I think Mac Uhlein starts as a freshman, and Anthony Tyus will play as well. Hard to tell from highlights since they never drop the ball, but Jacob Gill seems solid too.

Uhlein has a LOT of work to do physically to play a full season as a B1G LB. Tyus might have to play some by construct if we don't get a transfer RB, but all signs are that Porter will be a David Montgomery "bell cow" type.

Took a look the other day and the beginning of his career arc is eerily reminiscent of David Montgomery, who Ayeni coached at Iowa State. Montgomery came on strong at the end of 2016 with 56 carries for 341 yards to go with 6 catches for 64 yards receiving over the Cyclones' last three games; he then exploded for 256 carries, 1,146 yards and 11 TDs rushing with 36 catches for 296 yards receiving in 2017 and 257 carries for 1,216 yards and 13 TDs rushing with 22 catches for 157 yards in 2018. No other ISU RB had more than 39 carries in either 2017 or 2018.

By comparison, Cameron Porter went for 73 carries and 301 yards with 4 rushing TDs over our last three games plus 7 catches for 45 yards over our last three games this year.

The stage is set, table is ready Mr. Porter.

Do we know if Uhlein will play inside or outside?

Uhlein has Will LB written all over him.

Somehow Tyus looks the part and will be a good complement to Porter once he gets the system in place. Replacing departing seniors is always a challenge but we have to take Fitz at his word that these people are ready. And, perhaps, we'll be able to enter the stadium next year and cheer in person...or have a cardiac event in person.

I cannot imagine a year off has helped Uhlein as a player. And we should have plenty of talent at LB, so Mac would have to blow the doors off to crack the two-deep.

i am also go out and say that Michael Jansey and Xander Mueller are not ready yet either. (To be starters)

Jones, Rivers, McIntyre, Gallagher, Coleman are going to be the guys who battle it out for playing time.

Where does Grayson Mann fit in? He's actually gotten more playing time than most of who you cite.

Any insiders have some grapevine chatter as to who might be front runners out of this group? For instance, I’m interested to see what Coleman looks like next year. Only saw a few glimpses on ST this year. My guess is he needed to transform some bad weight to good weight and maybe even shed a few lbs.
