Heels did trot over to Patton for a while a few years back, but I think he found he could come home again and be a lifer as a Patriot after all.

Coach Harrison was great with quarterbacks. Was a good fit with Mike Helms and other pass oriented teams. Ended up at Draughn for a couple of seasons but was too offensive minded for that place.

South Caldwell took another beating last night. Going to take a while to turn things around.

South has struggled so far and you are correct it is going to take a while. Obviously starting out with KM, ER, and Hibriten weeks 1-3 doesn't do any team any favors. Especially not a team trying to rebuild something. Hopefully they can put together some more solid games and get better as the season goes. We knew it would take some time since I've heard they really didn't lift weights last year...wow. You can tell. Hoping for better things in the future for them but don't see it happening next Friday.

They musta lost an entire team 2 years ago. Only Goins and maybe 2 others returned last year. Weak Jv and middle school behind that bunch id imagine. People say Butch left Butch left, but even if he woulda stayed he would have struggled not having much to work with.

The talent level at South is always going to be up and down. Good groups and down groups. They are never going to be like a Hibriten or Freedom and roll in talent year in and out. You just have to hope for 6-5 years on the down years in my opinion to keep the momentum going. The 10th and 9th grade groups are the strength at South. If they kept their 10th graders down then they could go 9-1 or 10-0 but have around 9 Sophomores up because they have to. Their JV team got a nice win vs. East Rutherford after playing KM tight. Hopefully that means that they will start to turn in around in a few years. Can't get crazy and think it would turn around in 1 year. Just have to get kids to buy in and I think they will.

I wander why we (RS central) do not have a jv game listed against south? It's listed as an open I just thought that south didn't have a jv team

Saw North Lincoln lost to Foard. I'm hoping this was a poop game and they pull it together. They have good players and are better than last year.

A good QB and one WR will not beat most teams on their schedule. They did not look that strong in the Burns jamboree as earlier posted,IMO.

Foard is doing much better than most, including me thought. I think this is their best team in years, including when Harper was there.

What's this weeks picks guys??

AC and North Lincoln- If Norths D can hold up and QB can connect with his Soph all star wideout this game should be interesting. Ellimate that and it's gonna be a slop job for the Knights. Butch and crew are good but haven't faced anyone brutal yet. AC by 2 TDs.

Freedom and Patton- on paper, all Freedom. But don't overlook Patton. Take Hibriten out of the equation and they would cruise through their conf with little issue. Good running game for Patton that the Freedom D better be on point. Freedom by 21 or less.

Hickory and Huss- a classic conf matchup from the 80s. Hickory is getting tougher but won't be enough. Huss by 21.

McDowell and Mitchell- I'd say Mitchell...yeah I'd say Mitchell.

Watauga and Wilkes Central- if you got a hot date or a church revival to go to, go to it. Cars will be pulling out after the half n half announcement. I've never won one of those.

South Caldwell and Hibriten- coach Lewis, have mercy, keep the starters in the stands, you won't need em' This is usually a long hype post by itself in years past. Give it a couple years, may be again, but this is not the year. Reloaded with big linemen and decent running backs for 8 or 9 years til Dickerson and crew graduated, what the heck happened to South? SMH.

Saint and Maiden- ( crap eating grin on my face) if anybody is up for getting with their fishing buddies this would be a night to do it. Not only is this game in the bag for Maiden but ALL NW4A/3A is too predictible and not worth the drive unless you are a parent and have kids playing or your just a diehard with nothing to do.

West Caldwell and Ashe- one that MIGHT could go either way if West has a hard time with the air attack. If not, Ashe will get pimp slapped. If Ashe can get a D, they may be a conf contender for the Mtn area. West by 7.

Haven't heard anything lately... but you probably heard the doctors found something on the brain scan (growth), addressing in a few weeks once recovered from the injury.

lol Burkeforreal. Looks spot on

Reason I'm spot on is nobody post bout a game that is too predicable and one team is gonna win big against another as if it's Alabama vs Limestone or Catawba or something LOL.

I was looking over all my games and my main thoughts are Ashe and North Lincoln. Both are well coached this year, both are NOT NW4a/3A I'm well aware lol. North has improved, gotta good energy going there but they better get a freshman QB and start training him or an 8th grader. All QBs for North are seniors. One is solid and may could start for any team in area except Watauga and Freedom an prob couple other ones. A wide out that impresses and not a bad running back. AC can shut these guys down if the rest of the supporting cast for North don't get it together. Could be an upset tonight but doubt it.

Ashe carries a lot of ancestry for me there and have a great coach and good offensive scheme as long as they got the boys to get separation and make it happen in the air attack. Didn't phase Hibriten none obviously. Ashe CAN win if they can contain Dula just enough and score on every possession.

Other than that fans, don't waste ur time tonight. If u just HAVE to see a game, go to Charlotte. Spend time with ur love ones yall. God only gives you so long on this earth.

For any believers out there, pray for me, I'm going through some things. Thank you in advance.

Forgot bout Boyce. I hadn't been to a game yet cause if all these nights I'm working. I don't think Ashe has a defense from the looks of it. If they ever establish one they'd be one of the better teams around. I know if Watauga had a D last year they'd a gave a lot of city slicker teams fits.

You can say that for any team though. If any team has a great defense they would be one of the better teams around. The problem with Ashe is not only defense but having an offensive line that provides adequate time for the QB.

Oh I feel ya man. Watauga offense stunned me last year at the Hibriten game. If the defense wasn't so smelly they'd a took that game. Hibritens D this year is lights out and should be able to limit South Point and Shelby should they meet in playoffs. Will look even better next year which is why I'd suggest getting Mallard Creek, Vance, or maybe Mount Tabor up that way for a non conf rumble next year. Remember Butler 2010?? Not a seat left in the house. Big money.

Now with Ashe, they had some big linemen a few years ago and so on. Obviously had nothing to stop Hibritens D. Rest of their conf play they should be ok if they can stay on their blocks.

I agree. I don't see them beating any of the Wilkes Couty teams though. All 4 Wilkes County teams have really improved in recent years.

Recap of last night:

North Lincoln is tough and gave AC enough to handle. Expect that coaches poll to change ha ha

Freedom and Patton - expected this. Patton is tough but Freedom prevails.

Surprise of the night- Hickory and Huss. Wow. Expect Freedom and Hickory to be the future battle of the crown. Not this year but next and on.

Watauga and Wilkes- solid offense, pourous defense, expected win but 2nd round and done with that kinda D

South and Hibriten-......anyway next game, South will get better.

West and Ashe- expected this

After 4 weeks this is how I see the conference playing out. Alexander was the pre-season coaches poll pick but I just dont see it right now. They are 4-0 but have had some struggles. O-line has struggled early and the pass defense has not looked good either. North lincoln torched the secondary last night. Maybe as the season goes on and they get some players back from injury they improve but for now this is how I see it.

North Lincoln has a good Qb and some receivers that made some nice catches last night. Qb faked the pass into the flats all nite and Ac's corners bit every time it seemed like and left a wideout open down the side lines. Even when they were covered they made some nice catches. Ac tried their best to lose the game. North will win some games this year. I was surprised I didnt expect to see them throw it 33 times. For ac getting Godfrey back healthy after missing the last 2 1/2 games should help along with some lineman who have been out.[/QUOTE]

WC has a good offense. They run the spread with good athletes. They were without their best WR, starting QB and best lineman. Watauga is good and will contend for the conference title.

If North does anything it'd have to be this year. Once that QB steps off with the cap n gown expect that wideout to move on and the JVs are obviously horrible if AC beat them down that bad or ACs JV are just that good and may win their conference. I mean I hope I'm wrong, tell me more in that NL post I made in the 2A section.

Cannot in no way shape or form see AC hanging with Freedom and Watauga. If you thought North burned em' in the air attack, whew Freedom and Watauga game is not gonna look pretty. Someone mentioned they have some injuries so once they come back they may do ok. That'd be good for their sakes.

I'm REALLY looking fwd to Freedom and Watauga matchup. Expect a good gate sale with non fans (people that don't have sons playing anywhere) to show up at that one. Conf crown battles are always the best.
Expecting AC to maybe hang on at 3rd and squeak by Hickory. Even that's a head scratcher.

Im fairly confident Ac will lose to freedom. Ac has never faired well when playing freedom. Even when freedom is down they tend to lose. Godfrey will be back after the bye week. It will be the first time all season Godfrey and Weiss will be in the back field together. Scoring points shouldnt be a problem. They have some sophomores starting on the line. They should get better and better as the season goes on. The run defense has been good up to this point. The pass defense has been the problem. They have the athletes in the secondary. Its not like they have been getting ran by they just seem confused at times. They are capable of beating any team in the conference. The game between them and watauga should be good. It normally is. For now id say they finish 4th but there is still a lot of games to be played

I don't see any way that AC finishes 4th. I do think they finish 3rd after Freedom and Watauga but the conference is so weak after that. I know that Hickory got a big win but I can't jump on the bandwagon after 1 win. I think AC will outscore them. After that you're looking at West, South, Saint...none of them are beating them. So I see a 3rd place finish for them.

How are the JV teams in the conference looking? I keep up with South so I know they are 2-1 with a big win over Hibriten last week. The future looks pretty good for them, it's just the present that isn't so hot lol. Anyone else have anything going for them on JV?

Hickory JVs are 0-2 and as the last three years are mainly 9th graders. They have improved from the first game and I look for them to finish around .500.

that's typical for a Butch Carter team.... strong jv teams that fall off at the varsity level.

the only people that care about JV Football are the players and their parents.......oh and apparently Alexander County b/c being undefeated in JVs is like kissing your sister....and AC knows a lot about that.
