Let us deeper dive into the Cheats last year. They were in last year even if they lose to Duke at Duke. I am sorry, no way does a team go from bubble to an 8 seed on simply beating Duke at Duke. There was NOTHING on the Cheats resume that suggests anything else.
If you look at the Cheats in the NCAA Tournament, it was the definition of house money. There are two times they had pressure in the tournament and they folded like cheap suits. First is against Baylor. They jump up big on no pressure, Manboy gets tossed, and the BUCKLE. All the pressure was switched on the Cheats and none on Baylor. When they go to OT, it switches back. No one knew what would transpire when seeding the Cheats, but they had the easiest road to the final four in the modern era. I do not know who was pleasing the basketball gods for the wussy blue, but my god.
Cheats lose in the FF if it wasn’t Duke. But it was the most pressure basketball game for one team in the history of college basketball and especially with no upper class leadership to pull through, it is what happened.
Now the Cheats jump on Kansas and finally had pressure and FOLDED.
I honestly thought Cheats should have been preseason on the bubble to the top 25.

I'm not so sure Alabama doesn't lose in the second round, Pisgah. The Miller saga may have broke this group. I feel bad for their kids outside of Miller. Screw Nate Oats and the AD, though.
So happy we got that win. Takes a little bit more of the sting away from how last season ended.
But I have to say... watching that game just solidifies for me that the ACC is not very good. Neither of those teams looked very good, both unable to score for large swathes of the game. It was kinda ugly. If we get to the second weekend we should ALL be thrilled this year.
And I'm disappointed that once again Whitehead barely showed up. I really wish he'd try to make things happen on offense instead of being content to be the fourth option or whatever. Oh well, I think I'm finally giving up on thinking he's going to turn into a 15, 5, and 5 guy like I thought he'd be. He is what he is this year. Just hope he gets things turned around after the jump to the league.

Feels good to wake up to a second win over them. We have great momentum going. A week ago I wouldn't have said we could win the ACC Tournament, but now I think we can.
1. Cannot take much from a rivalry game. Weird crap always happens.
2. I do not see anyone over-powering us offensively on our defense. Good defense with trouble on offense has more promise than a good offensive team that cannot play defense this time of year.
3. Whitehead was serviceable in eating up minutes. Scheyer said he was two weeks away after Syracuse. Ok times up. Let's go.

The jump to the league ain't good. The reality is DUKE has a class coming in that wants to play immediately.

Just watched a ten minute highlight of the game. Proctor, Flip, and Mitchell were all very impressive. Love bricks a shot in the last minute. Black missed a 3 in Cameron in the last minute. Last year they made those shots. Sometimes it just comes down to making shots. Surprising that we survived subpar games from Whitehead, Grandison and Roach and still won. Whitehead just looks like he's not in the flow. He did not look comfortable out there. We need him to get his confidence back. It's amazing how far Proctor and Lively have come the last few months.

Agreed. Folks need to move on from the notion he will be a difference maker for us. He just never panned out for his year at Duke.
IMO , it’s all mental . When he was out with injury I think they said all he did was work on his shooting from the perimeter. Unfortunately it’s the time of the season when freshman are evolving but due to injury Whitehead hasn’t been able to put together a complete game where he takes his slashing ability and mixes it with his shooting . Hope I’m wrong though because he really can be a deadly weapon .
It's sad these kids don't stay more than a year or two. In 5 years, I won't remember most of these kids unless they have an interesting name or win a championship.
Yea he would elevate Duke to another level if he could put it all together, but time is running out. IDK, it could be that all we get from him is a competent back up. I will keep hoping but the odds are diminishing by the day now. I had hopes for something like a super 6th man.
Agree on Whitehead. Seems the young man has so much potential that we may not see from him in a Duke uniform. And speaking practically how many games do we have left this season? 4? 5? 6? In an ideal world maybe 7 with a chance at something amazing??

At times this season has reminded me a little of the 2015 team minus the perimeter shooting. Wouldn’t it be something if Whitehead catches on fire these next 3 weeks.
Why didn't he mention how the next game went after the cheats won in the Final Four last year? That trump card is nonexistent because they didn't win ****.
I was referring more to overall history of year 1 or 2 after the other win a title.
