Northwestern bids a final farewell to the lakeside Martin Stadium and heads to Lincoln to play Nebraska this week.

The Cornhuskers have respectable wins against Maryland and MSU and close loss to Michigan. But last week were kept out of the endzone by Minnesota. The O-line allowed 9 sacks. Rushing was a mere 36 net yards. The defense was more credible, but the Gophers scored 24.

Both NU and UNL are 5-2, but if the Cats continue to click as they generally have since the Oregon game (excepting a notable mess in the 4th quarter against Purdue), they should win, but in a low-scoring affair.

I wish the Huskers had not been humiliated by the Gophers last Friday. They will get the ball out of Raiola’s hand more quickly this week. I think their wide receivers will work crossing routes to advantage and break some long runs after catch.

We are 11th in the nation in scoring defense, 39th in rushing offense, and 5th in time of possession. That tells me we can keep them out of the end zone while methodically move down the field, but it doesn’t say high scoring to me.

Nebraska is 85th in rushing defense and 104th in rushing offense. I think that gives us a fighting chance.

The NU vs NU match-up will continue the tradition of tight outcomes but I need to stay on the side of pessimism for superstition's sake.

Too hard to say. Is Neb on their characteristic second half of season drop off, and we’re on our characteristic improvement? Neb beat now-ranked Cincy and narrowly lost to Mich. But then they were awwwful against Minn. That game is more recent but also more of an anomaly compared to their season. We will need to have everything clicking especially Stone not turning it over, to win a close one.

I'm thinking one-sided higher scoring game. I bet the Cats are as well.

These two teams almost always have close games. I think this one will come down to the last minute, and maybe the last play. Whoever makes the critical play(s) in the last minute will win. I hope it is our defense on the field at the end because I trust them a lot more to make the critical plays than the offense.

I am genuinely unsure on this one, I think there are a wide range out outcomes. I think we could absolutely go in there and look great and have a solid, if not overwhelming, win and we could also get stoned on offense and get rolled.

Given the history for the “battle for NU” in the Big Ten era, I’ll have to say

Sure wasn’t last week; that’s why I think they will change their approach and script some quick throws early and keep at it until the Cats are able to adjust. They have some receivers who are pretty dangerous.
