the Tulsa - Southern Miss game that evening but he wasn’t having any of it at all.

We walked over to the visitor’s side and right in through an open gate. He apparently didn’t know who he was dealing with.

Guy sounds like a d*^k. Who keeps a father from seeing his daughter play? I would've pocketed your $20 and let you in :)

Loren Montgomery really should be getting more tread on here. The dude could pull all that sod farm money for NIL.

Sounds like the handlers for BTW's band. One tried to tackle after their season finale. Was as successful as TU's defense. Whiff!

How do you even waste time interviewing Spavital and not Marion? Ridiculous. Disappointing.
I don't think Marion has anything to do with it. Should just be "How do you even waste time interviewing Spavital". I'm fine with him getting a second chance but it should be at an FCS or DII school. He's never been associated with an excellent team, excellence is not part of his background or something he's experienced. We tried "nice guy but never all that successful, maybe he can up his game after we hire him" with Konkol, you only play that card once.

It sounds like they know who it is. With signing day tomorrow, why do you think it hasnt been announced? Or have they not decided? Search over thread indicates they know.

Remember...

As quick as Barry Odom was the favorite to land the head coaching job at Tulsa, he’s just as quickly out.

KOTV sports reporter Jonathan Huskey said Arkansas’ defensive coordinator and Tulsa could not come to terms on a contract agreement, ultimately sending Odom’s chances, outside of a midnight miracle (so to speak) by the wayside.

Just realized this is an old article. Honestly, Odom feels like another Wilson retread type, even with the success at UNLV right now. Didn't he get fired at Mizzou for basically being what Wilson was at Indiana? That said...is UNLV's success due to him or to Milkman?[/url]

Yeah, he's the response to the retread argument. Or do we oppose retreads even if they put together winning teams? They're 10-2 and lost the 2 games by a total of 8 points. I'd take him.

My point here, though, was that we got ahead of ourselves last time around and let word out that Odom was the guy and then Odom wasn't the guy and we looked like idiots, and then Wilson was the guy but then maybe Wilson wasn't the guy bc he was pissed that he was our second choice, but then we cuddled him and he got ok with it. Let's avoid that again. I remember at the time thinking that it was possibly the worst managed hiring process I'd ever seen.

No thank you on Loren Montgomery. Everything is pointing to him knowing about the hazing and sexual assault on his player. Then keeping it internal and trying to brush it aside. Not once but twice.

The worst may have been the hiring of Gragg as Athletic Director at The University of Arkansas and announced on all media outlets and the subsequent cheers from our message board. The Arkansas Board of Trustees somehow heard about this and rescinded the offer. Gragg came unenthusiastically back to TU.

You nailed it. Gragg was a terrible hire that Tulsa is still paying for.

As I've explained several times in Hurricane Alley since the search began, reliable sources told me Marion has not been a serious candidate in this coaching search, just as he wasn't two years ago.

Seriously, I only come back to the board to maintain my miserable outlook towards TU athletics and the 80s/90s pop culture references I can relate to. I always enjoy when a thread jumps the shark and becomes nothing more than a bunch of Seinfeld quotes. Those always make me laugh

Symons pulled his name from consideration I'm told. Feels like they are scrambling and have to almost start back at the beginning at this point.
"Pulls name from consideration" often means "I have been told I am not getting the job."

I’m fine with that. Didn’t want an SMU DC. They are winning from NIL. Will struggle without the treasure trove of capital at SMU.

In this case, saw the NIL issues and other University issues and declined. But you are right, sometimes that's the case. He wanted the job, I was told. There is a systemic problem at 800 S Tucker that is being exposed.
