I'll start:

We are a beaten fanbase and I never want to predict a victory, but just not sure how NW is any better. Their D is very slow and they lost their best secondary member to ND. I think they are going to have trouble keeping up with our WR's and accounting for the backs out of the backfield. I really think we are going to pound it with the backs and then the WR's are going to be wide open. If we handle them up front, and stop their run game it is going to get ugly in a hurry as I just don't think their D has the horses.

My fear is that they lean on us with the running game, even if not that successful, which shortens the game. We then get in that panic mode, where we think we should be killing them, but aren't yet. Then as soon as something bad happens, it's like here we go again and we have an ugly down to the wire game, which we are masters of losing.

What I think happens. We start a little slow on offense, but the D plays well. Then we get a little rhythm and win fairly comfortably.

I don't think Whipple/Mickey are going to or get into panic mode.. Just my opinion though

frost has always been a checkers player in the power 5 game of chess. fitz will be playing chess again on saturday. if frost allows his oc to play chess we might just have a nice outcome.

Until this program can truly turn the corner we will be left with excuses in the wake. Last year it was Illinois changed the front so they had to throw out half the plays. Good grief, high school teams do that and you should have prepared for every and anything.

Decision making has been in short supply both in the booth and on the field. Until that changes, we will still be finding ways to beat ourselves.

Finally, and this one bugs me to no end. Why would we ever say "we should beat these guys"? It is usually because we have beaten them in the past, like Purdue who has been a traditional door mat, there is a mindset that "we should beat them because they are always bad." Well, guess what, until proven otherwise, we are worse. Can you imagine other teams penciling in a win against Nebraska because, "they have been bad for several years." Prove you are more physical, more conditioned, better coached, quicker to the ball, more disciplined, and a better "team" rather than individuals. It is time, way past time.

If these games were played in paper and recruiting rankings, the good guys would probably be avg 8-10 wins a year.

However crotch rot has been the great equalizer to flip that script.

With A$$2 mouth and his butt-buddy Weekend at Bernie's no longer tainting the program; it should be better by default.

If crotch rot let's Mr Whipple do his job, I feel ok about this one. Much better than my chances of scoring a hot West Omaha ***** 6 or higher on the rivals board standards. I'll happily smash a 3 if they get the W.

I'm smashing a 3, either way.

Listening to Trev Alberts and he even mentioned that this day in age in this conference you do not take one team for granted and expect 4Q games..

This game will come down to game adjustments, how much do we really know what Northwestern will roll out for this game offensively. It is important to remember Northwestern has a bye week after their game with us. I expect we will see an special offensive game plan by Northwestern just for this a game plan.

Mike Bajakian new offensive coordinator for Northwestern
Last season, Bajakian was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Boston College. From 2015-18, he served as the quarterbacks coach with the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He’s also served in similar roles at Cincinnati, Tennessee and Central Michigan.

Bajakian replaces former offensive coordinator Mick McCall, who was not retained following the 2019 season. The Wildcats had the worst Power Five passing attack in college football and ranked 116th in scoring, averaging 16.3 points per game.

I think we have coaches with higher football IQ's who can make adjustments as the game progresses, something we didn't have with the previous staff imo.

I see a tight game but I also see a win for Nebraska but it won't be a cake walk.

last year in week 0, it was 6-2 NU when the anchor missed a wide open receiver in the end zone. settled for FG to make it 9-2.

with under a minute left in the half and the game tied 9-9, blackshirts force and recover fumble at midfield. the next play the anchor coughed it up and ill returned it for a touchdown.

the next time we scored points, it was 30-9.

CT makes the easy plays (or just avoids the inconceivably stupid ones) we will win going away a lot more than just this week.

I don’t give a $&it what happened Last year.. NW has always given us their best shot and I might add they give Ioway all they can handle too..

It will be a tighter game being the first game of the year for both .I just think Nebraska will take control in the second half.. Depending on turnovers one team can make it closer or the other will take advantage and win comfortably..

Pick the timing and type of play that causes husker fans to collectively sigh and say, “here we go again”, I’m torn, for me it’s between these two :

First Nebraska kickoff is shanked.

or

First punt received by Nebraska is muffed.

Damn, these past five seasons have ruined my enjoyment of the game.

I went with the unders as well. There will be some early growing pains with a new OC and new QB. New offenses being installed don’t usually hit the ground running. NW isn’t going to be lighting things on fire offensively either. They know it and will shorten the game like you two have noted.

I agree almost entirely with this Tru. Back "in the day" I could look at the schedule and figure NU had 1 or 2 games that could be trouble, other than that NU would overwhelm the others.

One thing (among many) that makes me a bit concerned is Whip likes to play calls from the sidelines, and has a long history of doing it pretty well. Now with Frost roaming the sidelines, and looking for something to do, I wonder how that works.

I'm not sure who will be in the booth helping the offense. Won't happen but I'd just as soon see Frost up there, since he's supposed to be the CEO and all. Frost has shown, at times, that he can call a play that works well, just not play after play.

If Frost wants to have Whip run a certain play, I would much rather just have Frost tell the booth and then have the booth send it down to Whip. Last thing I wanna see is Frost coming in and out of the picture with Whipple and trying to call too many plays.

The game needs to be so much bigger than Frost's ego. He could get major props after the game from Whip and others by saying HCSF sent down this or that play. That way, Scott gets his ego boost, Whip "looks" to be the play caller, and less traffic around Whip.

Thompson's sideline conversations need to be with Whipple, not Frost. Since Whip was hired as the OC, I'd like to see him coordinate the offense, get input from above, even through Frost and see the NU offense resemble a functional unit.

You should head south/east. I'm confident you could "smash" a South Omaha rivals 4 *****.

They will lean on us with their running game unless we stop it, or we take the lead. If we win the toss, we should take the ball.

Be one of those games where most of 1st quarter is spent by each team seeing what the other is trying. Can’t practice speed, so maybe Palmer or Brown get loose on a PR. NW might try to take advantage of over aggressive pass rush with those cut back runs from the RB. They might have a AA OT, but see Chins rotating guys on him to wear him down. Giving NW ‘D’ too much credit, as someone mentioned their best player on that side last year is a Golden Domer now. Thinking Casey will show us what YAC will look like by testing the middle of the field and letting his players make plays . Is that you RJ? No mistakes by the specialists is worth at least 6 points for the good guys. GBR!

P.S it was 60-3!
Damn fact checkers. LOL

In the PC yesterday, Scott said he "may have exaggerated."

Thought I'd give it a go! (work with me here). LOL

Teams can beat our ***, but they can't take away that era.

We have lost against NW on even number years in the frost campaign. The first series on offense will dictate how we go, gota score at least 24 to win.
