I like your list.
I think you're correct at TE according to depth chart, but expect Ortwerth to have better receiving stats than Ostrenga.

Bryce George may factor in on the O-line
He was 1st Team DII AA his senior season and 2nd Team DII AA his junior year.

I know that doesn't necessarily translate to D1 B1G success but that's a solid start.

Agreed! He should be in the 2-deeps, but where....? 🤔

George will play a significant role, significant snaps, me believes. Would love for him to be a rock-solid starter... Especially at LT!

LT is the tell-all for the season. Consistent play to above average play, and we roll!

Go Hawks!

We actually have a lot of weapons from what we've been told, so some picks may be easier than others. Still wondering who gets the nod for LT. Other than that, the list looks good.

Offense will be fine.

This team will go as far as the D takes them

I think we will have a little more balance than we have had in previous years. The Special Teams, Offense & Defense will all be good. If the ST & D are great-to-excellent, we be a top tier B1G team.

The DL & LBs should be very good groups. With the DL potentially great. The LBs have never been average under Seth Wallace. It'll be next man(men) in, and they will impress... The DBs are where I think we have the biggest question mark.

The guy had 60 targets last year, and ZERO DROPS! That my fellow Hawkeye fans is dynamite!

Look for some explosive plays this year. I cannot wait!
He's an exciting player, I'd like to see where he'll be on the depth chart, but that won't be until game week. My bet is still Gill/RVZ/Anderson. But Phillips and and Parker feel like exciting new pieces that could add some real electricity to the offense.

The team will go as far as the Offense takes them this year.

Offense needs to take another step forward this year for Iowa to be successful. Lester was handed the unenviable 1st year task of repairing a Brian Ferentz calamity.

I’m cautiously optimistic that the 2nd year in the new system will result in better overall production, especially in the passing game which had become a national laughing stock.

Anyone who laughs at a winning program has the joke on them.

"BF calamity?" No, not really.

Before Lester was even hired, KF told us to expect the offense to take a big step forward, as he expected the o-line to be in a good place.

The events that led to Iowa having a non-functional o-line had almost nothing to do with BF

My thoughts:
1. I think TJ Washington ends up #2 RB with McNeil getting a surprising number of reps as well.

2. You’d think it would be different based on body type, but Howard is a Z and Parker is an X. I think, if healthy, Phillips is the starting slot.

3. I think Lauck ends up starting LT, with Dotzler #2 and George being the swing guy at the other 4 OL position (except C).

Yes really.

Goetz is now and will continue to be championed for stepping in to terminate and remove the worst OC in the Big Ten conference who was responsible for the performance on the field - a multi-season crater. It was long overdue.

The last few BF apologists will continue to manufacture excuses, I suppose, but established facts are irrefutable. Carry on with your lame defense of Brian Ferentz IDC. He was a failure and justifiably extracted - permanently -from the University of Iowa.

Brian Ferentz failed
He was rightfully terminated

None of the 600+ active NCAA football programs have hired BF to lead their offense as Offensive Coordinator

Ferentz is now in a job commensurate with his ability - a staff position - coaching Tight Ends at California State University, Fresno. The weather is better.

I remember when Brian joined the staff posters and fans were predicting he would someday succeed his Dad in the top job. When he was promoted to OC more jumped on the BF bandwagon. Some of us were more cautious, citing his lack of experience. We got back Belichick and Patriots and some other stuff.

With all we have seen and know now, that OC hire is arguably Kirk's worst staff hire during his time at Iowa. Certainly the worst hire for OC.

Perhaps so.

Either way, it's a good thing BF's rank at OC matters little, as KF's winningest stretch was with BF at OC

As was pointed out at the time, Brian Ferentz was not minimally qualified to take over as Coordinator at a major college program. The hire was undisguised favoritism, pure nepotism

For all that Kirk has done, promoting his unqualified son to an important senior position will go down as a major blunder, arguably the biggest stain on his coaching career.

Then, to compound the matter, Kirk refused to remove him after it became abundantly clear that Brian was clearly in over his head and damaging the program.

All of the foregoing is a rehash of what is widely known and accepted. But Lester is working OT to clean up the mess and I am optimistic that we shall see continued improvement this season.

Just saw an article about "Athletic's 2025 Freaks List" with 3 Hawkeyes listed. Two of them are Jones and Pieper. The other is Ries (LB).
On a side note, I thought Myslinski was the backup center but he's apparently been moved to RG. I don't recall him ever getting many snaps.

Brian will always be remembered as a fine center at Iowa, and there's no doubt he bleeds black and gold. I hope he has an excellent coaching career with much success.

But there is no way another (then) P5 school would have hired him to be an offensive coordinator. He wasn't close to ready for that responsibility. Beth Goetz did what Travis did to Old Yeller because it had to be done.

Winter is backup C on paper in reality it will be Peiper or Myslinski if game still close Myslinski has had injury issues and last year was first time he was healthy. Hopefully he will contribute this year.

Pretty sure Goetz was told to fire Brian by UI president. Needed to be done and she probably would have done it anyway. Was personally hoping Brian would get it done but it didn’t happen.

I still blame Kirk for most of Brian's failures. He had his hands tied to a game plan/offensive scheme that did not fit to the team's personnel... On the rare occasion that the offense was moving and we got a lead, Kirk would slam on the brakes. BF definitely did not get a fair shake. Not to say he was qualified, but he was on a short leash.

Lester does not have that leash, thankfully! Heck, Lester is even in the skybox!?! LoL! This is nothing that Kirk has had before. This is Kirk 3.0... And I am liking the direction it is heading.
