Pollard was incredibly fast running north and south.
Gee is more allusive and better after contact.
Dont remember much about Ferguson except he had a ton of heart. He probably played on the team that snapped the 27 game losing streak.

Pollard was a legend. If he didn’t have that knee injury he’d had those numbers most likely

True. I didn't like South Caldwell or that offense but I liked Pollard. The injury kept him from really competing at Presbyterian.

Pollard was better at running between the tackles and gee still hasn't had a 3000 yard season manly cause hibriten doesn't feature him like south did pollard.

Yep. I watched him run for 300 yds in the 1st half against Sun Valley. He didn't do much in the 2nd half and South ended up losing. He was fun to watch. Gee is fun to watch too he just has such limited carries. Outside of Shelby and East Duplin last year he rarely breaks 10 carries a game.

Freedom handled Hickory. Close in the first half, but Freedom pulled away in the second. Some things to clean up but overall looking pretty good

Watauga man handled Ac. Dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

My weekend is much better now.... I get too much joy from AC being knocked off their perch of beating up on the little people.

This one was a surprise. Thought it would be much closer with either team winning. Ive said it many times, Watauga is very hard to prepare for.

Looks like the middle of the conference is up for grabs. The Alexander/Freedom game this week is a make or break game now for both teams.

A good one for sure. Think Watauga showed they’re made for a big run. Being 3A this should be real nice.

I'm not sure I'm ready to say Watauga is set for a deep run. The 3A and 3AA divisions have an abundance of talent in and around the Charlotte area. Crest is there also. I can tell you I'm extremely proud and a bit surprised by the Watauga defense and how well they shut down the Cougar offense. I was expecting a 4 point swing one way or the other.

I feel like there are still some tougher tests ahead for Watauga. They have Freedom, St Stephens, and @ Hickory. Hickory always plays tough, especially at home. St. Stephens beat Watauga last year, in a game a lot of people didn't expect. Freedom....well it's Freedom, you never really count out the Patriots. AND, I didn't even mention McDowell, and strangely enough, the Titans are nothing but a huge mystery. I don't believe anyone knows their identity or how good they can be.

The NW3A/4A is gonna be a wild ride from here on out. You know I wish nothing but the best for every team. Hoping for no injures, praying for the Lord to reveal His faith through the greatest game ever given to us.

Watauga impressed me last night. Habich is one of the best coaches around. Very complex and diverse offense that is executed properly.

Well I don’t see them raising the award at NC State or wereever this December but they should be good for at least 3 rounds. In a game last night we’re AC was favored to win or at least keep close they got manhandled. I started to go to that game but something came over me to go to a tent meeting- so I asked the Lord to save me. Been struggling with that a while and asked Him several times so y’all please pray for me. I still hadn’t made a game yet cause of work or church event but there’s always FFN. Watauga looked good on film and highlights. If you play smart you can beat a lot of people. They definitely have the smarts.

I believe Watauga has this. Coming through the 90s you’d never thought they’d get like this. Bottom feeder team in NW4A for so many years so many times. McDowell is a mystery team. Used to be a team we dreaded playing. Big Mtn boys to just run all over ya. Give it time, right coach, more community support and participation they could end up running the tables. 5 years from now let’s see.

Thing about Watauga in the 90s is they had like 6 different coaches. They kept searching for Mauldin's replacement for 20 years. I think Habich is an expert at getting the most out of his players and he's done a great job of bringing out the talent from the boys of Boone better than anyone since the 70s.

reading the other forum, it looks like there were some player/coach issues for AC during this game. Will be interesting to see how the rest of the season pans out for the mighty Tville kitty kats!

Freedom and AC this Friday. We really need a win against a ranked team - not sure if AC is still ranked after getting slaughtered Friday, lol. This game should let us know where we are.

I think AC got really exposed Friday night b/c I never was a believer in their offense, they lost too much talent, they were just playing crappy non conference games and get West Caldwell as their first Conf. game and it skews the stats.

AC cannot throw the ball any team that can load the box and limit thier run game will be in good shape. Watauga is good offensively so I'm not sure how good ACs defense is.

AC running game concerns me. Freedom should score rather easily, but stopping AC could be an issue. Freedom must play mistake free football to win this game.

Okay... as the season progresses it looks like Watauga and Freedom are the two best in this conference. For the most part, everyone was pretty close on pre season picks. AC should now finish 3rd if they don't have a complete breakdown.

Counting down days.... Freedom vs Watauga

Watauga has a tough test in Marion tomorrow night. I'm more concerned with a trap game than a true tested opponent. McDowell is such a tough game because I don't think anyone knows which team will show up. The Titans are a lot better than most think.

In years past, way past, this would be a slaughter. If McDowell ever picks up a coach like Watauga has they can be a mtn area powerhouse again. Maybe Coach Beam will come back to coaching. He'd have these guys up to speed in a year or so. I dreaded watching EB play these guys in the 90s. EB was 8-3 in 96' and this was the very school that spoiled the playoff hopes. Of course this was when there was only 4 classifcations and getting into the playoffs was ROUGH!!. They tied for 2nd with Freedom(Crest took 1st as usual and won state) and had to draw straws to see who goes to the dance. Freedom won the draw but not the game. Even if EB won the draw they'd played Independence first round and got smacked. Freedom took that smacking for them and Indy wasn't even that good back then. They didn't start their rule til 2000 or 2001. You can clearly tell there is no more recruiting at Independence ha ha

Hickory in an easy one against South. Now...South does have a running back and if they can play just good enough defense they might can keep it respectable.

I remember those days well. Mcdowell, Freedom, East Burke.
I agree, McDowell needs the right Coach/AD and they would excel. I like someone like a Sam Mackey from Hibriten or someone similar in age/qualification. No doubt an older coach like Matt Beam or Mike Helms could turn it around but wouldn't stay for the long haul.

And Crest. Towards the tail end of the old NW4A, Watauga made some good runs, but McDowell ALWAYS just them out of the playoffs. There is something about Marion that makes me weary of this game. Maybe it's all the old trips that brought back losses to Boone.

I've said this before, but I believe Habich is one of the best in the business at getting the talent from what he's got. He game plans very well and he knows his boys. I feel that not only does he game plan well, he makes adjustments very well. The hickory game is a good example. I've personally never met him, but he's got an excellent team. Hypothetically speaking, next week should be one of the best games of the year IMO. So Go Pioneers tonight, and whoever is playing Freedom (lol jk). I feel that if you wanna be the best, you gotta go through Morganton this year. Next week, we'll see who shines the brightest.

Just curious where Freedom, AC, and Watauga will be seeded? WIll the be 3AA or 3A. My team(Erwin) should finish 9-1 so I am trying to get a slight idea at where we will be seeded. Thanks

How humble you are! Watauga could hit 100 if they wanted to on McDowell.

Congrats to Freedom Qb Jayden Birchfield. Broke single game TD record at Freedom with 7. This was a combination of run/pass.
