My thoughts, I don’t care if they bring in the second coming of Tom brady, Gail sayers and Jerry rice, until we get a big ten o line winning will be a struggle. The 2 transfers hope they are great but neither is a can’t miss

has the team with the best O-Line (per PFF or any actual metric other than the eyeball test) ever won the B1G?

just another B1G myth (excuse), similar to the "dominant defenses" which are non-existent against non-B1G offenses

you know what wins the B1G every year? speed and elite quarterback play. that's it. sure, there are exceptions, but in the last 20 years, the teams with the most speed and the best quarterback have won the conference.

Once Nouli became a starter, we were good enough on the interior. Not great, but good enough. The problem was at tackle, especially so in obvious passing situations. I feel the coaching change will help immensely there.

and the quarterback change

if our new QB has .01% pocket presence, it will be a massive upgrade to the negative awareness we've witnessed the last 4 years

You need a coach who gets after his players and gets them to understand they win and lose as a unit and he refuses to let them lose. I want a coach who has players are willing to go through a wall (Hypothetical) for and I hope Donovan is that coach because the last coach sure didn't do his players any favors.

This is neglecting the fact that Ohio State has elite line play too.

I would care a lot if we brought in the next Brady, Sayers and Rice. But yes, I would also like better line play too.

Martinez bailed out our tackles an awful lot to say he had negative awareness.
Martinez put our tackles in impossible/unpredictable situations on basically every play due to his lack of ability to function as a traditional QB

I’m glad he’s gone and can guarantee he will not be missed by the guys he deserted on their islands non-stop

I’m sure they’ve graded as the best group in the B1G a couple years

I’m positive it’s not a prerequisite for winning in this very avg league bereft of playmakers
I don’t think anybody is claiming you must have the absolute best lines in the league to win it in a given year, but you definitely have to be in the conversation. Yes, OSU’s skill players are what put them over the top, but the foundation is still in the trenches.

And just for reference by my count Ohio State has 25 linemen in the NFL compared to Iowa’s 17 and Wisconsin’s 10.

and in Frost's tenure, o-line is the position group that's sent the most guys to the league at NU

we have the talent to be 'in the conversation'. watching a new quarterback this year should remind people what on-schedule offensive football looks like

AM's improv routine didn't do anybody any favors

That definitely worked both ways. Very frequently our tackles barely touched who they were supposed to be blocking.

Yeah, I would heavily disagree with that. Martinez often had zero chance in obv passing situations because our tackles didn't even get a hand on the DE. Our OT pass blocking could often only be described with one word....shameful.

On the contrary, from all many accounts, the players loved Austin. He did all those things you list to some degree or another but where I think what he lacked was teaching the fine details and technique of blocking at each position. All the feel good, get on the soap box stuff is good but at the end of the game you have to able to at least break even or preferably dominate the guy across from you. JMHO

I understand your position but just because you are loved doesn't mean you're going to bust your butt for someone. I'm not sure all the players busted their butts for Austin there just didn't seem to be much snarl with our OL, they seemed to go through the motions at times.
