I'm not worried about Tampa / standings. Just keep winning and all of that will sort itself out in the long run. Set a target of 100 wins and chase it all season.
I'm sure you remember Frank Lary. Eovaldi has nothing on him .Lary was the first pitcher in 50 years to beat the Yankees 7 times in a row and was 21-7 for his career. He was solid but just a .500 pitcher. Used to drive me crazy. One of the quirky things that always pops up in baseball is the Yankees have only lost 2 games in the past 10 days and both were to former Yankees pitcher Nathan Eovaldi. He deals on the Yankees but not on anyone else.
After firing seven scoreless innings in a win over them last Wednesday at Globe Life Field, Eovaldi continued his mastery of his former club, improving to 5-2 with a 2.22 ERA in his last 11 starts against the Bombers.
And it seems Tampa never loses a game. Despite the tear the Yankees have been on so has Tampa. They are only 1/2 game back.
Kid just can't get a break to go his way. Was starting to hit and bam, makes a great play and is in the concussion protocolAmazing catch by Dominguez after hitting the wall a ton.
Crazy isn't it?Yankees and Rays are the only two teams in the AL above .500. Mind-boggling.
Lot of talking heads saying that the Yanks need to upgrade the bullpen. This bullpen. Crap assembled by Cashman. Doval is Williams 2.0. Cruz is a joke. Why does Boone keep going to him in key points in games? How many times does he have to blow the inning before he is not used? Boone is so hard headed and a fool. It's a shame another gem by Schlittler goes to waste by Boone's stupid pitching moves. Some may say, well, the Yankees pen has the second best ERA in MLB, and that is true, but that does not tell how many inherited runs were allowed. And the key here is those numbers were assembled in games where the Yankees had big leads and there was no pressure on the relievers. In games that were on the line the Yankees pen has been one of the worst in baseball.
Exactly. And I might add that is not Boone's M.O.Next lesson from Cole to Cam is to get a little deeper / economy of pitches so the pen has less of a chance to blow another gem
That's what I would like to see as well, but the Yankees are just not going to bring up those 2 youngsters to put them in the pen, but that i where they need to be. Yankees want them getting more work than they would get in NY and it makes sense. Maybe bring them up later in the year. as we have discussed many time, Gil needs to be in the pen. Period. The Yanks are really good and can be great. It's already time to set aside "development" and go for the gusto this year.
Move Weathers to the pen. Lefty throwing high 90s cheese will be welcome.
Have Gil, Rodriguez, and LaGrange down at Triple A start pen work focused on their heater and one off-speed pitch. Three righties throwing from 97 to 103 coming out of the pen will be welcome.
Leave Hill and Bednar. Let Yarborough be your blow-out long man / emergency spot starter. Leave a couple others for low leverage innings. Throw the rest in the garbage can.
Do it NOW.
I read yesterday that Cab led all SS in defensive runs saved and was 3rd overall in the game. Volpe needs to come up understanding / focused on his glove comes 1st, his legs 2nd, contact 3rd.....and nothing else.Volpe recalled today. Will start at SS tonight. Caballero to the IL. How crazy is that?
