The Omaha World Herald was something that I used to read every Sunday for almost 3 decades. I still read articles they publish, but its not like I have it mailed to Montana. It's also not important enough for me to buy an online subscription. I have noticed over the last month, that the articles that I do see that I have interest in, all list the University of Nebraska as NU...... Nebraska University? Nope, my eyes can't do it. What is the correct acronym? 20 years ago, UNL seemed like the most accepted term, but did that go away with UNK? Thee UN? Change it to Nebraska State University or NSU? Help me out here........ NU is incorrect, but maybe it is just me!

Nebraska has been called NU for years in the media and it was even on our helmets at one time. Calling us NU is nothing new. It's just like calling Colorado CU, Kansas KU, and Oklahoma OU.

This. As far as I am aware it goes back to the 70s. The university used UNL on its stuff then too

It is important to keep using NU. I live in another Big 10 state and my buddy who played at Northwestern insists they are the only NU in the BIG. My response that when Northwestern wins 5 national championships then they can claim NU is getting a little lame. Time to restore the order!

It's NU and always has been for the athletic side of the University.

I mean the Fight song is literally called Dear old Nebraska U. And that was written in 1924.

UNL is only used by the academic side.

For sports, it's proper to refer to Nebraska as NU. For academics, UNL. It's part of our tradition.

Yep. I first found it in a 1925 game program and many more later.
