Well got back from Carolinas one point disappointment to look at some scores an see that Hickory got whooped an South Caldwell still hasn't been scored on yet but why ONLY 14 POINTS against West??

What else went down in the conf tonight??

Watauga's offense is hitting on all cylinders, cruising to a 49 27 win @ ashe. It was 28 7 in the first quarter and watauga doesn't run the score up on anyone so some starters were pulled.

ashe county not a good football team see what they do against freedom south caldwell hibriten

referees took control of that game south would get something going a flag would come out west is a lot better team they will get better they are young west and hibriten will be a good game next week

I never said Ashe was a good team. But it's always nice to dominate teams wire to wire, especially if a team has minimized their mental mistakes. The real test will be AC Reynolds in a few weeks. I'm not too worried about Hibriten or South Caldwell at this point, it's week 2 of a 12 week season.

Ashe county's time to shine was last year. After that QB left an few other players I figured this would be a down year for Ashe. JV team of last year didn't do so hot either if I'm not mistaken. Freedom messed Draughn up last night, ouch!!

So u think West could finish 3rd in their conf behind East an Lincolnton?

west could very well finish 3rd 2 starters was out last night a running back and a DE and starting qb titus tucker only played 3 series last night b4 getting hurt, it was a 7-0 game with 3 min left in the 4th quarter.

Maybe next year West will break the snap with South

Bringing back the West Caldwell of the 80s. I can't see them doing anything against East Lincoln or Lincolnton but progress is good

Why is everybody so high on maiden i guess everybody forgot that west beat them at maiden last year.

west returns almost everybody from last year and my opinion west qb is better then madens.

South gave up 160 or so rushing against Bandys. 139 against West. 0 passing yards given up through 2 games. Bandys is not going to throw for much all year. West struggled on offense in general and AC won't look to pass too much either. But they have handled both teams defensively pretty easily.

Doss, is Watuaga getting a spread mentality? Not giving up too much on defense and outscoring you on O. Their numbers jump out at you on paper. Obviously everyone wants to score 100 and pitch a shutout but hey if you score more then you win. They are scoring some points through the first two games. All I heard was last year was their year if they could make a run but looks like some jv's have stepped in for the players they lost.

I don't know man, AC has a 2 headed running attack that's pretty solid, but their team wears out really fast. They have some passing plays, but mental mistakes hurt them.

Watauga is more of a hybrid motion offense. They run a lot of different sets. Suggs has 2, 200 yard rushing games. Scored 4 TDs against AC, 1 or 2 against Ashe. Against AC, Watauga's top 2 receivers were beat up so they didn't play much. As for the score, Watauga has never been known for running up the score. They'll pull the starters at half time before beating a team up too bad. Sideline to sideline, this is the fastest defense I've seen since Eric Breitenstein was part of that nasty 07-08 defense. They're not huge, but they're feisty. The safety is a QB, and he's pretty good at both positions and a real leader for just a Junior. Overall, Watauga's team is much more balanced than last year, they can sneak up on you from a lot of different angles. IF, and only IF, conference games get into a shootout, I give Watauga the advantage because of it's offensive versatility. Habich is an excellent coach on gaining that perfect effort. Mental mistakes are such a huge issue at the high school level so that's kinda where he finds his niche.

I'm really impressed with St Stephens. I know they've only won two games, but at least those kids are fighting hard this year.
