I had read that Paul Chryst was under consideration. But I think Braun is a good choice.

non-zero chance they finish the year with a better record than Rhule despite taking over a 1-11 team like 3 weeks before their opener

good stuff

I understand the rationale for keeping him. On the other hand, this hire has a little bit of a Zach Arnett feel to me of a hire based upon one good season coming off tumult.

Arnett didn't coach a single game before being named the full-time coach.

Teams almost always regret hiring the interim. But I just don't see how they could find a better candidate.

The guy can coach and they’ll probably end up on the hook for Fitz’s contract. Can there be any downside to giving this guy a shot? It’s not like he has any chance of taking them to any depths that Fitz didn’t.

Never been a head coach
Never coached any position at the power 5 level

likely bowl bound and plus 4 wins as compared to the team he took over at the last minute

Embarrassing how much better their team has become throughout the year when compared to what our 9 million dollar man has achieved
LOL, the crying by what I assume are grown men in this thread is comical.

which one? they've played 4

their top 2 guys have been sacked 40x this year

our records would probably be the same if we switched QB rooms

probably would be much better if we switched OCs, though
Our OC's arent the ones leading the nation in turnovers...

But it's a lesson to remember that the next great coaches aren't going to come up in one of those 5 second research/Google searches. This guy hadn't coached in the P5 before (I think) and he's never been a head coach. Just a DC from NDSU. But if you're good, you're good. The trouble is most of the big time fan bases expect a wow hire and just won't be satisfied with an unknown. Glad this guy was able to get his foot in the door.

The good news for him is Northwestern’s fans don’t expect much.

Will be looked at as one of the best hires by a big ten team of the current era. He will of course be plucked away by a bigger school, likely a blue blood.

He’s done a phenomenal job and I predict he will continue to do so.

A lot of people on here dragging Northwestern for the hire but I see a guy getting paid over 8 million less than our coach and he is currently got the same results as our team. He also took over the reins with only 3 weeks before the season. More than likely Northwestern will be bowl eligible this week. I can't even say for sure we make a bowl outright. We may get the 5-7 exemption but that is no guarantee.

Maybe, don't know how he'll do longterm. Northwestern was an up and done program under Fitzgerald. They'd make the Big Ten championship then go 3-9 then make the big ten championship than go 3-9. I'll wait until this guy has a little more success before acting like he wis some coaching savant.

I agree. However it isn't like the top coaches are banging on Northwestern's door for the opportunity to coach there. It is a stepping stone job.

How in the hell does Northwestern have a better record than us in a year where they fired their coach?
