Can't say it's a defensive thing either, Green checked Colin Sexton without issue.
We obviously needed a scoring lineup in there today, but Cal chose to play Diallo and Richards for some seriously extended minutes.
I don't get it.
Cals heard so much about Diallo that he's gonna prove us all wrong. Great coaches are the most stubborn and have the biggest egos on the planet. So when/if Diallo has a mediocre game he can say see I told ya so. Ignoring the fact that playing him this much has already cost a line or 2 in the seedings.
To finish beating this subject to death ... from the under 16 timeout until the 6 minute mark our Zone held the gators to 2-12 shooting, three turnovers and 1 of 5 threes) After we cut it to nine and missed about three chances to cut it more we gave up and went back to man after that.
Against slower teams when we are energetic and ready to play our man defense is okay and had gotten better, but against quicker teams we can't guard and get fixed up off the dribble and give up both easy drives and threes easy.
We can't wait until halftime to figure this out in the tournament. The zone works to slow these teams down and it's not a gimmick or an accident. Not sure why this is STILL so hard for us to understand. Add in that we don't foul out of it and we have to start being at least a 50/50 man/zone team

Why does Cal start Richards and Diallo then bring Vanderbilt and Greene off the bench? I mean I get the whole spark off the bench thing, but it puts them in a hole the 1st 5 minutes of every game.

I would love to know the reason for this as well. My friends and I were all wondering. When Diallo and Richards come in we usually let the other team go on a run. When they go out we slowly start to come back. Maybe he likes the spark off the bench? The old sayings, it doesn't matter who starts but who finishes. But it would be nice to start the game good as well.
Maybe Florida is just a bad match up for us? They literally ran us off the floor. Well off to the next game. I hope the team plays with effort and shares the ball. If not then it's a big fat L.
