Yeah, this loss just did so much damage. Even if we beat UT, we're still fighting an uphill battle.

Looks like a 2 seed might be our ceiling now, which blows.

Lose Saturday and it's salt in the wound.

Might be a blessing if we get UVA in the south. I can think of much worse scenarios, like a 1 seed out west with Zaga as the 2 in an Elite Eight game in Anaheim.

The numbers don't always tell the full story. I was shocked when you gave the stats because it felt like they killed us inside all night. They were aggressive and battled.
It doesn't help that the biggest offensive rebound we got by Travis there at the end, he threw away. That rebound did nothing but start the fast break for LSU.

LSU didn’t have to adapt like we did. Waters has zero fouls all night. We weren’t in the bonus until 6 seconds left.

I know we made mistakes. I know if we had played better we would have won anyway. But the refs also had an impact, all the way to the last play. You can make mistakes and also be affected by the refs. It isn’t an either or scenario.

I’m not sure why some people are so adamant about acting like refs didn’t impact a loss. Do you think it makes you tougher somehow? I mean, we literally were denied overtime by a blown call. Doesn’t get much clearer than that.
Oh the refs totally effected the game. I thought that type of officiating was no more, thought that was left back in 2017, but they decided to bring it back out tonight.

But that should have played in our favor. We didn't make Waters defend and we continued to let our worst shooters take outside shots instead of driving for fouls.

Hopefully this crew doesn't do the game on Saturday.

Refs did impact the game, and that will rightfully be the narrative, but it won't be the part that Cal will care about.

He'll care about Hagans taking way too many threes. He'll care about PJ being the only kid to give a crap for 40 minutes. He'll care about letting Mays force his will every time he drove the ball. He'll care about countless possessions where instead of giving PJ a touch, UK settled for jumper after jumper. He'll care about LSU wanting it more down the stretch.

UK can't prepare for bad refs in the tournament. But it can prepare for stopping the process of valuing possessions. Tonight, in the second half, they didn't value them.

So yes, blame the refs, and rightfully so. But UK was literally one or two decent possessions away from not even giving the refs a chance to screw them over.

I'm as pissed as you at the call, but I think there will be a lot for UK to take away from this game going forward.

The refs sucked no doubt about it. But if we had posted the ball instead of shooting threes we might have been in the bonus sooner. You don’t draw many fouls when you are throwing up threes. Even our post players were shooting them. My biggest fear come tournament time is that we go cold from three and just keep shooting them.
Reid Travis and PJ Washington shouldn’t have taken one shot outside the paint in the second half.

I’m not Cal, so I’m allowed to be mad. But after paying attention to Cal for the last decade, I’m pretty sure he’s mad about the refs too.

We absolutely still should have won this game. We are a hair away from being 23-1 and in the driver’s seat for everything we want. We are also just as close to two games in Des Moines.

After this kind of loss, I can't even be pumped for Saturday's game. Grant Williams will shoot 20 free throws.

Plus, if you lose to the 19th ranked team in the Country, LSU, on your home floor in mid February..no matter the reason..refs/officiating, crap offense and defense, whatever..it doesn't give me any kind of hope that this team can make the Final 4. NCAA officiating/refs are garbage, our backcourt can't make open shots even halfway consistently, the team can't hold leads, etc ect....I don't have any hope for this team making a Final 4 let alone a National Title whether it be for one reason or another.

Before PJ got #4, there were literally 3-5 minute stretches where didn't even touch the ball. Some of the guys still playing turned that stretch into a "Hey, scouts, look I can shoot too" clinic.

Cal should really RIP the SEC and these officials a new one. He can afford the fine. Fight for and protect your team Cal. You're paid 8M a year, do what needs to be done. Stop acting like you want to trade xmas cards and Birthday cards with them. Its adversarial, act like it. If officials suck, even worse if they cost you a game, drag their unaccountable asses out into the sunlight for all the world to see. Challenge them and the people who hired their incompetent asses.

There is nothing worse than officials directly costing a team a game. Nothing.

LSU is the kind of team you will play in the Sweet 16 or Elite 8. Tonight might as well have been a neutral court, so you shouldn’t feel terrible about our chances to make the Final Four.

Exactly..but it will be even tougher than LSU, unfortunately. We'll be playing Duke in the Elite 8 as a 2 seed if we make it that far..you can bet on it.

Too many players have the green light to do what they want IMO. You have to know the situation and value possessions. When you tell a guy to take a shot if he’s open he’s going to do it. When Travis took that three at a critical moment in the game Cal looked as disgusted as I’ve ever seen him. But what can he say? He created it.

That’s an overreaction, imo. A top 10-15 team played well and beat you on a buzzer beater on a night you didn’t play well. What that tells me is that even on a bad night, we could squeak out a Sweet Sixteen win against a good team.

Can’t judge a team based on their best or worst performance. But if that is our worst at this point in the season, we will be right in the mix.

I think LSU is a little better than most. I had them as the 12 best team coming into tonight.

Then it is what it is. If UK doesn't like it, they should look back at how they folded against Hall and Bama and remember there were no missed goal tending calls in those games.

I'm tired of the annual parade of martyrdom. UK needs to handle its business and take what they want instead of looking for help from the broader universe.

Honestly (and this could be me just being down and out tonight), I don't think LSU played that great tonight. They're usually scoring in the 80s and 90s..they only scored 73 tonight and still beat us. Arkansas beat this LSU team in Baton Rouge just about a 10 days ago.

LSU didn't play well at all. They just played less crappy than UK did. That second half by UK was pathetic.

Do that on Saturday and UT wins by 20

Hagans took some unfathomable and untimely shots as well.

It was all there for the script writers. Living on the edge eventually bites you in the butt against good team when you selectively choose to turn on the "value possessions" switch.

Leave the door open for a bad call? We've seen that in the script before as well.

That is true but it doesn't change a blown call that would have sent the game to OT.

Right now, I wouldn't even care if they do. Of course I hope we win but I'm not expecting it now. Tonight is the kind of loss that takes about a 3 or 4 game win streak to get over for me.

A few bad plays down the stretch. One was when we got the offensive rebound with 25 seconds left tie game all we had to do was kick it out and set up for the final shot then you win or go OT. Instead we threw it away then we made a bonehead foul that lead to 2 FT's for them. We did end up tying it back up of course but we should been shooting for the final shot had we just kicked that ball out correctly with 25 seconds left.

Yeah, but they haven’t lost anything else. And you might want to at least consider that our defense and pacing had something to do with their scoring.

Watching SEC channel right now and watching the highlights we gave up way too many offensive rebound put back scores in the final few minutes.

That and all those 1st half missed FT's.

Still feel like we could have have won the game.

Man really tough to take really tough. That is what happens when you are on such a streak and feel that your team is that good you don't expect to lose at home to anyone.

PJ needs to stop getting into foul trouble. Having him off the floor so long in the 2nd half of these last 2 games has hurt.
