I just booked an all inclusive for my wife and I in Punta Cana at an adults only resort for mid June (Breathless is the name of the resort). Has anyone been to Punta Cana and/or this particular resort? Any recommendations? Things to stay away from? Thanks.

Get ready for the Peddlers on the beach

They would damn near ruin a good beach day. After you tell about 26 people to 17 off they'll leave you alone.

One day our resort actually sent out security to keep them at bay. Maybe it was just our resort that had this issue. We stayed at Now Larimar.

Water is beautiful, food was meh. If it's like most all inclusives, it has one or two good restaurants and the rest are crap.

We had the same issue at The Majestic. Do not book a fishing trip either. It was essentially a 4 hour boat ride.

That must be a problem at particular resorts. I assume the beach at our resort was private, as we didn't have anybody show up that didn't look like they were a resort guest, either at ours or an adjacent resort.

I've tried to read as many reviews as possible and this was one of the complaints. After I get a few cocktails in me I'm sure I will have no problem telling them to 17 off. The biggest draw for me was the resort being adults only. I've got 3 kids under the age of 6 and I don't want to deal with someone else's brats on my adult vacation.

Ours was not private

We walked out from the pool area to the beach and it basically converged with 3 or 4 other resorts.

It was a free trip from my wifes work, so we had low expectations. But I swear you could fall asleep in your chair and those guys would come wake you up about parasailing.

I hope we aren't dampening your excitement. Even with the peddlers we still had a blast. If you can't have a good time with all you can eat, drink, fun, and sun then maybe you need to take up baseball statistics. One thing I will say is I've been to five carribean resorts and the DR had the best selection of spirits. I was shocked but they had Four Roses.

It sounds like Jennifer your describing my trip to the Bahamas. I had some ******** that followed us out in the water one time. Our fishing trip consisted of us catching Baracuda, something I've done dozens of times. We paid a lot of money to refil their chum stock.

Nah I'm really excited to go anywhere kid free for 5 days. The resort is rated highly and most reviews are very positive. I'm gonna have a good time I'm sure. Just wanted some suggestions/feedback. I appreciate it.

The only place in the Caribeaan that I never had to deal with a peddler is Aruba. I would definitely go back there.

Just got back from our honeymoon in Punta Cana last month. Stayed at the Majestic Ellegance all inclusive resort. If you're looking for a 5 star meal every night you can write about on Yelp then it's probably not the best place. But if you're looking for a beautiful beach with great drinks and the occasional topless European girl then its perfect. Thought every meal we had was good but everything is good at 9pm when you've been drinking all day I guess. Tip a little early and they take care of you all week.

We stayed at Excellence Punta Cana for our honeymoon. Don't remember anyone really bothering us for much. The only guy following me around was the waiter after I tipped $10 the first day - my drink never got empty after that.

Food was pretty good for an all inclusive. There wasn't anything else around except the K-Mart, Wal Mart and Target huts a few hundred feet down the beach where you could buy some "local art" and **** like that.

We did go zip lining, which was an adventure in itself just getting there. We were the only 2 people from our resort going, so we had our own bus that was to meet another bus in a town on the way. The only English the driver spoke was "meeting place" when he dropped us off. The other bus didn't show for about 30 minutes, so I went in the store we were waiting outside of and got a couple 40's of Presidente for us.

My wife and I went about 10 yrs ago

Melia Caribe was the name of the resort I believe. All inclusive. No kids that I remember. Food was decent. Service was great. Beautiful grounds. Beautiful beach. Resort provided lounge chairs under palm trees on the beach. Wait staff constantly bringing drinks. No peddlers at all. Didn't get asked to buy anything until we went into Higuey (sp).

The beach was private, at least a section of it. If you go down closer to the water, I believe that was public as people were walking by. The lounge chairs were on the private part. Don't recall it happening, but the resort must have kept peddlers out. Very peaceful.

One cool thing I remember was the fact that there were no structures visible from the beach where we were. All you could see were palm trees and sand. I assume there are building codes restricting construction close to the beach. No ugly line of endless condos like on American beaches.

We trolled for three hours with 30 year old teaser skirts predictably with no luck. On our way in, birds were pounding water 300 yards away and when I pointed it out the crew said no, our time was up.
