One correction - NU won the 1949 Rose Bowl, not 1948. And no, I did not attend, since I was age 5 and knew nothing about either school or team.

Not quite. Nebraska won 5 national titles between 1970 to 1997 and finished in Top 20/25 every year and finished in the Top 10 in 21 of those years. Wisconsin has to win a national championship and be a perennial Top 10-15 team nationally before they can be the new Nebraska. Wisconsin's good, but not as great as Nebraska was in the closing decades of the 20 century.
