I'll start:

We are a beaten fanbase and I never want to predict a victory, but just not sure how NW is any better. Their D is very slow and they lost their best secondary member to ND. I think they are going to have trouble keeping up with our WR's and accounting for the backs out of the backfield. I really think we are going to pound it with the backs and then the WR's are going to be wide open. If we handle them up front, and stop their run game it is going to get ugly in a hurry as I just don't think their D has the horses.

The defensive line is the biggest question for Northwestern's defense from what I have read or heard.

From The Athletic, unlike Nebraska, the Wildcats don't have full-time coverage from them.

Northwestern has a ton of talent, depth and experience in the secondary, even after losing Brandon Joseph to Notre Dame. Three cornerbacks with extensive starting experience are A.J. Hampton (fifth year), Cam Mitchell (fourth year) and Rod Heard II (fourth year), and fifth-year transfer Jeremiah Lewis comes over from Duke. Fitzgerald loves what he has in the future in second-year players Ore Adeyi and Theran Johnson.

At safety, fourth-year man Coco Azema started last season and will be joined by a cast that includes Jaheem Joseph (third year), Garner Wallace second year), Tyler Haskins (fourth year) and Trent Carrington, a sixth-year player who had come over from Presbyterian before last season. Haskins and Carrington played mostly on special teams last season.

This game will come down to game adjustments, how much do we really know what Northwestern will roll out for this game offensively. It is important to remember Northwestern has a bye week after their game with us. I expect we will see an special offensive game plan by Northwestern just for this a game plan.

Mike Bajakian new offensive coordinator for Northwestern
Last season, Bajakian was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Boston College. From 2015-18, he served as the quarterbacks coach with the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He’s also served in similar roles at Cincinnati, Tennessee and Central Michigan.

Bajakian replaces former offensive coordinator Mick McCall, who was not retained following the 2019 season. The Wildcats had the worst Power Five passing attack in college football and ranked 116th in scoring, averaging 16.3 points per game.

I think we have coaches with higher football IQ's who can make adjustments as the game progresses, something we didn't have with the previous staff imo.

I see a tight game but I also see a win for Nebraska but it won't be a cake walk.

Year 3 as OC for Mike Bajakian. Year 2 for DC Jim O'Neal, who replaced Fitz's long trusted DC.

17th season for Fitz at his alma mater.

last year in week 0, it was 6-2 NU when the anchor missed a wide open receiver in the end zone. settled for FG to make it 9-2.

with under a minute left in the half and the game tied 9-9, blackshirts force and recover fumble at midfield. the next play the anchor coughed it up and ill returned it for a touchdown.

the next time we scored points, it was 30-9.

CT makes the easy plays (or just avoids the inconceivably stupid ones) we will win going away a lot more than just this week.

Special teams wasn't solid at Illinois either. It cost Nebraska dearly at MSU and on Black Friday.

Bill Busch's debut as ST coordinator. Dividends in WK 0?

I don’t give a $&it what happened Last year.. NW has always given us their best shot and I might add they give Ioway all they can handle too..

It will be a tighter game being the first game of the year for both .I just think Nebraska will take control in the second half.. Depending on turnovers one team can make it closer or the other will take advantage and win comfortably..
You don’t care about last year but then talk about the past with these guys? Which is it? Past or present?

Not answering for scarlet here, but I think he meant last year NU blew NW out.

Typically, NU v. NW games have been very tight.

Scarlet's been around long enough to talk about whatever era he wants to without seeking your approval.

Their secondary is not good. Acting like they have depth and experience is comical and their best player from the secondary bounced. Overall their D is slow as ****. There is opportunity for us to get to the edges.

I want to come out firing against every single B10 opponent. Only 2 teams in the B10 have been effective throwing the ball. Let these ball control chumps play catch up and use athletes.

So much this

why people think we need to play plodding B1G football to win is beyond me

just take care of the ball and the rest takes care of itself

nobody on our side has the horses to keep up

McNeese State: Never forget.

We’re a perennial losing program right now, and we can never look past any opponent.
Gotta go earn some W’s and resurrect this thing.

I agree we’d love to see the cleanest game, but reality is there could be some early sloppiness. Northwestern typically plays well disciplined. Can’t dig ourselves a hole.

AJ Hampton, CB Sr.

5-11, 180. 44 tackles, 2 INT, 21 broken up passes, 2 TFL, 1 forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries with one for a touchdown in four seasons

Picked Northwestern over Nebraska.
Pat Fitzgerald has recruited well at times, and their secondary has developed high skill players with Newsome in NFL and Joseph now at Notre Dame.

The Wildcats have a young secondary. Awful in odd years the past four seasons. Like Nebraska, Northwestern will likely show improvements in 2022.

all this discussion is cute, but we're talking about a 2 TD+ spread

fitz is just a classic example of a b1g coach who's worshipped for winning zilch

northwestern sucks out loud, we should win by 100 but will have to settle for winning by 50

Newsome in the NFL and Joseph at Notre Dame won't be much help Saturday.

The guy had zero picks last year and 40 tackles. Congrats on just picking a random starting corner trying to justify they have a good secondary. You are not very good at this. NW has a secondary that returns 1 interception from last year. Outside of Hampton they are all basically new or unproven. But yeah, a stud secondary...

What do you expect a player from Northwestern to say. I doubt they are going to say they have no chance and will lose, but comments like this will charge up the fan base. People criticize the BIG but it is a conference where any team regardless of record can win each week even against the best of the conference.

I know Ohio State has been all out to beat Rutgers every year from 2017-2021, but OSU squeaked by.

Northwestern isn't playing Ohio State on Saturday. Last year is over.

The difference between Nebraska vs. Northwestern isn't that stark.

If played on paper, then Northwestern doesn't need to show up. But, didn't same apply at Illinois last year, for Nebraska?

I expect Nebraska to win. But, Northwestern has won in this spot before, in the 2018 opener, for example.

last year is over but we should care about what doormat nw did in the 2018 opener?

whatever, iowa fan. they suck and we should win by 100 tomorrow.

3rd teamers should be in for the opening kickoff of the 2nd half.

i'm surprised nw even made the trip. excited to embarrass loser fitz in front of 60+ of his family and friends.

Love the under..
I think we cover that number by ourselves

nw stinks - they have literally never seen someone run like Trey Palmer

should have 40+ by halftime & I hope Whipple is still chucking bombs up 5+ TDs well into the 4th quarter

northwestern could play with 15 guys on defense and still not stand a chance
kong. I would just as soon see NU face some adversity tomorrow. (Of course, I'd like a big NU win).

The sooner the better this "new" program begins to answer lingering questions.

Will NU show a better physical push in the OL, or will it be like it has been?

Will NU's QB's take better care of the ball than the last 4 years, or is gonna be the same as we've had?

Does it appear the added emphasis on Special Teams is paying off?

Does NU have a place kicker who can hit that 40 yarder that matters?

Does NU look like they have enough big bodies on the DL to stand up to a real power team?

We may as well start finding some of those answers tomorrow.

Not answering questions prior to OU does NU little good.
