You win the Nostradamas award.Duke. But the margin for error is sooooooo thin.

They're both important but think Pat is more important. Reason being is that Maliq gets into foul trouble way too much just because of the way he plays and he can't play as aggressive as he's used to since there's no backup. With Cam being such a great passer, it's good for him to have lob threat or someone to dump the ball to in the post for an easy basket. We saw it tonight when Maliq went out with his fourth foul. Whenever Cam got the ball the defense collapsed onto him and he had no one to dump it to. That's when FSU got their run and went up 8. Maliq checked back in after and that's when we went on our run.Pat and Foster are very important players. And not freshman. Them being out, we are still talented but insanely young.
Wilkins redshirt, Cameron & Jack are practice players who get minutes in mop-up time, Ochi had season-ending surgery. So, we were running with the 9 that we have. And then two freak injuries happened. Pat's was a lingering issue from over the summer. Caleb's was a freak thing that has happened to this kid twice now. It sucks. But we run with who we have. We can't burn Wilkins redshirt. And we shouldn't because he clearly wasn't ready, and you could tell that when he got a little bit of burn early on. He looked lost out there. The only way Cameron or Jack is out there is if we have, lord forbid, another injury or are up big late, and Ochi was our emergency big that is out for the year.I find it strange we dont have anyone else to step up or that the staff cannot develop our team enough to absorb 2 injuries...do we not scrimmage 5 v 5 in practice? so still have 8 capable players on the roster? Some may be young but this is Duke...we have high level players on the roster. A win is a win but this performance was very shaky.

You can't go out and have 12 guys on your roster who are 4 and 5 stars, then expect all of them to play or have guys who are just on the bench in case of emergency, break glass. It doesn't work that way. I get what you're saying, but the reality is that we had a great shot at winning it all before we lost Caleb & Pat. Those expectations have been altered. I hope we can do it with the guys we have, especially if we can get a healthy Pat next week. But I acknowledge this is an uphill battle.
Pat returning healthy would be huge. Not just for protecting the rim and rebounding but also for passing and playing a high low post game. I sure hope he can start practicing soon and be at full strength. Would love to see him get 15-20 minutes game one and be a full go from then on out.Jim Boeheim and others will draw a ton of negatives from this game and a few are warranted, especially the free throw shooting.
But this team needed a game like this as they’ve been blowing the doors off everyone. As like the first time, fsu was hitting ridiculous shots ALL game and that will not continue happening.
Duke won a game against a red hot team and allowed them to get a game in without Foster to adjust. Getting Pat back for protecting the rim will be massive.
I agree with the first paragraph. And FSU is hot. Those guys were throwing upDuke didn’t beat a fluke team. Florida St is playing good enough to be in the tournament, they just got off to an awful start.
We’re asking a lot out of Cayden and Khamenia.
Would like to see more minutes and more poise from Harris. He had more minutes vs UVA and UNC. We need him to step up.Harris only gets 6 minutes. Duke down to 5 players. Harris gets up.
Scheyer: "my teams on the court."
We all know how recruiting/rankings sometimes are. Some kids live up to them immediately, and some don't. Evans was a top level recruit out of high school. His defense was weak last season, and he was basically only a shooter. Not this season. He's a complete player.I agree with the first paragraph. And FSU is hot. Those guys were throwing up
But not the second. Those guys are both top 20 recruits. If they were ranked 80-100 and developmental recruits it would be asking a lot to get those minutes. But What we are asking of them is what we should expect of them. Khamenia was consistently ranked around 15. And we should expect they should step up. Just as Sarr has. Khamenia had some nice plays but has to be better. Same with Cayden. Much better. At this point they have competed all season and every practice with and against the top team in the country for a year. They did not just step off the bus.
