Man…I hope adding Judge back in springboards this offense. We face a righty tonight…so the 1B / DH decision is pretty simple with Garcia / Rice. But I am still interested in the lineup when we face a LH starter. Do you think Boone keeps going with Goldie at 1B and DHs Rice? That’s the route I’d go. Judge’s return should place Ramos on the bench and I think Jones’s production will keep even a gale that Grisham there. So…tonight…?

I like Jones in center as well. The Martian struggled in RF last game. Might need to leave him on the bench. And Caballero has struggled at the plate since MLB made him stop his normal batting routine and it's beginning to affect his defense. We'll see how the next few weeks play out but I don't see us catching TB
I predict a Judge solo homer and a fly ball out tonight. If he gets a third AB then throw a strikeout in there as well

Great business as usual win last night. Warren pitched well. We rested Headrick and Bednar. Let’s get the sweep nailed down today. I can’t believe TB may sweep the Braves on the road. Those dudes just do not lose. Maddening.

Hard to believe that Lombard is the first and only Yank to hit a Grand Slam this year.
Tip of the cap to Volpe. What he did…the roller coaster and crashing at the major league level and being sent down and probably being at a crossroads and showing the intestinal fortitude to man up and work even harder to get back…beyond impressive. And it’s not lost on me that right now, 2/5ths of the nights that we play, we likely have:

The reports on Volpe down at Triple A had been glowing. Took his demotion like a man. Worked his tail off. Focused on all the things he needed to focus on. Moving away from shortstop is hard on a player but can be huge for the player if they accept it. All indications at triple A were that Volpe did just that.
And comes back and has probably the best game of his major league career.

If Volpe can perform at 2nd.....that could set up the Yanks middle infield for the next decade.
Wells was 2020 but yes, nothing like homegrown talent as the base of a team.
Good catch. I was thinking about his initial draft spot out of high school. You are right about 2020.
Mets have been playing well since their call-ups and manager change. We really could use a sweep. It I know that winning the series 2 to 1 is probably the most likely outcome. Mets are starting three rookies against us? I think that’s what I read.
Volpe has credited Oswaldo Cabrera for his success. Said Oswaldo busts his *** and never complains and keeps moving forward in the hopes he's called up. If not he's given his all. Volpe has copied that mentality.
As mentioned earlier it was pretty neat to see Jones, Dominguez, Lombard and Volpe all Yankee farm system guys out there last night.
My dream would be for Volpe to take over at 2nd and he and Lombard man the middle for the next 10 years.
I would just assume let Jazz go. I think the team as a whole has been extremely lackadaisical since we traded for him.

IF Volpe can be steady at 2nd and at the plate....that takes care of 2nd for a while.
Saw an article talking about how much the guys in the clubhouse like Volpe. And everyone LOVES Oswaldo in that clubhouse.
Hate that Cabrera has dealt with all of the injury stuff. Never going to be an everyday big leaguer but he is the type of guy every team needs on the bench and in the locker room. Just a guy that works his *** off every single day and exemplifies the old adage that "there is no 'I' in team"
I'm watching the 90 minute Yankees pregame show on YES about 911. It's hard to hold back the tears. Not sure I can handle another hour. 5 relatives of mine, aunt & uncle and their 3 children, all of them high-ranking military members at that time, were in the Pentagon when the plane hit it. All but 1 are retired now. Their offices were on the opposite side thankfully, but I still am affected by the ones that were killed. May God watch over the families of the deceased.

In the days that followed 9/11, he personally took GWB’s cell phone from him and gave him an uber secure cell to replace it
Anyway, his office was obviously at the Pentagon. He had to testify/report to a House sub-committee that morning so he left the Pentagon literally just moments after the first plane hit the WTC. He was driving to the Hill in traffic when the Pentagon was hit. As DC was shut down, he was stuck in his car. He couldn’t call his wife to say “I’m fine” because cell service was overloaded
Soldiers literally were sent out to find him and get him to a secure location. They pushed his car off the road and it was left there for several days. He was finally able to call his wife later in the afternoon to tell her he was fine but “it’s gonna be several days before I get to come home” as all Defense Dept execs were working 24/7 for days
He was also offered a contract by the Orioles when he was young to play ball but took a prestigious overseas academic opportunity he was presented instead
He’s a multi multi multi millionaire and served on the Boards of numerous technology companies. So, as he told me once, “I think I made the right decision….but I really did love playing baseball”
I just don't like Bednar. Too much contact. He's faced 5 hitters. Allowed an inherited runner to score. Three fly balls. A home run. A single. And a ground ball double play. Don't feel good with him closing in the post season. But we won.
Bednar busted his *** to get to first for the double play. That’s as quick as you will see a pitcher react and run to first
And TB walked into tonight. Really want to be within two games of them when they arrive in the Bronx.
Especially for his size. Lol They don't turn 2 there the game might have turned. It's crazy how there are games where every reliever struggles.
I think they need to be within 1 game to have a realistic chance. Yankees have been terrible at home against good teams.
The two walks by Blackburn and the two walks by Hedrick were maddening. We let the Mets create and maintain game pressure the last three innings because of those walks…and then we let them completely save their bullpen by not knocking Weisenburger around over the last three innings. Mets saved their pen and we spent several of the key arms in ours…which may end up costing us one game in this series.
More reinforcements on the way. Schmidt is throwing in one more rehab game today and expected to be activated early/mid next week

I’ve said it many times but I truly believe Weathers can be a real weapon as a lefty capable of throwing gas (especially in a 1-2 inning span). Warren started the other day but his previous appearance where he threw two scoreless innings shows what the brass is thinking. You could use Warren for 2 innings on a day, Schmidt for two innings on a day, and then have a third day with a “regular bullpen” while sprinkling bullpen arms here and there as needed. Gil needs to cut down on his pitch count but he and Weathers can be weapons with their ability to blow guys away
Hedrick, Blackburn, et al have been and are overworked. Hopefully cutting back on their appearances helps bring some life and command back

Agree on all counts. Hopefully we can keep getting Goldy and Ramos and Jazz ABs…talk about some serious bench options in the postseason if they stay sharp.
Does Boone want to lose games? Gave Garcia, Rice, and McMahon a day of rest. All are very hot at the plate.

Days off are for slumps. Especially a guy like McMahon. He needs to see every pitch he can while he’s seeing the ball well to build confidence
Here’s the other thing. You can talk about lefty-lefty splits all you want. THIS IS SEPTEMBER. Are you benching Rice or Garcia in October? HELL NO. Will Rice and Garcia see lefty pitching in October. OF COURSE
So now is the time for them to be routinely seeing lefty pitching to ensure they are as sharp as possible in October

You won't believe this but I just came here to post the same thing. Knowing how important these games are right now why are you not putting your best 9 out there? I despise metrics and analytics. The reason these players struggle so much is they don't get the chance. And it's always a small sample. And it's always lefty lefty. Rarely righty righty. I was a switch hitter but a natural righty, but the last 5 years I played I batted only lefty and had no more issues with lefties than I did righties. It's BS. It's a ball and a bat. Hit it! Boone is so stupid. He's always playing for tomorrow. Today is the only game that matters. I can see resting bullpen arms but fielders? They are just as alert and moving around in the dugout if not more than if they were in the game. I said years ago that if the Yankees ever win a title with Boone it will not be because of him but despite him and this is why.
Cole has no business being in the 4-man playoff rotation. He’s become a gopher-ball specialist, even against mediocre teams.
