Hope everyone realizes these events are taking place from 3 am to 3 pm. Set your recorder to record all Olympic events. Watch at your leisure and zoom through the commercials. This also frees up your evening since you don’t have to watch the commercials on the NBC recap of the day’s events

So I LOVE xc and biathlon and today did not disappoint. Any sport where the athletes pretty much collapse at the finish is doing something really right.

In the men’s 10x10, I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen anything, in any sport, like how klaebo (nor) skated away from the lead group on the last climb. His cadence was like 2-3x the others. Only thing close is when lance armstrong crashed on the spectator bag, chased down the grupetto and then rode away to win at luz ardiden. (And we all know what was really going on then).

then in the mixed biathlon, the Frenchwoman shooting on the final leg was just deadly quick.

I just now googled: we saw the team figure skating conclusion live. Finished at 5 pm EST, 11pm Milan time. But, yeah, everything past 5pm ET is taped.

It’s embarrassing that a country that has a population of over 342 million and all of the resources in the world mostly sucks at the true Winter Olympic sports and not the glorified X Games sports, and I don’t even know if this country is doing that well in those sports.
We’re one of the few countries that don’t fund our Olympians - it’s mostly sponsorships. I’ve always wanted us to take the Olympics more seriously - not as just an every few years curiosity. George Steinbrenner when he was alive was a huge backer of our olympians

It isn't about population. It is about geography. How many downhill skiers do you expect to come from Florida with 20 million people?

I caught some of the skiathalon, and Klaebo's attack on the final hill was spectacular. His attack on the last hill was other worldly. While I didn't think of it at the time, it did resemble some of Lance's attacks in Tour stage wins.

It wouldn't matter if the population was 600 million, no one in the U.S. is interested in these sports for the most part so the pool of participants is very small. Plus remember at least half the population lives in warm weather states.

I look at it from a very different perspective. So many of the sports in the Winter Games are niche sports in different pockets of our country. And, it’s precisely because of our country’s vast size (in both population and geography) that we have the ability to raise up athletes who can compete at the international level in such a wide variety of sports. No other country comes close to us in that regard. It’s hard to win at everything when an array of other countries, who participate in fewer sports, really specialize in a small handful of Olympic sports.

If you were to list all of the Olympic sports that our country has won gold medals in throughout Olympic history (both summer and winter), it would be extremely impressive compared to any other nation. But, it's hard to sustain dominance in every sport when it's impossible to specialize in every sport per capita.

Except when the event runs over. Missed part of the Opening Ceremonies that way. :(

NBC's coverage is horrible. First, I had read they were promising 4K, then they kinda backed off that and said 4K would only apply to prime-time coverage. Tried watching Olympics on Peacock yesterday. After a few runs in luge, a commercial - OK, I can handle that - but the commercials Peacock inserts overrun the coverage, so I missed a luge run or two during the two minutes of commercials. And this was on a recorded event. I really wasn't that interested in the Olympics to begin with, really wanted to get a taste of the 4K, but that bombed, and then the commercials - ugh.
If you're watching on Peacock, you can do multiview to watch several events at once. Described here: How to use multiview to watch 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics

Watching the opening ceremony and parade of athletes - my favorite part of the Games. We get very few opportunities at this scale to show as a representation/microcosm of our global population and the smiles and excitement is so great to see. That said still bitter about Eileen Gu….🤬
I have been watching everything I can when I can. I get tired of them always showing figure skating and curling. I want to see the ski jumping, cross country stuff, luge, skeleton, etc. I wish they would bring back barrel jumping!!!

Also, was anyone else sick of Shawn White commentating in the opening ceremonies? It was Chris Collingsworth level of annoying!! Every time a country's team was waking out he made it a story about when he was there or his brand is doing promos in this country blah blah blah.. Otherwise I love seeing all the ceremonies.

I am enjoying watching.

She was sick! The announcers trying to create some drama were hilarious. I believe she shot 5/5 on the first go and then 5/5 standing. Just crazy.

@Tom McAndrew Would it be possible for you to give a quick caption of the YT video links you provide? Clearly NBC is not allowing their Olympic videos to display on third party sites. Might provide a bit of context for interested people to click on.

sorry. Going forward I will. I thought it odd the way they were appearing on this board, but figured that clicking on Watch on YouTube would allow them to appear.

So, in the future, I will post a quick summary of any NBC Olympic YouTube link I post.

Well, they can be in the biathlon, which is cross country skiing and shooting. They have the shooting part down pretty good, now it's a just a matter of the cross country skiing.
