CJF said something in the postgame interview that they found out shortly before game time that Singleton would not be available to play. We could really use him next week. Obviously.

Just finished watching the game via Tivo recording as I had to go to a fall festival with my granddaughter. Unfortunately there was no way of getting out of the festival as my daughter bought the tickets and expected us to go.

My main observation was that the TV announcing was absolutely horrible. You would have thought that UCLA was pummeling Penn State. It seemed most of the commentary was UCLA this, UCLA that. I don’t know if the rest of this years game announcers were this bad because I usually sync the video with the Penn State radio broadcast.

I thought it was a solid, but somewhat unspectacular, and pretty much one sided win. And it was done without Singleton. Next week is going to be a challenge, but not impossible to win.

Apparently Nick removed himself from the game. James and even Drew thought he was going to play right up to kickoff. Seth Engle had a post on X (sorry I don’t know how to link) that showed Nick in warmups catching a pass and trotting toward Quinton Martin and shaking his head which to me indicated that something felt wrong.

So, apparently the blueprint to beat USC is physical play. They struggled with Michigan and Minnesota who punched them in the mouth physically. If PSU plays as physical as they did against Illinois, they have a good chance of winning. PSU would really, really benefit with Singleton back next week as well has having a fully healthy stable of Offensive linemen.

It appears BIG teams that travel a long distance don’t win very often. Indy is the outlier, but west coast teams traveling east or even Midwest and teams traveling to the west coast have not done well so far.

Franklin told Steve Jones on post game interview that 2 trainers told him after pre-game warmup that Nick would be a scratch
