Do we know if Slater and/or Newsome will be on campus for this? Does CAA have their own pro day just for their clients?

Just wanted to share a conversation with Colin Cowherd from Foxsports, who said the scouts LOVE Slater because only he and Vera-Tucker from USC can play both guard and tackle, as well as, on both right and left side. He said Slater's films are "flawless", whereas Sewell is a dominating physical specimen but has "holes" on film. I also asked about Newsome, and he feels the scouts are rating him as the 6th best CB in the draft and likely a second rounder. He said NU players are smarter because the D is often disguised and shifts after the snap, similar to most NFL defenses. He said that's why Justin Fields had a tough time against us. Also mentioned that scouts like NU corners because Fitz and Hank demand the corners to provide run support. I personally would love to see both in the first round. I am no expert. Just wanted to share this with our fans. Thanks!

I've seen others rate Newsome as high as 4th best CB in the draft. If he is anywhere between 4-6 best CB in the draft, he will likely be a late first round pick. In most drafts, the top 4-6 CBs are going in the first round as it is considered a premium position right up there with QB, OL and DL. The pro day will be big for him.

His stock certainly appears to be on the rise.

Could be wrong, but I think pro days for players already projected as high as Newsome are a very small part of the equation. Like splitting hairs small. Maybe he moves from 5 to 4 in the CB rankings or from 4 to 5 if somebody else in the same range of his ranking has a surprisingly strong or bad one. But as long as he doesn't blow it and thus raise skepticism about a lack of preparation, he's probably going to be drafted off his film (excellent), his interviews (strong), the League intelligence on him (distinguished) and his injury history (not good-not bad). I expect his pro day will do nothing more than show consistency with where teams already have him on their draft boards.

I believe pro days are important for guys looking to catch somebody's attention so they can get on the UDFA radar or move from there to a late round draft choice. We've had a few of those over the years.

True but I think this year is different given the absence of the combine.

For Newsome, Pro Day may be the difference between the first round and second round. If he he puts up a 4.4 forty with other good numbers, he'll be a first round lock. 4.5 or worse will hurt him.

For those on the UFA cut line, Fisher, Gallagher, RCB, and others will also need to put up good numbers.

He would be fine with a mid 4.5 forty. A 4.4 might make him a lock for round one.

Pauline should be embarrassed to attach his name to that Slater evaluation. That's just wrong.

I would love to see Brown drafted (172 would put him in the fifth round), but doubt it'll happen unless he puts up monster numbers at the Pro Day. This hack also got both Slater and Newsome wrong, 96 would put Newsome at the end of the third round.

Also missing RCB, who could make it onto an NFL roster.

Here's today's mock draft from The Athletic......

12. San Francisco 49ers: Rashawn Slater, G/OT, Northwestern
With Nick Bosa coming off an ACL tear and Dee Ford’s future murky because of a back issue, the 49ers are badly in need of a defensive end. But taking one here might be a reach. Slater is the best player on the board at this point. The 49ers could insert him immediately at right guard, a problem area in recent seasons, with an eye on him moving to tackle in the future. A plausible alternate scenario: Another team looking for a tackle trades up to get Slater, the 49ers trade back, draft a defensive end and add several more picks in the process. — Matt Barrows

26. Cleveland Browns: Greg Newsome, CB, Northwestern
The Browns need help at every level of the defense. That means they have options, even at No. 26, and at this all-too-early stage, it’s hard to imagine Newsome not being near the top of their list. Even if Greedy Williams comes back from the nerve issue in his shoulder that forced him to miss all of last season, the Browns are still in need of cornerback help. Newsome, who’s just 21, is rangy and has the tools to eventually become a top-tier player alongside Denzel Ward, who’s in line for a big extension as the Browns go through a defensive remake in the coming months. —

Thanks for sharing. Was that an on the air inquiry or do you have a personal or professional relationship with Colin?

Personal conversation. If there is something in particular that people would like to explore, I'm happy to reach out and update the group.
